When to take to the GP? vomiting, not keeping fluids down.

Hi, i posted yesterday as dd2 had a high temp and vomited in the night, she has woken up this morning and been violently sick, she's not keeping fluids down, she's still urging but her tummy is empty (just bile). I'm not sure if its just a tummy bug as she has been unwell for 3 days, no diorhea (sp) and has a slight cough.

Her sister has to go to the doctors this morning, should i take dd2?

How old is she? Does she have other health issues?

Fluids given slowly are more likely to be kept down, afaik ... not sure re: gp - if she's vomming, she might be contagious, GP's office not the right place for her ...

I wouldn't take a vomitter tbh but I would request a home visit.

She's almost 4, no other health issues apart from Autism, i have phoned the doctor and they said they will put us in a side room when we get there, she had a sip of drink and was sick straight after so not keeping anything in .

Took her to the doctors this morning, he said to give her fluids with a syringe every 5 minutes, she's now even throwing that back up, i really don't know what to do now , i feel so useless, she looks so poorly.

Should i phone the gp back and tell him she's not taking in fluids or do i leave it a bit longer?

I'm not an doctor but if it was my dc, I'd ring back. The syringe trick worked with my ds when he had something similar. I'd be worried about her getting dehydrated

does she look dehydrated - eyes, lips ? Is she still weeing ? At xmas my DD (aged 3) ended up on drip for 3 days with D&V bug and had dangerously low postassium levels - so I am now going to be much more cautious !

thanks furrycat, i am worried about her getting dehydrated, gp gave us some Dioralyte but i can't get it in her (to stay in her).

She keeps asking for more drink so she must be really thursty, she's getting angry as she cant drink it as it comes straight back up . I'm trying to get Dh to come home in case i need to take her to GP or hospital as i can't take dd1 out because she has impedigo.

She's asleep now but breathing really fast, i don't know what to do, is this a bad sign?

if you are worried take her to A&E with your other daughter if you need to. They will reassure you or sort her out. Trust your mother's instinct, whatever GP says !

Gp hasn't phoned yet, i'm going to wait 10 minutes. Her nappy is dry (changed it around 3.5 hours ago (when it was slightly wet), so no fluid has passed through for at least 3.5 hours, her breathing has slowed a little, she keeps waking, looks at me and then falls back to sleep , poor little mite. I'm having such a shit day, dd1 has just got other a bug and now has imetigo so she's stuck at home, just had to cancel her birthday party for tomorrow so she's upset (and can't go to school), dd2 has been sick for 2 days and i have a sickness phobia which leaves me a nervous wreck (shaking, panicking).

Sorry for the rant.

is she normally sleepy this time of day. If not - maybe another sign she is getting dehydrated ? And while she is sleeping she is not drinking. I would get her seen this afternoon if I was you, otherwise you will just worry all night

She's never sleep (even at night), she has medication to help her sleep.

I wouldn't wait for GP to ring and would go to A&E tbh. From what you describe this is extremely out of character for your DD.

Still waiting for GP to call? apparently he was called away for a house visit (why can i never get a bloody home visit?).She's sat up now watching cbeebies but still keeps nodding off.

AHHHHHHHHH, My day can't get any worse, dh just phoned and he has got his work van stuck in some mud and is going to be late home . If i have to take dd2 to GP's or hospital i really don't want to be taking dd1, i can't cope with taking them both (they both have ASD).

Is there anyone who could come over to watch DD1?

I'm trying to find someone to look after dd1 (which is hard).

I have no idea how long DH will be, i don't know how far away he's working.

Thanks countrylover, no news really, GP never phoned back, i have managed to get a few sips of water and Dioralyte into her and she is now sleeping. I am going to stay up with her tonight and keep pushing the fluids (when she's awake), i'm so scared i'm going to get it, i can just about cope with dd2 having it (even though i'm shaking) but my worst fear is me getting it. Dh is now home so he have agreed that i will stay up and dh get a nights sleep so we can swap over tomorrow.

Just need to find things to keep me busy all night so i don't go mad with anxiety.

don't often post as I'm a Granny so a bit antiquated in my ideas But I always used to get mine to suck on an ice cube to get some moisture into them slowly, might be worth a try? Hope she feels better soon.

Well we made it through the night with no more sickness, i have been giving her sips of water and Dioralyte through the night (when she wakes), she's still really floppy and pale and keeps coughing. I keep trying to sit her up (to help keep fluids in) but she just wants to lie on her back.

I'm going to keep pushing the fluids for another hour and if she doesn't perk up a little i might take her back to the GP.

Should the Dioraylte perk her up or will she stay sleepy until she gets food into her?

You can vomit with chest infections. (And no diarrhoea.) Did GP listen to her chest yesterday?
