Morning all, are you all off or anyone working?

I never got back in yesterday but saw this morning that Kay got her variation - WELL DONE . This means you're sticking at it for a bit longer then?

Anyway, thought I'd say hi and see what everyone is up to this weekend.

Gosh, it feels like Sunday!! How nice that it's not!

Just had an email query for a full time mindee. That would be fantastic. Not holding out any hope though. These days, until contract is sealed and signed, I don't get my hopes up. Too many disappointments

Hope you are getting used to your new mobile Nick! I've never got the gist of using my mobile to get online!! I only use mine to text and take pictures!!

Gosh Violet, that really doesn't sound pleasent. I do hope your cousin will be ok.

Hi everyone else too

KaySamuels · 22/03/2008 10:09

Ouch vi the poor little thing, and her poor mum too! I hope she is better today.

SB will keep my virtual fingers crossed for you.

Raeanne · 22/03/2008 10:41

Poor little thing.

This happened to a friends little brother when I was round their house for a playdate, many years ago. They managed to save his finger and all was fine.

crace · 22/03/2008 11:30

SB - ooohhweee - when do they see you? I agree, signed sealed and delivered before I get excited.

Vi - OUCH, poor little thing, I do really hope they can save it.

This is common?! Ack!! Now I am going to be on uber alert everytime my children are near any doors.

HI Kay!

It does feel like a Sunday and how LOVELY that we have another 2 days off after this. Fanbloodytastic.

looneytune · 22/03/2008 12:17

crace - bet you can't wait to stop eh!! I know I can't wait to stop having the heavy babies to lift and all the rushing about, I'll miss them but it's all been getting me down recently (not sure what's up with me, been having a very 'down' couple of weeks and very teary, must be hormones! ). And I bet the chinese was yum

Kay - no probs, glad to be of help Well done again! And I know how you feel about the parents as had this situation before but you will feel SO much better once it's done! Good luck

Boys - congrats on your win

MumL - hello

Nick - I'm the same, was a bit of a techie in the past but these days I don't even know what some new things are!!

Vi - that's horrible Hope it's ok after the op! My brother clear cut most of the tip of his little finger off when we were on holiday when we were little. It was hanging off 2 tiny threads and we didn't know what would happen. French hospital was fab and fixed it. Slightly scarred and disfigured but honestly, no-one would notice unless you pointed it out to them! I hope the same goes for your cousin's lo. I'm not sure how common this is but on my first aid course over the last 2 weekends, they actually showed us what to do with the bit that came off IF this was to happen i.e. how to preserve should they be able to put it back on. Suppose it's handy to know but hope I never have to see anything like that again!

SBelle - fingers crossed for you. Totally understand what you mean about not getting excited as been let down! Hope it works out for you

Raeanne - hello Are you new to the staff room? If so, welcome

Off to creep up to ds and scare him with major tickles!! (he's engrossed in tv and won't be expecting it )

looney - i did first aid last 2 saturdays too! was so nice not to get dressed and rush out this morning but they never told us what to do in finger cutting off incidents - her finger was like you brothers hanging off by a thread [yuck] - so i know if it had come off totally youd pack it in ice? but what if partially attached? apparently scarlet refused[very very wilfull] to be put under and threatened to bite people!! they did it on gas'n'air

BoysAreLikeBunnies · 22/03/2008 15:40

Ewww poor thing

Hope everyone is having a lovely break

MaureenMLove · 22/03/2008 16:02

Mine course last month did severed fingers! I think it was wrap it in something frozen and scream for help! I must say, they did give us a form to fill in whilst treating a patient, with all their stats, so that we could show the ambulance people when they arrived. I couldn't help thinking I would probably be running round like a headless chicken and would forget the damn form!

I'm going out again tonight! I am offically the oldest swinger in town!

nannynick · 22/03/2008 16:13

From my course, I recall that there was a 1-hour window, in which to get the amputated part to the micro surgeon. The the chance was a lot better for being able to get the part back on. After 1 hour, the chances dropped a lot.
With regard to Ice, it can damage the nerve endings. So should not be placed directly against the limb... instead the limb should be put in something to keep it clean - a plastic bag, then that wrapped in something to keep it snug - tea towel, then ice pack put around it, to keep it cool - but tea towel stopping the ice contacting with the limb.

A good friend of mine (a childminder) had her little finger amputated as a child in a childhood accident. For many years I didn't even notice... only recently - actually on a first aid course 3 or so year ago - did the topic come up and she told the story of how she lost her finger.

looneytune · 22/03/2008 16:21

Vi - brave brave girl!!!

