Looking after grandson

I expect to be shot down for this ...

I look after my young grandson once a week so my daughter and son-in-law can work.

I've had to give up a days work to do this, so it has quite a big impact on my monthly income (although that's not the main issue) ...

I'm not particularly well either (although can cope with a desk job).

To be honest, I'm struggling and am relieved on those occasions when my daughter has taken the day off to care
for him if he's been unwell!

I read on here about grandmas who love having their grandchild for the day.

I feel terrible as I don't feel like that but don't want to let my daughter and son-in-law down.

I wonder if there are other grandmas who feel like this?

You need to speak to them OP.

It's lovely that you have him but honestly I find it a little shocking they have allowed you to drop a days work to do this, and they presumably are aware of the health issues?

My husband and I have no help from grandparents, it was never an expectation from either side. I don't think that because they don't help with childcare they don't care about our child, I know they love her very much but also appreciate they have their own lives and have done their time child rearing.

Not to sound harsh, but if they are relying on you taking care of their child one day a week to pay their mortgage their are likely living way beyond their means. 1 day of childcare is generally no more than 60 or 70 pounds, if that.

Time to put your foot down op.
Why should you have to forfeit a days wages to provide them with free childcare? They should have thought about this before having a baby.
What if you became ill or passed away. What's their plan then?
Absolutely ridiculous and i'm sorry you've been put in this position.
