1 yr old hot to touch but shivering?

DD (15mnths) was sitting in her vest shivering but hot to touch.

I've now put her PJs on and the shivering has stopped but she's still warm.

Dont have thermometer I'm afraid but does anyone have any ideas. She's had the smallest dose of calpol.

When you have a fever you feel hot to others on the outside but cold on the inside... IYSWIM.

Sounds like she needs Calpol to bring down the temp.

hot to touch is sufficient to know that she has a fever!

I would give her the recommended dose of calpol and make sure she is sipping water

does anything else appear wrong? I would take to GP in the morning for a look over if she is poorly in the night

Yes, she's got a fever. Give her more calpol and lots of water.

Put a cover on her when she's cold and be prepared to take it off when she's hot. Keep an eye on her, watch out for rashes etc etc.

maybe use a cool cotton sheet rather than a duvet

sounds like a temperature - as hard as it is you need to strip her off. The body shivers to try and reduce the temp.

You could really do with some way of assessing her temp - is there no-one you can borrow a thermometer from?

thanks all,

Shes staying in with me tonight so I can keep an eye on her. She seems fine in herself although last night she had a fitful night sleep which she never has.

Could this all be down to teeth as she still doesn't have any.

Sounds like a fever to me. Calpol will help, as will luke warm flannel (not cold) wiped over her, light clothing ie vest/light pjs are good but not naked, or the other extreme not covered in a blanket, lots of small sips of liquid to keep her hydrated.

Any other symptoms?

Hoope she feels better soon.

Could be teething yes, but could also be a number of things.

Just plenty of fluids, keep an eye on her.

no I dont know anyone around here and my mum and dad say they dont have one either (theyre 20 mins away anyway)

Well she's been abit wingey but no more than normaly really. Shes had a nappy explosion this morning but none since. Shes still eatin well but not drinking as much as she normally does although still plenty of wet nappies.

you can also use ibroprufen - you could take a trip to a pharmacist and get a thermometer and some of that too?

Mp - theres no pharamacies open now.

Will get DP up in a little while and pop to Tescos before he goes to work.

Get your DP to get some ice pops or ice lollies. GP recommended this when DS2 wouldn't drink but had a high fever - worked like a charm to rehydrate and bring the fever down.

Also try adding ice cubes to her drinks, they love the sound of the cubes in the cup/bottle and it also helps to bring the temperature down.

Sorry not replied earlier but couldn't get into MN?

She seemed better on Weds and Thurs but shes back to being hot again and clingy (which she NEVER is)

Sounds like she has a bug, for sure. DD is like this with a virus, she can be unwell, then ok for a couple of days and it wears her out, then off-colour again.

Or maybe she is teething?

I hope she feels better soon.

My baby's 14month and keep shivering and burning up? Could this be because she's teething? Should I take her doctors? I've been giving her Calpol which has brought her temp down.

Teething should not cause a fever. It sounds like your baby has an infection.
