As the old thread is filling up I thought I would get a new one started!

This thread is for anyone with a child with asthma, or asthma type symptoms. Between us we have to much experience of inhalers, nebulisers, steroids, sats and all things asthma!

Hope you get some answers soon, poor thing. Hopefully lots of rest over easter will allow for him to clear the bugs a bit x

Isitme - is it worth you trying to phone to get the appointment moved forward if he is still having trouble?

Badvoc your not a shitty mum! Please don't think that, it's not your fault
Have the school offered any support for him?

lollipoppi · 11/04/2014 22:36

Sorry Badvoc I got shitty school and terrible mum mixed up, but your not either Grin

Badvoc · 12/04/2014 08:40

:)
He coped ok yesterday - is pretty snotty this morning and one of the other mums just text me - her daughter has come out in chicken pox this morning !!
I went into School yesterday and had a chat with the HV they have on staff.
She was very nice. I am grateful the school haven't sent me letters etc yet and they know every absence is genuine but I am just frustrated I guess.

isitme1 · 13/04/2014 08:27

Will try that but I have a feeling he will say see gp Hmm
Hes very wheezy this morning will give him his inhaler amd see of it helps

Badvoc · 13/04/2014 09:09

Ds1 coughing all night again :(
Last day of his ABs today too...
Wwyd?
He has had 5 days of ored and 5 days of amoxyycillin....back to gp?

ilovemonstersInc · 17/04/2014 08:39

Badvoc how is he now?
Ds isnt sleeping due to his cough at night and hes getting really bad tummy ache so back at drs today.
Whats the med called to help him sleep and not cough at night?

ilovemonstersInc · 17/04/2014 13:17

Woops forgot to say its isitme1.
Hes been but gp wont prescribe clenil despite his chest being noisey Hmm
hes been given another course of antibiotics

Sirzy · 17/04/2014 13:23

I would push to see a specialist sooner Ilove. Or if his chest is noisy I would take him to A and E

OP posts:
ilovemonstersInc · 17/04/2014 14:26

Ive rang the hosp and hes on leave and so is his secretary until Tuesday. Will see how the antibiotics work on him. I do have the clenil 50mg one and a 100 one too (ds1 has them) so was wondering of I should just give him a puff of the 50 morning and evening and see? Until hes seen.
I think its disgusting that the gp has a letter from his paed to say if hes using it frequently please prescribe clenil inhaler. Ive been to gp at least 3 times and a+e too and not a thing even though his chest is bad.
I also have atrovent inhaler too if that will help? Its his inhaler from when he had bronchiolitis.

With ds1 it was reflux that took over our lives (and still is for him hes tube fed because of it and other digestivepproblems) and with him his chest. I never would have imagined they could impact their lives so much!

lollipoppi · 27/04/2014 14:20

How is everyone doing??

I'm sure DS is about to have an episode, I can just feel it coming!

Sirzy · 27/04/2014 22:00

Hi lolli, I have exactly the same feeling with DS at the moment. We keep needing to give him lunchtime ventolin because he is struggling. I am putting it down to hayfever at the moment

OP posts:
lollipoppi · 28/04/2014 08:35

Glad it's not just me, It kind of feels like it's been too long since our last hospital visit!

Must chase up his consultant appt, the last appt he had we were actually on the ward so re-scheduled but not heard anything yet

Sirzy · 28/04/2014 12:27

We aren't due back at the consultant until August but if he keeps on with these lunchtime attacks I think I will phone for some advice.

Hello everyone! I'm sorry to jump in without reading the thread but I could really do with some advice. My ds is 5.6 yo and has food allergies and asthma - pretty much apparent from the very beginning. He has been having a brown inhaler (50mg beclametazone) morning and night for 4 years and ventolin as and when. he has had a couple of hospital stays but not recently. Last week he started seeming to be short of breath and the following day he had 2 awful asthma attacks. He was prescribed antibiotics as the dr diagnosed a mild chest infection - and the pred' (can't remember entire name) dissolvable steroid tablets (we call it his pink drink!) He had the steroid for 3 days and seems almost completely better. This last couple of days he has been really fidgety, unable to sit still, flapping about, talking 10 to the dozen. I have been trying to work out if it's asthma or medication that's causing it. I flipping hate all this. It's such a worry. Please does anyone know or have any experience of side effects of steroids or asthma.meds? Thank you x

lollipoppi · 01/05/2014 19:14

Hi stottie
Glad your little one is on the mend.
I think you have the pred to blame for this, it's a common side effect, my DS is like a loon when he has had pred, especially coupled with extra ventolin!
Don't worry it will pass soon and he will be back to normal (if there is such a thing Smile)

stottiecake · 01/05/2014 19:59

Thanks Lollipoppi! That's reassuring to hear. Do you think they can have a delayed reaction as it was last week when he was having it? Although he has been having extra inhalers too. He has been off school with upset tummy (only one incidence on tuesday but school won't allow them in for 48hrs after) i'm thinking I will let his teacher know about the extra fidgeting - would hate for him to get told off as well. He can't sit still!

lollipoppi · 01/05/2014 20:49

DS is normally a bit hyper for a while after pred, but I think it's also down to the ventolin as ventolin raises the heart rate. I would give school a head up, DS is at nursery and they have been warned this week to Smile
It's a shame to think they might get into trouble when actually it's not something they can control

ilovemonstersInc · 04/05/2014 10:21

I rang through to his conusltant who took over a week to get back to me. He has faxed the gp to say he needs the brow steroid clenil inhaler 1 puff morning and night and if now better then 2 puffs. If in 4 weeks hes still bad will see him in clinic soon if ok then before winter. Hes currently ill again with his chest. Gp didnt do prescription in time as they didn't receive fax in time. Hes currently on 6 puffs every 4 hours. As soon as his 4 hours are up he needs it again just wont stop coughing. Will get him checked if hes still like this tomorrow or if he gets worse.

How is everyones dc?

lollipoppi · 04/05/2014 20:54

Ilove how has he got on today? Hope he is doing ok

As predicted DS had a bad attack Hmm one night in hosp on Nebs ect, were home now but he isn't doing great bless him

LargeGlassofRed · 05/05/2014 20:08

Argh haven't been on this thread for ages, thought dt2 had actually outgrown his problems for the last six months he's been on his brown inhaler 2 am and 2 pm and ventolin up to 10 puffs when he needed it, hardly ever.
He's had a cold cough for the last 5 days so been having the extra ventolin, no temp just croupey cough.
Unroll before bed tonight after his bath noticed him breathing fast, gave him his 2 brown and 10 blue his sats were 90, since being in bed they've dipped between 84 and 87, apart from breathing fast he looks ok he's fast asleep and shattered really don't know what to to let him sleep and see how he goes on? or dash him to out of hours?

Sirzy · 05/05/2014 21:51

I would proably get him checked Large

Lolli hope he is better now.

OP posts:
lollipoppi · 06/05/2014 08:08

Large, how's he doing? Did you get him checked?

DS still not good, it's really unusual for him not to recover after pred and Nebs, but still working hard and coughing

Sirzy · 06/05/2014 17:05

Hope he is better soon Lolli

I have got DS an emergency appointment with his consultant on Thursday so fingers crossed we can get things under control again soon
