Hi, i posted yesterday as dd2 had a high temp and vomited in the night, she has woken up this morning and been violently sick, she's not keeping fluids down, she's still urging but her tummy is empty (just bile). I'm not sure if its just a tummy bug as she has been unwell for 3 days, no diorhea (sp) and has a slight cough.

Her sister has to go to the doctors this morning, should i take dd2?

The GP listened to her chest and said it was ok, i'm not so sure as when she sleeps i can hear her breathing/snoring.

I gave her a bath which seemed to have bucked her up a little, she's now drinking more and managed to do some colouring for 10 minutes before falling back to sleep. She has no dirrhoea at all (just did a normal poo) so it makes me wonder if it is a stomach bug (i thought sickness and diarrhea tend to go together with a tummy bug).

She still has a high temp of 38 c which she has had for 3 days and she looks as white as a sheet with dark circles under her eyes.

She has had a nibble of a biscuit but didn't really want it so has still not eaten anything.

Do you think i should take her back to GP or does it sound like she's getting over the worst of it? If it wasn't for the high temp i wouldn't be as worried.

Would she take an ice lolly do you think?

poor you, I hope they get better soon.

Marne · 05/02/2010 13:49

She's not keen on ice lollies (pulls faces as they are too cold) but might take it crushed up on a spoon.

Dd1 is being great, she hasn't made a fuss about me having to cancel her birthday party and is not complaining about her impetigo.

Tonsilitis can also make them vomit and comes with a high temp. Did he look down her throat?

Marne · 05/02/2010 13:58

No he didn't look down her throat (its very tricky to get in her mouth ), she does suffer from soar throats and has large tonsils. I will try and have a look when she wakes up, her tongue is very white and furry but i guess thats where she hasn't been drinking much.

Took her to the GP and checked her throat, its very red but not infected, she's spent most of the afternoon asleep and has just woken with a temp of 39.5. I have given her calpol and now waiting to see if she cools down. Doctor thinks its just a virus (not a tummy bug) but i'm still worried as she is so hot and sleepy.
I wish she could tell me what hurts (its hard work trying to guess).

Have you tried Ibruprofen too? I find it is more effective at keeping temperatures down for longer and you can alternate with calpol every 2 hours or so. Think you can give 3 doses of ibru and 4 doses of calpol in any 24 hour period.

It turned out to be scarlet fever , rash came out this afternoon along with the red spotty tongue, her temp shot up again to 40c so i took her to out of hours GP who conformed Scarlet fever. She's now on anti-biotics for 10 days and not aloud out for 5 days .

Oh poor dear! The breathing fast thing would have made me take her to A&E (assuming I wasn't worried sick about dehydration anyway). I'm glad to hear you know what it was, now.

5 days? Are you sure? I've known kids with scarlet fever before and they were widely socialising (with doctor approval) within 24 hours of diagnosis. Read up previous MN threads saying similar.

Flightattendant · 06/02/2010 19:09

Poor little thing, and poor Marne! I am with you on the scared thing, it's awful isn't it.
I hope her temperature comes right down with the antibiotics and you can finally start to rest. You must have been on edge for several days now.

bless you, reading this thread you sound like a fantastic mum x

Should be 5 days after antibiotics start
