Mass on brain 4 month old baby

eastview · 15/11/2022 11:03

I don't even know where to start but I took my daughter (4 months) to the GP as she's done this flickering eye roll ever since she was born and they thought it was linked to reflux as did we but they referred us to a paediatrician just to be sure. They did an mri and eeg which showed seizures but found out yesterday that she has a 2cm mass on her brain. I am absolutely devastated and don't know where to go from here. They haven't given an indication as to what they think it is and we are just waiting to hear from them. All I'm thinking is the worst and I can't stop crying. I've been thinking about how I'm going to kill my self when my daughter dies. I feel hopeless and that I don't have the strength to do this. She is my only child and I tried for over 3 years to have her with miscarriages in between. They thought she was missing her cavum during pregnancy so that was traumatic too. I don't know what to do, I can't believe this is happening to us.

Good luck, thinking of you and your beautiful daughter.

Minfilia · 21/11/2022 13:46

Best of luck OP, I hope it’s a positive outcome.

I had a family member who had a benign brain tumour and made a full recovery so it isn’t always the terrible news you expect.

Pr1mr0se · 21/11/2022 13:48

I hope this is resolved swiftly and well for you. Take up your in laws offer to pay for private. - It could speed things up for you and potentially provide a lot more medical support (hand-holding). Do not whatever you do start googling for answers.

Katieeb24 · 21/11/2022 13:50

Thinking of you today xx

MadeForThis · 21/11/2022 13:51

I'm so sorry @eastview but know that you are not alone. We are rooting for you and your beautiful daughter. I know it's easy for me to say but please try not torture yourself with what ifs because your daughter is going to need you fully present mentally and your full support. I understand as I have GAD and PND with intrusive thoughts after my first baby. It might help you to seek help yourself from your GP in terms of medication to help get you through because it's probably one of the most terrifying stressful things to go through, particularly when your hormones are still settling after birth.

Instead of thinking what if, think what are the facts, what do we know. Write it down if it helps as a journal and then you can keep track of results and dates of scans etc and help to keep your head clear of the general panic. You can also identify your feelings and see where there are any thoughts which are not founded on facts but instead on fears. It might be possible to reduce the impact of those fears if you can make a list and ask your daughter's medical team questions around them and also see a pattern where your thoughts are not supported by fact or are out of perspective with reality. I do this and it helps me, hopefully works for you too.

Pull in some favours from family and friends so you can look after yourselves as well in terms of eating, sleeping etc. This is important for you and so you can be a support to your daughter.

I really hope the contrast scan goes well today and they get a better insight into what the mass is, the prognosis and treatment plans available for your daughter.

She's currently healthy and happy so suggests they've caught it early, that's a blessing. Thinking of you xx

AtrociousCircumstance · 21/11/2022 14:03

She’s utterly beautiful OP. Sending love and light and positive vibes to your family today ❤️

GeneParmesanPrivateEye · 21/11/2022 14:03

Another one rooting for you and your beautiful girl. xx

Jewel7 · 21/11/2022 14:06

When my daughter was a baby the midwife queried spina bifida due to a physical symptom. I spent the next couple of weeks panicking but all was ok. Thinking of you and hoping for a positive outcome x

Averyspecificquestion · 21/11/2022 14:07

Just wanted to say good luck and well done for advocating so hard for your lovely daughter.

My 3 month old has just come back from his investigative surgery under general today and we've only been in a day but already feel much better than the first few (terrifying) hours so hang on in there. The hardest but was watching him go under and then walking out. We've had good news today and I hope you get it soon too.

JCoverdale · 21/11/2022 14:08

Said a prayer for your lovely baby and for a good outcome for you all!

She is lovely!🌻💛

idonotmind · 21/11/2022 14:09

Your and your girl are in our thoughts, east.

Huge hand hold

Joystir59 · 21/11/2022 14:20

All the best OP. Your little girl is absolutely gorgeous- what a happy smiley face

LittleBrownRug · 21/11/2022 14:21

You were the first person I thought of when I woke this morning OP.

I had a very sick baby many years ago and can remember the pure terror when you're waiting for the words to come out of the consultants mouth.

She's a darling. Whatever it is, you'll get though this though I know that sounds like a trite thing to say 💐

Dartmoorcheffy · 21/11/2022 14:28

Best wishes that there's good news today

PollyAmour · 21/11/2022 14:30

Your baby girl is an absolute treasure and I hope you get some reassuring news today.

Sunflowergrow · 21/11/2022 14:33
