My girls legs - bruising (pic)

She has little/ no bruises as of Wednesday afternoon but these have just come up over the last few days. She's been in nursery wed/thur/fri morning.

Is this normal? She's never been this bruised up before! Also saying that her legs are hurting.

She's 3years 8months.

Look like finger marks to me.

Maybe ask a GP for their opinion?

I think I will to be honest.

They look sore and I the left leg (but right on in pic) it's raised and swollen slightly too.

She's not said anyone had hurt her, and she usually does tell me with stuff old that.

Has she been practicing cycling her bike? Just asking because when my dd was younger she had loads of bruises on her legs because her feet were slipping on the pedals and they were whacking her on the shins.

It doesn't look as bad on the pic but RL it looks awful

My dc legs were like this when he used his pedal bike as a balance bike.

They are the same again now, this time from him playing ninjas with his brother

Yeah mispym she has. Maybe that's it then. But her feet haven't really slipped off much. Once or twice.

And we've been at it a week now. Not sure.

She's got a scrape higher up her leg (can't see in the pic) from her faking off her bike and scraping it on pavement

Have you by any chance been carrying her on your shoulders, holding her shins?

It's a possibility then. My dd had an asthma attack and ended up in hospital and I was a bit embarrassed by all the bruises on her legs but when I said it to the doctor he laughed and said it's more unusual to see a child of that age without loads of bruises at that age.

Has she been ill in the last 4-6 weeks?

My 4 year olds legs are always covered in bruises like this. General monkeying about, trips and climbing can cause bruises like this.

Has she just started nursery or anything similar?

Yup my dd gets those from the bikes in nursery, same as pp she uses them as a balance bike and knocks her shins on the pedals.

My 3.5 year olds legs look pretty similar. It's just from general playing, climbing, bike riding etc

Shes had a cold but that's it.

She's been at nursery for over a year now.

Don't like her legs looking like this! Looks like someone has been hurting her!!!

I would say it is pretty normal, I would be more worried if she had brusing in areas like the tummy/face.

My 3year olds legs look like that all the time, he just never sits still and is pretty clumsy. I would have thought it was pretty normal tbh.

Please get checked out at the doctors. Probably just normal rough and tumble but my little boy became very bruised (alongside other symptoms too like persistent colds/coughs, joint pain, restless legs and fatigue) just before being diagnosed with acute myeloid Leukemia.
It never hurts to be over cautious.

My dd's legs constantly look like this - I tell her it shows she's been having fun. I doubt very much it's anything to worry about.

She's not like this usually that's what's making me concerned. She doesn't really bruise easily.

She's also got a bruise on her back :-/

I'd ask her if she's been playing any new games at nursery. It could be from a bike or new piece of equipment she's been playing with. Also, has she worn something different such as a skirt or shorts rather than trousers that have caused her legs to be a bit more prone to bruising this week.

I would be more concerned if the bruises were on her upper arms or torso - I just don't think bruised shins are worthy of a visit to the doctor. Have you asked her how she thinks she hurt her legs?

I am a child protection SW and i have seen many, many bruises
children. Those bruises look like very normal bruises that children get from playing. It is possible the play in nursery is more boisterous than she has been used to. A bruise on her back means nothing either without context.

I would not go asking her if anything has happened and if anyone has hurt her. She may say yes in a bid to please you if she thinks that would be the answer you are looking for. Three year olds are not very credible in giving accounts like this.

I would not take her to the doctors either. They will tell you the bruises are normal. They cannot tell from looking if someone has harmed a child. Even specialist paediatricians have trouble with that without any context.

You could ask the nursery what sort of games she has been playing as she seems to have accrued lots of bruises. I would be vary wary of making any accusations though.

With hindsight I shouldn't have suggested asking your dd how she got the bruises - thinking about it, my dc would have no idea how they get all the bruises on their shins, although they might recall how they got a bruise on their head, say.

Definitely take her to the GP and he can do a simple blood test which will hopefully reassure you.

Those legs look like the most normal of normal legs on a 3 year old. I don’t think the doctor will do a blood test. By the time the OP got an appointment those bruises will be long gone.

I know i sometimes get massive bruises and i cannot for the life of me think how i got them. 3 year old clatter about and bash into things. I think it shows a child who has been busy exploring her world.
