Thinking of touting myself out as a babysitter for New Years Eve, what to charge?

I don't normally come on this board so hello!

I was thinking that seeing as I have nothing better planned and generally loathe NYE that I might offer my services as a babysitter on the work newsgroup. How much do you think is reasonable to charge. I have no qualifications other than having a toddler of my own and babysitting as a teenager

Yes the family pay you cash (plus tips, hopefully ), and you get all the hourly rate. Sitters get paid a booking that the parents pay seperately.

The money is not the best, but you are guaranteed a minimum of 4 hours pay which helps. I have done loads of jobs and have been there less than 4 hours. My record is 45 minutes!!!! Working with sitters really helped me out of a financial slump when my CM work was at an all time low.

i normally charge £10 an hr mon-thurs with a min of £30 and £12 an hr fri-sun with a min of £40 thats in east midlands.

i have lots of experience and quals.

i charge £25 an hr for new years eve with a min of £100 and thats up until 1am.

choloe - have you registered with sitters?

i run a babysitting website but cant tell you which one! IME people do increase their rates for xmas new year valentines etc. if you wnat to know CAT me.

i would suggest £10 - 12 an hour or min charge £50 for evening. if people want to go out those nights they accept it costs a bit more. 2000 was the rip off year - couldnt find a sitter for love nor money!

I used to do bbst for sitters agency who tould me NYE is £15/h min 4 hours. Have to say that Sitters agency is not good for many reasons and I do not join them any more but NEY was great. Watching tv for a few hours, parent have been great (not just coffe in the house but lots of yummy food for me and dvd) and children sleep all night like angels:D
This year I am not working at all but another agency already call me and offer £12/h with minimum 4 hours and taxi.
This prices are for London NW and centrum so deppend where do you live ...

Just a bit about sitters - they cancelled a few bbst with short (2 hours before start) and last 2 times with just 30 min notice and no compensation at all although they saying if cancelation from family is shorter than one hour, family still have to pay 4 hours. I left msg, send email and asked what they going to do with this situation (was working for them over 3 years) and no reply at all!
So if you wonna join Sitters good luck and hope you gonna have a better experiencese then I did:O)

seems a reasonable charge. sorry parents/sitters cancelled you at such short notice. i feel taht an agency should be the ones to chase the fees due to you. it isn't fair and you cant get another job can you?
