Back on bl**ding branding & business names.....

Sod ...sod...sod....

Months ago I was pondering (on MN) about my business name...

The upshot (after loads of help and advise) was that I should stay Childminding@Walnut Corner....and not use anything too different for the Out-of-School Club.

So Walnut Corner Out-of-school Club was born....but now the Headmaster, 3 parents and a govenor have said that we should be XXX@Walnut Corner....but not what XXX should be......the only viable suggestion was Kids/Kidz @WC

I don't like the word KIDS never mind it being spelt wrong.

Help...do I just tell them to P* off?
Or can we come up with a good (fantastic) name??

Why do the head and parents and governor have so much influence over what you call YOUR business?

Why can't you call it what you want? (Not being controversial, just curious!)

none of their business really as 'school' and 'out of school' is a generic term and open to anyone's usage

but socially I suppose it depends how much you want to be nice to them and whether their irritation at your name will die down or whether they will bad-mouth you

I'm running the OOSC for a very small school and I offered to do this jointly with the Govners & School...they refused (but that's another story). However I do want to keep on thier good side

BTW I am the first C/Mer in Norfolk to get a grant from Surestart to run an OOSC [insert very proud icon]

Tell them that your sure start grant is for an Out of School Club and you feel nervous giving it a businessy name because the Government are expecting you to run an 'out of school club'

The parents def were trying to help - which is nice of them

sounds like both sides are fannying about trying not to insult the other

why don't you just put your foot down and tell them its out-of-school club

they'll get over it after a few grumbles and sideways looks

just continue being lovely to them all

I've been asked to expand...

DH & I are childminders - we operate as 'childminding@walnut corner'
We wanted to open as an afterschool club with the school. They said no.
Opened it anyway called Walnut Corner Out-of-School Club & got a grant (hence new puter)

Several people have said it should be XXXXX@walnut corner.

I agree...but don't know what XXXXX should be

is that suscinct enough

Is it a place ? A village name ? Does everyone in the area know it ?

Oh sorry the actual 'trading as' name
We are known as that nice couple with the children at Walnut Corner

Walnut COrner is the house name (well I actually named it - for the business) ...it has a large (40ft) Walnut Tree in the Corner of the garden

website & email addy to come eventually(and fit in with existing names)

OK. I understand the tree thing.

Ref: Corner... You know the tree is in the corner of the garden but is it particularly 'obvious' / isolated / squished ? (not the tree, I know it's big... the 'corner' bit of the name...

Also, is it particularly significant your house is on a corner ? Are the turnings / houses so rare that this is significant ? Is there some big kind of junction thingy ? Are you deatched / terraced ?

Nah....but I wanted a name and DD wanted Rose cottage.....had to pick something fast

So I had sign made £65 paid for name change at PO & Planning Permission £40 and now it's mine

I think it's better than Rose Cottage and it's slightly unusual
My house is now called Walnut Corner.....so the business is Childminding at (@)...

Out -of-School Club is jsut a bit cumbersome....

Have very nice website under construction...I'll ask if I can show you.....await email

OK. I checked and walnutcorner.co.uk / .com is still available.

I would consider registering them in the next 24 hoursTBH, if the name is fixed. You can choose the e-mail address at anytime.

I would possibly suggest keeping it simple:

info@walnutc...

enquiries@walnutc...

how about nutcracker@walnut... ?
