After School Club Costs

DrLucyVanPelt · 03/11/2022 15:47

Just seeking opinions and info on what others pay for after school child care.

Our school (Northwest England) has decided to outsource the club from January, with the price increasing to £9.25 a child. It will run until 6pm, a snack provided but not anything substantial.

We've 3 kids, and not sure if nearly £30 a day is expensive? Or, if this is just what it costs and we've been fortunate so far to pay less?

TIA

“Free”

Private school. Included in termly fee

I'd actually rather it was outsourced. Otherwise it's quote often / TAs running it who have already had a very long day and just want to go home - kids don't get as much out of it.

My school is breakfast club £5 (7.30-8.45)
After school £15 (3.15-6). Snack included. Based on site of school.

I think you have been lucky up to this point. The last one I used in 2017 was £12.50 a day if you used it til 6. I didn't find that outrageous to be fair and dd loved going.

Coffeetable123 · 04/11/2022 07:55

Northwest, ASC is £13. Breakfast club £7.

DD left primary last summer. After school club was £10 for 3.15-6pm, snack, but not a proper meal. no early pick up reduction. Siblings £8.50. West Yorkshire. Run by a a local small business - staffed mainly by TAs from school.

And schools can't afford to pay TA's to cover those extra hours each day

Wow I am still in awe of those charging under £10, even more so if they have food. We are in a low income area and its £12 and a struggle. I think they'd have less kids walking home to an empty house if it was cheaper.

AdriannaP · 04/11/2022 08:49

£14 here from 3.20-6pm. A small snack is included. It’s not outsourced. I think it’s expensive but on the other hand a nanny or babysitter wouldn’t be cheaper and is hard to find (and often not reliable IME) and I can’t stop work at 3pm.

JessicaBrassica · 04/11/2022 08:52

Ours is £10 3.15-5.55. in includes a snack. Breakfast club is a fiver.

We only needed 30 mins most nights because DH works in a different school and just needed 15 mins to dismiss his class and 15 mins to drive to our kids' school.

There are no childminders who pick up from our school so it's the only option.

After school sports /music clubs are £30 a half term but only last an hour. so we sometimes ended up paying for music and rugby AND after school club.

£13.50 in the SE. Snack is different everyday, the days my DD attends it is beans on toast, hot dog and bun and ham sandwiches. Better than the last school she was at, every single day the snack was mini sausages, sausage rolls, jam sandwiches and grapes which is fine occasionally but not every day(!)

MajorCarolDanvers · 04/11/2022 09:10

We pay £12.85 for after school club.

Wow @TofuonToast how on earth are they managing to do it so cheap?! Seriously jealous. I'd be using it so much!

I had no idea we were so spoilt! They run it in-house. You have to book and pay in advance. 🤷‍♀️

My DS starts school next year and I've enquired about the breakfast club and after school club. It would be £22 a day in total. £7 for breakfast club, £15 a day for after school club (until 6.30pm). I'm in the North West.

Divebar2021 · 04/11/2022 09:24

In the South East it’s £8 if I collect at 4.30. If she stays on til 5.30 / 6.00 it’s £15 but she gets a meal ( pizza type affair). I pay by the half term up front for the 4.30 session then just get billed the extra if she needs the 5.30 session.

Whippetlovely · 30/12/2022 10:17

south east ours is £9 3.15 - 6pm and they have a hot meal. I pay for it through tax free childcare so it’s actually £7.20. Run by the school on the school site. £4.50 til 4.30 with no hot meal.