Nick just beat me to it. First of all....do NOT clean it, doesn't matter how disgusting it may be from being on floor or whatever, you just do what Nick said and put in a plastic bag then wrap in a towel or something to protect it and then ice pack etc. Good to know I suppose as you never know what can happen.

OP posts:
nannynick · 22/03/2008 16:26

Oh there was something else to do on a amputated limb... big label on it, stating the name of the person it belongs to, the date and time (time of accident if known, else time the limb was packed). Then you give the package to the ambulance crew, for them to take with the casualty, to the nearest hospital with a micro surgeon on standby (may not be the nearest hospital, so v.important to ask them where they are going).

MaureenMLove · 22/03/2008 16:31

I knew all those things too, but faced with an actual incident, I'm not sure whether I'd remember it all. Thankfully, I've only ever had one incident over the years with a mindee, but that was only a squashed finger no blood! I faired ok with that, I was in control etc. I suppose your knowledge takes over and you just do it, if you need to.

nannynick · 22/03/2008 16:33

These new gadgets are getting smaller all the time... I need smaller fingers! Not got to grips with the phone yet, think it may take a while. Called customer services today - think I managed to change my price plan, so I can connect my laptop to my phone. Think that may be easier than using the phone's built in web browser. It's all getting horribly confusing, with luck I'll get it all working as I want over the next month or so! Cancelling my ADSL broadband home phone line is the next mission... need to write to an address in London giving minimum of 30 days notice. Expect I will be billed for April and possibly some of May. Meanwhile, phone may work out to be a faster connection, or possibly slower. Ah well - speed is not that important to me, as I rarely watch on-line video.

Hope this weather improves for tomorrow, I don't fancy watching Thomas and Percy having races, in snow/sleet/hail showers.

MaureenMLove · 22/03/2008 16:38

Where's Thomas and Percy tomorrow then, Nick? South is looking very possible for snow!

nannynick · 22/03/2008 16:45

Ropley, near Alton Hampshire.
Oh dear, BBC says Sleet. Metcheck says Light Sleet, feels like -3 degrees c.
I'll have to wrap up warmly.

vInTaGeVioLeT · 22/03/2008 22:10

been to visit my aunt&uncle earlier - scarlet didn't have finger re-attached under gas'n'air - she refused an injection- kicking and being wild and flailing about - so they had to give her gas'n'air to knock her out then GA - it took about 45 mins to sew back on and she woke up absolutely furious!!
her finger is very squashed and she has to back next week to have it checked over - the doctors seemed fairly hopefull.
what a relief

just waiting for dd to go to bed so that i can be the easter bunny - i've got 20 mini lindt bunnys to hide in places a 3yr and 13yr old can find . . . but not the dog!!!

mumlove · 22/03/2008 23:04

I am finally home and waiting to get into bed, have just put DD to bed (I hope she isn't up at 7am !!).
We have been out all day doing little things that needed doing (DH looking for a new bbq and gazebo). I was glad that I managed to get to the bank to pay my cheques in. DD has been looking at new swings as hers broke yesterday while she was on it at tea time.

crace · 23/03/2008 11:25

((((Warm vibes))) To Nick - we've just been out on a country walk in the snow which was great fun, but FREEZING.

Vi -great news about finger, hopefully it's saved - poor wee girl. I'd rather be knocked out too frankly!

Hi ML!

Hope everyone is having a nice Easter!

vInTaGeVioLeT · 23/03/2008 12:07

yippee - my other cousin had her baby this morning - an easter bunny

mumlove · 23/03/2008 17:51

Well another full day of visiting my parents and FIL, didn't make it to mil's but never mind! it meant DH didn't have to do any jobs for her, but going to the miniture trains was much more fun .
Just been out for tea (yum yum) now got DD in the bath as she was still up early 7.15am after last night.

Violet - Hope little girls finger gets better, and congratulations on another member of the family.

I hope everyone is still having a great easter weekend, 1 more day still to go .

vInTaGeVioLeT · 23/03/2008 18:06

i'm being very naughty!!!
dd is with her dad
dp is at work
and ds fell asleep watching "the dark crystal" with me on the sofa so i carried him up to bed and went on-line

i so know i will regret letting him sleep when he's wild and "not even a little bit sleepy" at bedtime!!!

but the peace

oh and dd(13yrs) started her period today - she was fine about it even a little elated i think - makes me feel old though now i have a child who could technically have a baby - eeeeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkk.

HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE

so far i've eaten 1 mini eggs easter egg and a creme egg and a hot x bun and 2 easter biscuits and a pile of popcorn !!!!!
