my Baby brings her legs up as high as she can and slams them down with what seems like as much force as she can muster I’m worried she will hurt the heels of her feet by doing this so much she will be 6 months old in a couple of weeks is this normal she does it all night and seems to do it more since switching to a new cot

Does she do it against the mattress or the cot frame itself? Maybe it just feels pleasantly bouncy against the mattress, I wouldn't have thought it would hurt her. You have my sympathy though, my DS went through a phase of banging his head rhythmically against the cot bars and laughing maniacally at the same age. I was quite worried and spoke to HV etc and he just stopped doing it one day.

Should be ok if they wear a sleeping bag

Ohhhh lord DS (now 2) did this for a while. I'd forgotten. It was a short phase, a few weeks? Hopefully will be for you, too.

It's very very normal. Won't do for long- she'll be rolling over instead soon. My 9m old is now standing up in the cot!

Oh I'd forgotten about this phase too. It didn't last long but maaan it drove me mad. I think it's just a sensory thing for them!

Mumaway · 29/10/2023 21:33

We had that too, when she was in her sleeping bag. I think it just felt fun and bouncy to her, but it used to wake me up with a start

My son used to do this. It's nothing to worry about.

My son used to do this. It was mega annoying. But nothing to worry about. I think it’s a mix of core strengthening moves for getting ready to roll over/crawl etc and probably just because they thing it’s fun
