oh yes, we look live whoville here

nannynick · 03/12/2007 07:19

Oh don't talk about advent calendars... I'm expecting a bad day today, as 4-year old I care for will find out at school that other children have chocolate advent calendars, and she doesn't.

Found some lovely nativity scene stickers in a local shop, so will be making xmas cards with the children this week.

shoshaliteupthetree · 03/12/2007 07:22

we have a german wooden tree that stands on a musical box, the box had compartments that have ornaments in them, we take out a ornament a day nd put on the tree, no cheapy choc ones here

MaureenMLovesmincepies · 03/12/2007 07:26

DD hasn't got a chocolate one either. I made her calendar about 6 years ago and fill it every year. I forgot, as usual and when I got it out of the loft, it still had chocolate in it from last year, so I figured she wasn't that bothered! I wrapped up money for each day ranging from 1p to £1. Bless her, there was £1 in 1st December and she thought she was on to a winner. She was down those stairs like a bat out of hell for money yesterday, only to find a penny! What fun we have in out house!

Morning girls

Well I'm one mindee down today - there's something wrong with the lock/alarm/immobiliser on my car so I cant get into the car without the alarm blaring or turn it on . I pick mindee up from home and drop him off (like a fool - I was so desperate at the time to get work). So there's no way for his parents to bring/collect him today so I suppose that means i cant charge them for today as they've gotta find alternative care
Well the car better be fixed by tomorrow cos that's £40 a day I'm losing . And to top it off we're so skint I'm not even sure we can afford to get it fixed . Fingers crossed it wont be a big job!
Wish me luck!

I wasnt gonna get My DS a choc advent. He's got a pocket one which his auntie puts 24 pound coins in so he can buy himself a xmas pressie. But my mother bought him a choc one so now he knows! He's only two though so he wont remember next year

mumlove · 03/12/2007 08:13

Morning all.
Fruitloop - Cars can be apita, when I went out in ours yesterday I noticed the back tyre was a bit flat so waited until DH came home from work and we went out together and I asked him to put some air in it, but when we got to the petrol station I then noticed it had a screw in the tyre so had to get that replaced costing £70.

SweetSnowflake · 03/12/2007 08:19

LoveMyGirls · 03/12/2007 08:26

Morning,

Mindee is full of cold today and dd2 is being a tantrum queen so i think its going to be a fun day here and its not even 9am yet!

I've got all my xmas decs u0p, dd1 said it looks like a social club (she heard dp say it!) it looks fab, it does NOT look like a social club, it's tasteful and colourful and the kids love it so there

Katymac · 03/12/2007 08:27

Morning - mindees tried to empty the advent calendar this am - fortunately I don't put anything in until snack time

Bah Humbug

MaureenMLovesmincepies · 03/12/2007 08:27

Have a nice day SS, I've got to wait til Wednesday for my day off this week.

I'm thinking of getting xmas creative again today! I might go and get some cheap baubles and decorate with glitter glue and glass paints. I've got this urge to hang loads and loads of different coloured & sized baubles from the ceiling!

Ooops! Mum of mindee has just phoned me to say, she forgot to mention this morning that mindee was wide awake at 3am on Saturday, shouting for Eeyore! I feel sorry for mindees dad actually, she couldn't be calmed by either of them, she just wanted Eeyore!

He is so loved here, she is crawling around with a picture of him in her hand now! I wonder why they love him so much? Maybe its the fact that they have a similar mental age! Its driving me nuts though. All the time I'm in the house, they sit at the bottom of the stairs shouting for him and don't shut up, until he comes out of his office to say hello!

I phoned every garage in SW19 I think! none deal with American cars

One said they would but not till Weds and they had someone in a while ago with similar problem and it cost her £2000 they saw her coming didnt they . Car only cost £1600!

Luckily I remembered my old garage when I used to work in Wandsworth who suggested re-setting the alarm. Please oh please say that's all it needs or i'm gonna cry! I'll try it when kids napping - must find manual! They're sooo nice there, said if still not working they'd look at it for me.

Fingers crossed!

One good thing, I managed to go and get a few xmas pressies this morning then took DS and mindee to starbucks for well earned coffee, juice and biscuits

dmo · 03/12/2007 12:18

re advent calendars
my mindees mum has a calendar you fill yourself and she fills it with christmas tree decorations and each day the child puts a new decoration onto the tree

got ds off school today as he feels poorly and i have a cold

spent yesterday at school on the hotdog stall selling hotdogs 11am - 4pm so just catching up with house jobs and ironing as i dont start work till 1pm

BoysAreLikeReindeer · 03/12/2007 12:32

mumlove · 03/12/2007 13:56

SweetSnowflake · 03/12/2007 13:57

LOL at social club, my dp said our playroom looked like a bollywood set last year it was all bright colourful baubles!..mo, all those baubles hanging from cieling looks fab on b&q advert, dp wanted to do it, but couldnt work it out as youd see all the pins and chances are theyd fall and hit mindees and id be in bother with ofsted...

well!, i got all my shopping done this morn!, only things left are mum digi camera and thats not in stock till sat and some chocs for teachers and we cant buy them now..........cos we'll eat them!..am wrapping now before i leave for school run.

ive got some old christmas cards from last year, cut out the pics on the front into shapes and mindees will be fashioning their own cards tonight!..we also saving loo rolls to make snow men

KaySamuels · 03/12/2007 13:57

Hello everyone.

Does anyone else have mindees in the middle of winter with no gloves, hats, scarfs, (sometimes even no jumper)??????
It's driving me mad! There's me and ds all bundled up happy as larry on the school run and the other little mites are miserable as they are all cold! 3yr old mindee cried all way home from school as too cold. And before anyone suggests newsletter I sent one out Friday telling parents they need to send kids in winter gear. What more can I do? I cannot afford to buy them all stuff each to keep at mine! The hourly rate in my area is pitifully low and me and dp really struggling with money at the mo. Just feel so sorry for the kids!!

We are making glittery snow flakes here after school - Imust be crazy!!

MaureenMLovesmincepies · 03/12/2007 14:08

Thats where I got the idea from SS! I just tried to explain it to Kbear, who is on her way to B&Q, but she wasn't getting it!

I save all dd's old gloves etc and keep them in a nice big wicker box in my hall. I also look out for Primark sales too. 50p a pair of gloves can't be bad! Could you suggest that the set they do eventually bring, they leave at your house?

OP posts:
SweetSnowflake · 03/12/2007 14:24

think you need to pull all the parents to one side at collection tonight/write in thier diary or actually tell the parents that thier child was actually crying because they were so cold today and can they make sure they bring jumper, gloves, hat , scarf in morning..nothing like a bit of guilt to kick them up the RS!

i bough mindee cheap pair of gloves last week(75p) his mum was mortified, although she is new and nice, not hardend and with selective hearing like some others

KaySamuels · 03/12/2007 14:26

I got ds's gloves for 20p a pair in summer sale this year! May stock up in Jan sales if can afford it. Yes if they do ever come in any I will hang onto them but I know for certAIN ONE MINDEE oops doesn't own any so that's not gonna work or them all!

I love those baubles from the ceiling too! How do they do it?? Would just look rubbish if i did it I think!
