3 year old woke up screaming his Willy hurt

Sorry I posted in the wrong section..

Hello,

Our nearly 3 year old has been to the toilet for a wee several times today. It doesn't smell, doesn't hurt him to pee, and isn't dark coloured like a UTI. But I would say the amount of times he has been is a bit more than he usually would and he hasn't drunk any more or less.
He also has no temperature and hasn't seemed unsettled at all today.
He just woke up after being aero for three hours and was screaming in pain shaking. and when I asked where it hurt, he held his Willy and balls and was bellowing. He then had a wee and calmed down . What could this be?
Any advice please. Thankyou! Xx

Bless. If it happens again I’d get him checked. But it could be that he’s had a wee erection and his foreskin has been tight and it’s been sore or even uncomfortable enough to upset him… or if he has a wee thrush infection down there- is it red at his penis tip at all? UTIs are relatively rare in little boys but not impossible… but skin infections or tight foreskins more likely. Any “ballooning” of the penis when he pees (Willy sort of inflated first then pee comes out?)

Mumteedum · 13/07/2023 22:24

My boy got balanitis once or twice at that age and needed antibiotics. Didn't seem obviously swollen either, he just cried when he weed and I think he may have had fever but don't remember. I'd get it checked.

Jammything8 · 13/07/2023 22:26

I would definitely get him in the GP tomorrow and make sure you get his urine dipped too. Poor thing it sounds like the pain was quite severe for him.

noglow · 13/07/2023 22:28

Get him to a gp

12RedRoses · 13/07/2023 22:28

He also might not be able to describe testicular torsion/locate the pain and that’s something that needs seeing tonight not waiting until tomorrow

Totallyconfusedperson · 13/07/2023 22:30

Gonna echo what PP said about testicular torsion, if he’s screaming in pain, take him to A&E

DesparatePragmatist · 13/07/2023 22:30

Def docs in the morning. DS had balantitis at a similar age, horribly painful and needs treatment.

In our case he ended up needing a circumcision because he ended up with scar tissue round the foreskin. Doesn't mean that will happen to your DS but do get it checked.

If he didn’t settle then yeah- but if it’s a once off and he’s gone back to sleep it’s not necessary to rush off to A and E.

Jammything8 · 13/07/2023 22:35

@TappingTed to be honest and I'm not picking at OP but I would of got him in the GP sooner. He's only small... it's nearly the weekend and it does sound like he's in agony and it only released when he had a wee so it does sound as though there is a problem. With it been a sensitive area I think it is concerning I wouldn't really wait around for him to be in pain like that again.

mumtoboys12 · 13/07/2023 22:36

Thankyou everyone - he fell back to sleep after the wee. I will make an appointment tomorrow, his Willy doesn't seem red the only difference I would say today is that he has gone for quite a few more wees than he normally would.

@TappingTed he always gets a really bulgy penis when he pees. always looks and feels like it'll pop

@Jammything8 it only happened half an hour ago Xx

In that case, def docs. The ballooning is a sign of a tight foreskin preventing the wee from flowing freely. V common and most little boys grow out of it, but if they don't it's a recipe for inflammation and infection. The screaming and pain is when urine is trapped agains the inflamed glans (tip of penis under foreskin), stinging and burning. Can cause all sorts of issues both when they try not to pee, and of the infection isn't treated.

mumtoboys12 · 13/07/2023 22:48

@DesparatePragmatist Thankyou so much. I will take him to the doctors tomorrow my poor little darling!!!😢

You're responding immediately so it will be fine, I'm sure. If he struggles to wee in the morning, get him to stand in the bath and run the hand held shower or pour jugs of warm water over his willy while he goes - it can be soothing. Good luck to you and your little chap!

Windercar · 13/07/2023 23:38

Half an hour is a long time to wait to be honest. A good parent would have anticipated this and acted sooner

How helpful - do be quiet.

Op, if he fell back to sleep and was no longer distressed, get him checked in the morning at the GP. Ignore this comment. Flowers

beckyre · 14/07/2023 01:50

@mumtoboys12 I remember seeing someone on here give advice to get dc to pee in a tub so if you do get a gp app you can take in a sample with you (first morning pee might be best?)

sleepismyhobby · 14/07/2023 02:02

My friends little boy had similar to this and needed to get a op.
Something to do with his foreskin being to tight . He was roughly the same age . You need to take him to out of hours asap

sleepismyhobby · 14/07/2023 02:20

Sorry I'm
Nightshift and was thinking it was Saturday so confused with the days a normal gp appointment would be Fife

Mumteedum · 14/07/2023 13:03

How is he today @mumtoboys12 …?

Windercar · 14/07/2023 14:55

@ladydimitrescu it was a joke in response to PP saying she’d waiting too long and op saying it was only half hour.

I thought you may have understood that by the fact I said a good parent would anticipate a problem before it happened (which to clarify is not possible) but perhaps not. Maybe you were tired eh? And rude. Yeah that’ll be it. Tired and rude

mumtoboys12 · 14/07/2023 21:12

I called the doctor this morning and he wasn't overly worried and said as king a she doesn't have a temp then not to worry.
He has just woken up again doing the same and I say him on the toilet- he went for a wee and calmed down.🤪
