Please can you spare five minutes for me?

My three year old was poorly the day before Xmas eve, was sick and had a temperature.
Xmas eve took her to the docs as she was complaining of a very sore neck, they suspected tonsillitis but said they wouldn't give anti biotics because no white coating yet, but her glands were very enlarged. Told us to use a paracetomol type medicine as well as ibrupofen, both prescribed, so gave to dd as needed.
Today she has been terribly upset, has had a temp, has slept most of the day. HAsn't eaten anything, I've been forcing drink down her where possible. She still says her neck hurts (I think its her throat / glands) but what is worrying me is that she has not done a wee since this morning.
She's asleep now, got her nappy on and no wee yet.
How worried should I be about that? I've been getting her to drink as much as possible but it has been difficult.

I would think about giving the duty doctor a call,even if it is just to ask for advice,she,s been ill for 48hrs and I'm sure they wont mind.

I would be concerned about no wee in 12 hours.

I would ring the ooh service for advice now, they may take a while to come out or call back and in the meantime you can keep checking her nappy.

I would be concerned too. I would give her whatever she might ask for to drink, and def ring your out of hours GP, that's what they are there for.

We're stopping at my parents house for the week, would their doctors talk to me, or would I have to go home?
I keep checking her nappy, she has to wee at some point? I had her in a nappy through the day as she wanted to sleep (she isn't dry at nap/sleep time) and it seemed really dry.

you don't need to go home just call your parent's GP's out of hours service

You can be treated at a gp's surgery that you are not registered at,not sure of the procedure but think you have to fill out a form as a visitor to the area.Could you give the out of hours service of your parents gp a ring?

I would definately call out of hours dr tbh - call your parents drs number and usually a message at the surgery will give you a number to call. Or call NHS direct although depending on how busy they are you may have to wait a log time for a call back.

When you say sore neck - her neck isn't stiff is it and she can move her head to look down ok iyswim?

Is there an out of hours doc she could see like an NHS walk in type place?The one near us you ring the out of hours gp and they refer you on to them.

I would ring if it were me.

she has been saying since the day before xmas eve that her neck has been hurting (started tue evening) so we took her to the docs.
She has been upset when we have been moving her around, i.e. if she was asleep in my eyes and I moved, she'd complain. She's walking a bit stiffly, but her neck is swollen, so I'm not sure if she's just scrunching up to not hurt herself iyswim?

defo call the GP, they made me and dd2 stay until wee'd as it not a good sign. Please call and let us know

other than kidney problems, what can lack or urination mean?

(she's snoring away quite at the minute)

When DD1 was taken ill whjen we were at my mum's we went to ehr GP, they had no problem with that, there is some 'holiday patient' thing they did.
I also (another time) went to ym gp as dd1 was not weeing, was told if they had a fever they might not wee as much as their body would be using al the liquid to keep the body cool.

Call their out of hours and take her in, even if she is sleeping.

will do, will let you know how I get on. Possibly tomorrow if we have to trek to the walk in centre (tis ages away and always a min 2hr wait)

what can lack or urination mean - dehydration particularly if not taking in as fluid as normal (if she's not eating) so probably nothing to wee out. I wouldn't worry about that for a short while (ie a day) but if you are concenrned about the fever and stiff neck I would take her to an out of hours centre as well.

I've tried calling GP's night cover before and they were rubbish - "take two aspirin and call back in teh morning" kind of thing.

Okay, firstly, thank you for all your replies, love how even on christmas day you can come on mumsnet and get advice
Rang the doctors near my parents and got put through to the out of hours and nsh direct.
Went through all the symptoms and what was concerning us, the nurse we spoke to said that she probably hasn't done a wee because she hasn't had much fluid and has a high temp.
When on hold, mum and I pulled dd's pajama bottoms up and she had got a rash, my heart jumped out of my chest! Younger sister traipsed downstairs for a glass, just in case, but it was mostly on the creases of her skin (knees etc).
Told the nurse on the phone, she just had blotchy skin really, but it had panicked me. However, going through all the symptoms, the nurse thinks she might have scarlet fever?
She told me to give dd more ibrupfren (I cannot spell that word!) and to give her the paracetomol at 12 tonight, then more ibrupfren at 3 in the morning as children temp higher at night (I didn't know that, but expalins why dd seems to burn up at night!)
We have stripped her off, got a cold flannel on her skin (rotating around legs / neck as she moves in the bed iyswim) given her medicine and more juice.
She has now done a wee, she woke up mumbling "mummy, done a wee in my nappy" and I was "ooooh, Evelyn, I'm so proud!"!!!
She seems okayish. Am going to wake her in a bit for the paracetomol and give her some more juice.
