Hi,

I have created a new site purely for chilcarers, parents and agencies to advertise jobs and job searches (drives me mad having to pay for an ad on gumtree for everytime I need a new au pair etc!! so thought I would set up a free one) ..can you have a look and see what you think www.nannyneeded.co.uk obviously it only went live today and the advertising for it doesn't start properly for a few weeks. But would welcome opininons and feel free to post vacancies etc.

Thanks
Jenna

I have bookmarked it for later

[Pedant alert]
You might want to amend "add" to "ad" (as in short for advertisement)

These sleeptite courses - are they accredited by anyone? If they are you may want to put it on there, because that's a major selling point.

Great site!

looneytune · 18/01/2008 21:11

It's a FAB site I'm a childminder and would like to advertise on there but it says no website addresses etc. but then there's a section with URL - are we allowed to post website addresses or not?

Thanks

JennaJ · 18/01/2008 21:19

Hiya,

Yes its fine to post web addresses, was not going to allow it but then decided there was no reason why not..then forgot to change the text! See this is why I needed all you lovely mnsnetters to find all my mistakes impossible to look at it objectively yourself!

FRANNIKIN The sleeptite courses aren't yet accredited..hopefully they will be by the time sleeptite launch them..but don't want to put it on yet just incase...

Little miss mac- thanks..still looking for the add to ad ..will change it when I find it lol Thanks

Thanks

thanks jennaj

maximummummy · 18/01/2008 22:12

so jennaj how do we get into site to change our vacancies/wording?

KatyMac · 18/01/2008 22:14

The browser navigation buttons (back arrow) don't work within pages - you might want to change that as it will annoy people

frannikin · 18/01/2008 22:15

Just a thought - I couldn't see a disclaimer about you (the company) not endorsing, recommending or checking childcare offered. Or any advice about personal safety when meeting people off the internet.

That might be a good thing to put on.

cinnamontam · 18/01/2008 22:20

Looks great. I wish it had been running for a while. I'm looking for a nanny at the moment (seeing 2 tomorrow) and this would have been a huge help. Good luck

nannynick · 19/01/2008 00:39

Does the site need to be in a Flash container? The code seems to check if a system has Flash installed, and then insists on using it - when the content of the site would work fine with standard HTML. Any way to force the site to display as text/HTML rather than Flash?

JennaJ · 19/01/2008 08:40

KATY MAC- The browser navigation buttons are working fine on my system...any one else having trouble.

NANNY NICK- no unfortunatly the forums will only display in flash there is no way to force it into html display. Hopefully a minor inconvenience.

CINNAMOMTAM- good luck with the interviews

MAXI- unfortunatly they can only be changed by moderators, as a free site I had to compromised on some of the 'more technical' controls of the site..It could have been all singing if I wanted to pay a fortune for it but then I would have to charge people to post. What you will find is as the site gets busier it will fall off the bottom within a few weeks and you will need to repost..then you can change the content when you re post

FRAN- Yes good point...will slot it in

Thanks so much for all the comments its much appreciated. Expecting the site to be quiet this month as the main advertising doesn't really start for about a month. I will be doing a press release within a few weeks but please keep checking back and sending people there for me . Its so needed within the industry...

Thanks
Jenna

I use Firefox as a browser - lots of people are moving away from MS

nannynick · 19/01/2008 09:31

The Back Button doesn't do what would be normally expected. In main sections (Welcome, Jobs, Work Wanted), the back button functions as expected. But in sub-sections - such as when reading a particular advert, it does not go back to the list of adverts... instead it goes back an entire main section. I also use Firefox, not IE.

I suspect that is a limitation of SiteMaker (the content management software used to create the site), and thus not much can be done.

Good luck with it Jenna. I've had sites like that in the past, but they never were all that viable, financially. Will be interesting to see how your site develops over the coming months.

nannynick · 19/01/2008 09:35

KatyMac - Try the following: View, Page Style, No Style
The site then becomes text only, no Flash... and back button works as expected.

KatyMac · 19/01/2008 09:37

Thanks Nick - is that likely to work on all sites that the back button doesn't work properly on?

JennaJ · 19/01/2008 09:50

Nick-
Thanks...nothing like a techie minded guy..know where to come when I get stuck thanks.

As for being financially viable...it wouldn't normally be and its that simple. Luckily I have a few sponsors (Im guessing its not hard to tell who one of them is from the site content!!) and the other is a sponsor who is funding the advertsising for a year. The hope being that after a year the advertsising being sold on the site will then pay for the maintinence of the site!! Thats the theory any way..

So far it has cost me zero in money..although quite a bot of time in manpower. So nothing to lose really.

It has been suggested that I use a stronger forum..maybe phpbb as a platform..people can have profiles and customisable adds etc...Do you think its necessary or do you think the forums in their current style are viable..or are they just too simple?

Thanks guys
Jenna
