Strange little things about your child's anatomy!

As soon as ds2 was born, I realised one of his toes was too short. It's still too short, nobody really notices except me - but it sure would help if he was kidnapped and I had to identify him!

I'm not sure how I'd identify ds1, apart from he has a freckle on the back of one ear and acts like a baboon.

I guess none of us has a perfect genetic make up. Ds2 has some other issues which I believe might indicate a chromosomal deletion or such, am not sure yet but am keeping an eye on his development. Am not too concerned about the toes

So I'm just wondering what strange little quirks everyone else's children have.

Ds has this bizarre pattern of veins on his back. On either side of his lower back, there is a star-shape of veins you can see really clearly under the skin. They all explode out from a central point, like a firework

He has very pale skin and is a skinny wotsit, so it's really obvious e.g. in the bath, kinda freaky, and somewhat beautiful as well...

Lots of my family have very slightly webbed toes (2 on each foot). It skipped me but my 2 DC's have them, maybe they'll be olympic swimmers one day!

DS2 has a dent in his leg. It's quite small, but I can't fathom how one might develop that in the womb. I'm secretly extra pleased he's a boy because hair will eventually cover it!
DS1 is perfect (sigh). He did have a very faint birthmark on the side of his face, but that seems to have gone.

mamaspanx · 13/11/2008 13:22

my ds1 has two swirly crowns in his hair..opposite directions..which i think is a bit unusual.

one of his little toes tucks under the toe next to it just like mine does so the pad has a ridge. not strange but its just the same as mine.

he has china doll blue eyes whilst i have brown (i'm adopted and no nothing about my natural father so i must be a blue eye carrier...from him, because my natural mother has brown..i think thats how it works)
so that told me something about him at the age of 28.

CharleeInChains · 13/11/2008 13:26

DS2 has a cyst in his kneck that he has had since birth and is extremley large 'down below' (not that i would use that i identify him!

DS1 got a big fat lump sticking right out of his chest where his portacath is so he would be easy peasy to recognise!

My dd has a tiny black mark in her ear, like a tiny blackhead. It's not a spot. She also has a stretched looking area on her thigh which looks like a faded bruise - again it is not. And some ezcema on her inner elbows.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/11/2008 13:31

dd has a sacral dimple and curly little toes.

countingto10 · 13/11/2008 13:59

DS2 was born with two of his fingers joined together. Have been separated now but still has the skin graft scars etc.

ilovetochat · 13/11/2008 14:07

dd's 2nd toes cross over her 3rd but she may have this sorted as she is walking on her toes.

dontbitemytoes · 13/11/2008 21:06

my dd has one pupil bigger than the other, just like me, only reversed! freaky genetic defect ;)

DontlookatmeImshy · 13/11/2008 21:10

mamaspanx - both my ds's have that 2 swirly thing too. Never met any one else with it though. I think they're really cute

teafortwo · 13/11/2008 21:39

My dd has one pointed ear and one rounded ear... for me they make the perfect pair - I have never before met a human being with such kooky and lovable ears... .

Missytrouble · 13/11/2008 21:56

Dd has a hairy back! And her tummy button is star shaped inside. Much to dp's delight as he calls her his little star!

BigTeuchLittleTeuch · 13/11/2008 22:00

DS has a little cleft above where the bumcheeks meet.

sagacious · 13/11/2008 22:04

ds was a star shaped birthmark on his bum
dd has a star shaped birthmark on her hip

Identical and actually if you were a bit of a hippy (which I am) rather groovy

Very odd

ExtraFancy · 13/11/2008 22:19

My DS has a double crown as well, mamaspanx

He also has a strange dimple at the top of his thigh which looks as if he's been lying on a pin...v strange birthmark, never seen anything like it!

solo · 13/11/2008 22:28

Ds has quite a few quirky things. His elbows hyperextend and he has a small roundish mark under his chest 'akin to a third nipple' according to the HV when he was born. He has a heart shaped white birthmark on his leg and one that looks like a bus on his bottom! He also has a half inny, half outy belly button. He also has a cows lick at his hair line. Odd boy! but all mine!

Dd has a strawberry birthmark on her left arm, but it has smoothed out and has started to disappear Her belly button looks a bit like a whirl. Her left eye is slightly darker than her right and they are an amazing colour!

Fllightthebluetouchpaper · 14/11/2008 19:57

Think Solo wins this one

It makes them kind of more special and lovely though, doesn't it?

Really dontbitemytoes??? Is it Adies pupil? my ds1 has this.

ds2's belly button is covered in a brown mole and looks very odd...he loves to show it to people.

turtle23 · 14/11/2008 20:05

DS has a birthmark like a five on a dice, and one on his head exactly the same as DH and DH's dad. He also has the little cleft above his bum cheeks (just like DH!)

Meid · 14/11/2008 20:09

DS has a hole in the top of his ear. I squeeze it every now and then and puss comes out!!!!!!

My DH has it too!!!!!!!

Cryptoprocta · 14/11/2008 20:13

DD has a patch of dark hair where her tail would be. One eye opens slightly more than the other, which I think she got from me.

Best of all are her preauricular sinuses. My baby got gills!

Cryptoprocta · 14/11/2008 20:14

x-post with Meid! Same holes?

Meid · 14/11/2008 20:23

OMG! Crypto! I've just googled preauricular sinuses and looked at images. YES that is what my DH and DS have.
I have never heard of it elsewhere - will read some more.
In fact, I asked a paediatrician once what it was and he didn't know.
Tell me, is it normal to squeeze pus out of it?

Thank you so much for posting! I can't wait to tell my DH when he gets in from work!
