My dd had he 1st birthday yesterday. she has been ill with a cough and cold since midweek last week. Yesterday she realy started to deteriorate ( sorry spelling!)

She has vomited constantly for the last 2 days and hasnt eted anything since thurs morning when she had 2 spoons of weetabix.

The reason im even more worried now is that she seems to have become very drowsy and unresponsive

Her temp is only slightly up 37.5.

My friend and my mum recon we should take her up to the hospital but dont realy want to spend all night in a&e just to be told she has a bug and im overreacting.

Please tell me what you would do.
Thank you mums

the key words are drowsy and unresponsive

get to A&E

MyDingaling · 23/03/2010 22:16

Just go NOW

waitingforbedtime · 23/03/2010 22:16

take her to a+e - she sounds very ill (sorry) and so what if you look over anxious - who cares? 12hrs without wet nappy is long enough to be quite seriously dehydrated.

bigstripeytiger · 23/03/2010 22:16

Just go to A+E, you dont need to phone.

waitingforbedtime · 23/03/2010 22:17

Are you serious? She's had no wet nappies in over 24hrs - go to a+e now.

winnybella · 23/03/2010 22:18

No wet nappies for one night and day???

Don't ring the hospital, just GO!

She is dehydrated and needs to be seen.

teaandcakeplease · 23/03/2010 22:19

I was told by NHS direct if nappy dry for over 8 hours they're dehydrated and need medical attention. As another poster has said, are you giving dioralyte today? Did GP prescribe it yesterday?

I seriously think you need to call NHS direct, they can make sure A&E are expecting you I believe, if they refer you there. So it's streamlined to be quicker. I could be wrong here, but I think they can

Just do it lovely. Stop worrying about people saying there's nothing wrong. Something is wrong. Please?

champagneanddaisys · 23/03/2010 22:20

ok were going now ... il let you know what happens. thanks for all the advice. wish us luck

Look. It's one thing if the kid has a noro, but still manages to keep some liquid down and produce wet nappies. Then you just go to the doctor.

The child who had no wet nappies for over 24 hours and not many before, as you said, is seriously dehydrated.

This is very serious. As in you really don't want to wait.

GO. PLEASE. NOW.

JaynieB · 23/03/2010 22:24

Good luck - hope all is well.

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 23/03/2010 22:32

I really do hope she's OK.

waitingforbedtime · 24/03/2010 08:18

beammeupscotty · 25/03/2010 00:05

I work for NHS Direct and my advice would have been a&e straight away as little one is probably there now attached to drip. 24 hours is way too long without wet nappies.

SusieCarmichael · 25/03/2010 00:09

god i hope she's ok

winnybella · 25/03/2010 00:47

I know...am worried

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 25/03/2010 01:15

I was a bit stern. I hope they are all at home and she's too afraid of me to come back.

waitingforbedtime · 25/03/2010 08:09

Last time dd2 was that ill (sore throat, vomiting, high temp) it turned out to be scarlet fever, we were turned away by the GP 3 times, she was poorly for over a week until another GP (out of hours) said it was scarlet fever.

I would take her to A&E or GP and demand they give her a good going over to check for everything.

Hope your LO is ok?

cookielove · 25/03/2010 18:35
