My dd had he 1st birthday yesterday. she has been ill with a cough and cold since midweek last week. Yesterday she realy started to deteriorate ( sorry spelling!)

She has vomited constantly for the last 2 days and hasnt eted anything since thurs morning when she had 2 spoons of weetabix.

The reason im even more worried now is that she seems to have become very drowsy and unresponsive

Her temp is only slightly up 37.5.

My friend and my mum recon we should take her up to the hospital but dont realy want to spend all night in a&e just to be told she has a bug and im overreacting.

Please tell me what you would do.

Please call them, they will advise you. Children become ill (and then recover) so quickly it's best to get an expert opinion.

If she's drowsy and unresponsive then please take her to A&E, a childrens one if you have one near you. They would rather see a healthy child then a really sick one because the parents didn't want to bother them. They won't be busy at this time of night. Sounds like she has a chest infection/pneumonia so please don't leave it.

I agree, A+E or out of hours GP. They usually try to see children quickly, so hopefully you wont be there all night

I'd agree with the others, that's a long time without food and the drowsy/unresponsive bit would concern me. I'd get expert advice and don't worry about wasting anyones time.

she has had some breast milk and some water but no wet nappies.

Threw up the milk but think she has kept some water down.

has kinda perked up a little bit, bout an hour ago her eyes were open but she was kinda asleep, now shes just lying there sucking her thumb staring at us.

Think the reason im reluctant to take her up there is because a couple of months ago she had the nurovirus and was vomiting realy badly, we took her to hospital then and were sent away feeling like we had realy overreacted

At least ring NHS direct - thats what they are there for and you will speak with a qualified nurse who will advise you if you need to take your baby into hospital or if its nothing to worry about.

Sweetie, no wet nappies = dehydrated. You've said she's unresponsive and drowsy. I trained as a paeds nurse and I am honestly and seriously telling you to get off here and take her to A&E. If it's nothing then that's fine, it's what they are there for. You really need to get her looked at now.

forgot to say she has eaten little bit of bananna yesterday but trew it straight back up.

Also ment to say I managed to get the doc to see her yesterday,he recond she had some kind of virus and would just get better in couple ov days... didnt fill me with confidence tho as he hardly even looked at her.

Your doc doesn't fill me with confidence either - I'd get another opinion.

If you take her and there's nothing serious wrong, the worst that can happen is that you'll be sent away and told you're overreacting. That's not so bad, is it? Far, far better than not going and there really being something wrong. Go. Save yourself an anxious night.

Even if she was seen yesterday and the GP wasnt worried that doesnt mean that she doesnt need to be seen again, you have said that she has deteriorated since she was last seen.

Certain infections can turn into much more serious things.

She has no wet nappies-she's dehydrated. How long no wet nappies?

have you tried giving replacement sachets? here

give a little spoonful of water every few mins, might be easier to take. wish I'd known that in 2008, DD got noro and ended up in hospital due to dehydration, was totally preventable

Champagne, ok the last thing that you want to do is spend the night at the hospital, but actually you need to. Stop typing ( other than to tell us you are putting her in the car!) and GO!!!

She needs medical attn NOW.

Please take her to A & E. my DD was admitted to hospital last week and put on a drip, she was severely dehydrated after vomiting for a full day.

the doc sid that not eating isnt a problem its just the drinking... as I said she has had a little drink about 50 mil water and kept it down so far.

The nappies have been dry today and over night but little damp yesterday.

Shud I ring the hospital befor we go or just turn um in a&e like with a broken arm?
