DD2 is 3years old.
While out on sunday walk today she started crying and wouldnt stop, kept saying it hurt, we thought feet or hands had got cold. She didnt stop crying for 30 mins until we got home.
She has been asleep on sofa for main part of afternoon. She has a cough which started yesterday. She also has a low grade temp.

She however has complained her side hurts inside.
She is now awake but not moving off the sofa and complains of pain everytime she sits up.

Of course its Sunday and would mean taking her to emergency GP.
Would you just watch and see?? This is what DH says we should do.

I'd phone out-of-hours doc (or NHS direct at least) and ask for advice. My first thought was appendix, though I think I read here recently that it would be unusual in such a young child, but I'd want a doc to advise on whether she needs to be seen.

BelleDeChocChipCookieMonster · 05/12/2010 16:22

If it's abdo then it could be a UTI or appendicitis. She needs checking over. I wouldn't watch and see, it's unfair to leave a small child like this overnight.

lisad123isasnuttyasaboxoffrogs · 05/12/2010 16:23

its the right side, def not stomach, more like front hip area.
I just put details in NHS checker and they said see GP today.

I'd say take her to A&E to be honest. A temp and pain in her hip could indicate an infection of the bone. This can be serious so I wouldn't leave it, this needs ruling out. It's better to get her checked over, poor mites in pain.

BelleDeChocChipCookieMonster · 05/12/2010 16:29

This one Lisa There's no harm in getting her checked over. If it's nothing then great. If it were my child I'd rather waste their time though.

I really do hope all is well.

NorthernLurker · 05/12/2010 16:30

I think GP - so basically it hurts when she moves? You need to get it checked. Dd2 has a friend who had appendicitis at 7 - and that was nearly, so nearly missed and dd1's friend had hers out last week after being fine one day and in pain the next!

BelleDeChocChipCookieMonster · 05/12/2010 16:31

The pain is too low down to be appendicitis, it's coming from lisa's dd's hip.

Goingspare · 05/12/2010 16:33

Having had a burst appendix (at 6) and osteomyelitis, I'd definitely seek a professional opinion. With luck it'll turn out to be a bug, but best to be safe.

Goingspare · 05/12/2010 16:34

'Front hip area' is what she said - my appendix scar is in the dip next to my hip bone (or would be if I were slim enough for a dip). Either hip or near hip needs checking out.

lisad123isasnuttyasaboxoffrogs · 05/12/2010 16:35

I've called out of hours GP and they will call back within the hour. DH thinks im overreacting and she's ok Hmm
But so many times I have put off phoning and ended up down tere at 10/11pm which is not fun!
There is a childrens A&E right infront of GP base so least we havent got far to go if they send us round there.
BelleDCCCM, thanks, but think her pain would be alot worse with that.

Not necessarily Lisa. It depends on how bad the infection is. There's been a few threads on here over the last week or so about children with hip pain and limping so there's some sort of bug going around. She does need checking over though.

Goingspare · 05/12/2010 16:41

Well done for calling. Probably best to have a doctor diagnose her than us...

Hope she gets better soon.

TheUnmentioned · 05/12/2010 16:43

hope she is ok. ds was ill with pain in his side, back and tummy and sore legs and temp a couple of weeks ago - good thing was it only lasted 36 hrs or so

lisad123isasnuttyasaboxoffrogs · 05/12/2010 16:47

she also has sholder pain which i know from experience is transferred pain :(
I hope its just a bug, but then if it is, she'll have to be careful round dh, no rest for the wicked!

Oh and Lisa, if it turns out to be nothing (hope it is), that doesn't mean that your DH was right (unless you've forgotten to mention that he's a paediatrician).

To be honest, I think if you're uneasy enough to post on here, a phone call is always a good idea.

lisad123isasnuttyasaboxoffrogs · 05/12/2010 17:17

got to take her in :(
gave me choice of 6pm two towns over or 8.10pm locally!! I chose the earlier one Grin
