hello, my son just does not eat
he picks at things very occasionally and pretty much refuses everything, he has lost a lot of weight, and now most mornings we are woken to the sound of him crying and to him and his bed covered in diorreah!!! delightful,
i know this is due to lack of fibre in his diet, but what can i do, i cannot force him to eat.
i have never had this problem before with my two dds. but am now at my wits end. any tips would be grateful before i take him to the doctors. TIA xxxx

I would take him to the doctor asap.

shonaspurtle · 11/12/2009 17:46

Could he have a food allergy/intollerance? I know nothing about this except that loose bm can be a symptom (caused by his gut having difficulty in processing the problem food).

Straight to the doctor I think if it's making him uncomfortable/ill.

CarGirl · 11/12/2009 17:47

absolutely drs urgently.

He could have a partial blockage and not eat because he feels very unwell/sick.

He could have food allergies and some foods give him tummy ache so he doesn't want to eat at all, it would also give him diorreah.

matildax · 11/12/2009 17:57

thanks ladies, although im now really worried!!
i will take him to gp first thing monday morning. he said to me yesterday that his tummy hurts, and last week he was sick twice. although that was mainly bile.
he will drink a cup of milk before bed, and because he has so little to eat, i do not have the heart not to allow him this, (many of my friends said to cut this milk out)
anyway thankyou again

i would not be waiting until monday to take him, i would be seeking advice today

Jujubean77 · 11/12/2009 18:08

You need to get him to the doctors ASAP. He is really ill from what you describe and in pain. Why on earth would you wait?

lisad123wantsherquoteinDM · 11/12/2009 18:11

take him tonight please

heavenstobetsy · 11/12/2009 18:12

cutting milk out is fine if he eats instead - but since he's not I'd let him have as much milk as you can get in him and get him to the doctors firsth thing MOnday

EldonAve · 11/12/2009 18:15

let him have the milk and see a doc this weekend

spookycharlotte121 · 11/12/2009 18:17

I agree.... take him for an emergancie drs appointment or to A&E. supprised you havent already.... sorry that sounds criticle. But think the worst case you waste the drs time... at least you have some peace of mind. He sounds quite porely to me. hope he is ok.

PirateCatintheXmasHat · 11/12/2009 18:17

i would be taking him asap, i can't understand why you have left it this long, esp as his bed has been full of diarrhoea.

He could be really ill, and dehydrated. In fact I would take him to a+ e. Or ring your surgery first for an out of hours number to speak to a gp asap.

midnightexpress · 11/12/2009 18:18

How long has he been refusing food? Is it a recent thing or more long-term?

Either way it sounds as if he needs to see a doc asap.

littledawleybaubles · 11/12/2009 18:19

A&E.

whoopstheregoesmymerkin · 11/12/2009 18:21

A&E FGS NOW

PixieOnaChristmasTree · 11/12/2009 18:26

I would be taking him to A&E now.

Before he gets really ill - although he sounds pretty bad now.

A&E tonight.

Yup I would be taking him to the out of hours GP tonight.

waitingforbedtime · 11/12/2009 18:37

Dont understand why youve not had him at the docs already but you need to get him seen tonight.

MissMoopy · 11/12/2009 18:45

Get your son to a doctor as soon as possible. How the hell have you not thought to do that already?

Jujubean77 · 11/12/2009 19:18

Toddlers in this state can decline very rapidly. If you are still reading please take it very seriously, it has been going on for a while from what you say and he needs treatment fast.

Explain everything that has been going on to the doctor tonight. Don't let the poor wee lad wake up in his own diorreah again tomorrow.

nickytwotimes · 11/12/2009 19:20

Jesus, woman, I hope you are not seriously saying you haven't taken a kid that ill to the doctors yet?!
GO to bloody A and E now.

nickytwotimes · 11/12/2009 19:21

'most mornings'?
God, I am quite alarmed tbh and I hope you are not for real.

HinnyPet · 11/12/2009 19:29

Why don't you ring NHS direct and see what they say?
They can get a doctor to ring yoy if they think it's an urgent case.

matildax · 11/12/2009 19:52

i thankyou for your advice, but i think you are thinking he has had absolutely nothing to eat, i said he will only pick at things.

hes running around fine during the day, laughing and joking as usual, and seems to be fine, he will drink juice and milk.

tonight he ate a banana and a little pasta. i will see how he is tomorrow as there has been few bugs going around his playgroup.

i have re read my post, and it sounds much worse than he is, it is not most mornings, like i said, sorry about that, it has been the last two. but i will be ringing nhs direct now and see what they say.

i apreciate my post sounds alarming, but dont critisize me, i was only asking for some helpful advice. some of you are making me feel like a idiot, i most definitely am not!

my op was badly written i apologise for that
thanks for the kind words from some of you
xx

Although the bit about him running around sounds fine the bit about D & V does not. If it were me i'd rather a trip to A & E and be told I'm a neurotic mother with a PFB than someone who didnt know thier child had a serious illness. Hope he is ok. Just go and get your mind laid to rest. Now.

Then, when you come back, tell us so it puts our minds at rest too...
