Strange little things about your child's anatomy!

As soon as ds2 was born, I realised one of his toes was too short. It's still too short, nobody really notices except me - but it sure would help if he was kidnapped and I had to identify him!

I'm not sure how I'd identify ds1, apart from he has a freckle on the back of one ear and acts like a baboon.

I guess none of us has a perfect genetic make up. Ds2 has some other issues which I believe might indicate a chromosomal deletion or such, am not sure yet but am keeping an eye on his development. Am not too concerned about the toes

So I'm just wondering what strange little quirks everyone else's children have.

my ds has a v above his bottom where his cocyx is, takes after his dad, lets hope that is all he inherited..

ghosty · 14/11/2008 20:32

My DS has a 2 inch horizontal scar above his belly button, slightly to the left if you look at him, from an operation he had as a baby. It looks quite cool and he now tells people he was attacked by a shark
He has a slightly raised bit of bone on his breastbone and it sticks out (freaky looking)
He has a small round birthmark on his jawline
He has a double crown too
He is known for his freckles ... kids describe him as "You know, ghostyjr, the one with the freckles"
He has a dark brown mole in his groin.

DD has a little mole on her back and one on her bum cheek. She has inherited her father's big toes and I feel sorry for her for that. They are HUGE square hammers ... not a good thing for strappy sandals when she is older
She has quite unusual colouring too ... blonde hair (not white blonde but like gold) with very very dark brown eyes ... and a sprinkling of freckles on her nose.
She has teeny tiny holes to her ears. It is hard to get the thermometer in sometimes.

MirandaG · 14/11/2008 20:37

DD1 has aplasia cutis congenita Type 1 i.e. a bald spot on the back of her head

Cryptoprocta · 14/11/2008 20:41

They can get infected, but usually when they are older. They sometimes come with a lump under the skin nearby if they are infected. Some people's holes can go deeper than others, so maybe yours go quit deep and accumulate stuff. DD's have flakes of skin. Short answer - maybe!

My son has 4 nipples!!

2 vey faint ones about an inch under his "proper" ones. I've never known anyone with 4, I know that having 3 is quite common though.

Elibean · 14/11/2008 22:28

dd2 has moderately webbed toes (two) on each foot - dh had a look, and realized he has slightly webbed toes (same ones) as well, but never noticed till now!

dd2 also has a small skin tag on her anus, uneven (but unimportant, been checked) leg creases, and a floppy larynx (laryngomalacia) which is getting less floppy by the year: she's nearly 2.

accordiongirl · 14/11/2008 23:52

My daughter's got blue eyes, but the pupil of her right eye is one-third brown.

moondog · 14/11/2008 23:56

Flight, DS had this. His second toes were shorter than his big toe and his third toe. This is the strange thing, when he got to about 6, the toes grew properly and are now the right sort of length.

moondog · 15/11/2008 00:09

Blimey....thanks

LovelyDear · 15/11/2008 00:16

my ds has a single palmar crease. that is, whereas most people have two disjointed lines crossing their palm, his is one continuous line.
my dd has a strawberry mark on her shoulder, but it's under the skin so it just looks like a bruise.

dontbitemytoes · 16/11/2008 21:07

ingles2 i've had it all my life, and no-one medical has ever been able to explain why - i don't think it's Adies syndrome... ...because my ppil does dilate, its just normally much bigger than my normal one and dd is exactly the same.... oh my god, a neurological condition a trip to the doctor is required me thinks

TheArmadillo · 16/11/2008 21:14

ds has a crease in one of his ears where it didn't seem to unfold properly when he was born. He also has a tiny piece of umbilical cord on his belly button - like a hard lump about half the size of a pea. Difficult to see but you can feel it.

I was too PFB to get it removed when he was a baby (burnt off I think), but it would only be for cosmetic reasons as it won't cause any probs.

He has a very whirly crown which makes it difficult to cut his hair and means it all sticks out in diff directions if it gets long. Dp has same.

EachPeachPearMum · 16/11/2008 21:42

When DD was born, one of her ears was 'unfinished' - it was flat not curled round the edges, and quite squarish.
It carried on growing in her first few weeks though, and is now just like her other (normal) ear.
Some very interesting things on here- DH also has 4 nipples, but there are 3 down one side rather than symmetrical.
DD has toes like ghosty's dd... and so does dh. They both have really soft, curled-over toenails too.
Poor girl, as my feet are the one thing I think are beautiful about me

TheProvincialLady · 16/11/2008 22:02

DS has one ear with a bit of extra cartilage in it that makes it curl forwards at the top a little bit. It was very pronounced when he was born but not so much now. He also has two tiny patches of missing pigment in the skin by his groin. And a whirly low crown which makes his hair difficult to keep tidy - just like his dad.

Flightattendant4 · 17/11/2008 12:16

I am liking thr ear stories...Eachpeach, how funny that it kept growing!

Ds2's ears were very very squashed into points when he arrived. They are a bit more roundy now but he was a bit of a pixie!

Simplysally · 17/11/2008 12:20

TPL - my ex-bf has a tiny lump on his ear like that. It looks as though it's been pinched out of shape but he's had it since birth.

superloopy · 17/11/2008 12:43

teafortwo I also have one round ear and one pointy ear! As does my DD, brother, nephew, niece and Mum! We are a bunch of half spocks!!

accordiongirl · 17/11/2008 22:46

I like this thread by the way!

mamadiva · 17/11/2008 23:07

Hmm... I don't think DS has many.

He has a birth mark on his right eyelid that goes bright red when he cries or gets hot whereas its normally purple

He also has 3 cows lickswith one each side of his parting and the other at his crown.
Abit like me but I have 5 in same places plus 2 at the nape of my neck.

He has half a toenail on his right big toe because he dropped his Thom,as toy on it and it went black then fell off.

And his ribs turn out at the bottom so they are a funny shape.
