I really don't like the look of this?

I've just gone to bathe my toddler and seen this and I really don't like the look of this? I panicked meningitis but it doesn't look like that. Does it oook like finger bruises? That's really concerning to me too we carry him on shoulders but if it was from that/him bruising easily it would be on both legs. He goes to childcare so I'm worried there too. What does this look like?

Shin bruises are usually in the front of the shin in the bone (I constantly had those from knee to ankle as a child)

DS had bruises like the ones in the that when he was held down and kicked by another child.

Omg 😭

That breaks my heart, that's my fear although I do think he'd tell me if something like that happened. His friend ran past him at softplay and he came running down to tell me that she shoved him when she literally just ran past, he does 'tell on' anyone who hurts him to me usually so I can't imagine him being treated so cruelly and not saying.. but I guess you just never know. I've been asking him what happened and he keeps telling me he jumped on to a helicopter in the sky and fell off so it's not helping..

Would think anything of it. Kids bump and bruise! What do you expect to happen?

Clevs · 04/10/2022 21:20

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Not sure what people expect 111 to do about it?

PorcupinePie · 04/10/2022 21:25

My DS's legs have looked like this since he started walking - he doesn't strike me as particularly clumsy but he probably does fall over / off something / walk into something a couple times a day. He's outside for large parts of the day, on his balance bike, or climbing something, jumping off things, etc. He'll be 3 in a few weeks. Is your boy generally quite active?

Pigsinmuck · 04/10/2022 21:44

I wouldn’t worry at all, looks like an active 3 year old to me.

If you’re concerned see your GP. Definitely not A&E, and 111 can’t do much either.

Arsewangry · 04/10/2022 21:51

If there is bruising on his calf too I'd say maybe a squeeze bruise, however if just shin it could well be that he has knelt on something.

Benjispruce4 · 04/10/2022 22:08

Looks like a normal bruise to me. Bony area that is likely to be bumped and you said he bumped his shin recently. He’s acting fine, eating fine and has no temperature.

skedaddler · 04/10/2022 22:41

Looks like he bumped his leg to me.
Some people bruise much more than others.

No bruising anywhere else
He burst into tears for no reason around 1pm and when I asked why he said his head felt tight. We didn't know what he meant, I assumed a bit of a headache he drank some water and has been fine all day since but then I saw this and now I'm overthinking everything!
He doesn't wear nappies so there's no reason for anyone to of held him down Sad
He's always covered in bumps and bruises I've just never seen one quite like that, that dark and that size/shape.

It's probably absolutely nothing, but everything you've said is telling me you must call and arrange to have this checked out.
I'm not saying hotfoot it to A&E, but I'd certainly be on the phone to the GP as soon as they're open.
If it's just bruises from bumping himself, great, you know and can move on.
But unexplained bruises can be signs of all-sorts of things, and I personally couldn't rest once i'd started to worry.
