Primary School Breakfast Club

Jambo93 · 03/04/2019 21:21

Hi, I would be interested to hear:

  • how much you pay for breakfast club
  • is breakfast included
  • what time does it start?

I’m very upset that our primary school has written to all parents to inform us that after Easter (3weeks notice) the cost of breakfast club is increasing from £1.50 to £3!

I should explain that the current club (whilst called a breakfast club) does not provide breakfast. It starts at 8:15. There used to be a reduced rate at 8:30 to £1 however they’ve just informed us that the club will now be £3 flat rate. If they were offering more for the service (such as earlier start or breakfast) I could understand the hike in prices, but they aren’t offering anything. I work part time and pay for club 3 days a week for my children. This will now mean my weekly cost will go from £9 to £18! I am really upset and feel like I have no time to even look for alternatives because it starts straight after Easter. Would be interested to hear what you get and if you have any advice for me, thanks

I don’t have to use it but the breakfast club at school is £3 for 8am - 8:45 - breakfast included.

dustyphoenix · 04/04/2019 07:12

£2 per child, regardless of when you drop them off. Includes standard breakfast food, as well as waffles, pancakes etc. Runs 7am till 8:45am.

Mumof1andacat · 04/04/2019 07:17

5.25 inc breakfast from 0730. Run privately in a sure start centre next to the school

ineedaholidaynow · 04/04/2019 07:23

I would think you would struggle to find any cheaper childcare. I know it is a huge increase in percentage terms, but schools are really struggling finance wise

llangennith · 04/04/2019 07:24

Welsh Government Free Breakfast Clubs in Primary schools. Drop off between 8.10 and 8.30 (no later) and breakfast is compulsory.
Separate privately run 'Out of School Club' between 7.30 and 8.10 which costs £5.50 a day.

MrsCollinssettled · 04/04/2019 07:29

£4 for BSC. Runs from 7.45 breakfast served until 8.20. ASC is £6. Runs until 5.45 and includes toast and jam. External company but on school site. I get childcare vouchers from my employers so there is a tax saving.

DharmaInitiativeLady · 04/04/2019 07:29

Wow I don't know where you live but breakfast club is £9.50 where I live. Breakfast included though

bakingisnotforwimps · 04/04/2019 07:33

£1:45, breakfast included, 8:15-8:45

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 04/04/2019 07:59

£3.50, 7.45 until the start of school, which I think is 8.50. Breakfast included. It can be anything from toast/cereal to beans, waffles, pancakes. We have to be at work before 9 and DD doesn't like to eat too soon after waking up, so it works for us on both counts. If it wasn't available we'd have to use a childminder, which would cost more.

Jambo93 · 04/04/2019 08:06

Great, thanks for all the comments. Sounds like a lot of people think the increase from £1.50 to £3 with 3 weeks notice is reasonable, just wanted to point out that it starts at 8:15, so not the most convenient for working parents. If it was £3 and started at 7:45 like a lot of you have mentioned AND provided breakfast, I’d feel like it was VFM...but unfortunately it starts later and there’s no food!

I’m not even that fussed on whether it serves food, as my kids have breakfast as soon as they get up at 7am, so I’d never make them wait until breakfast club (I wouldn’t cope with the whining)...

£5 including breakfast, from 7.45. After school club is £5 an hour till 5.30, includes tea. We use tax free childcare to pay for it so actual cost to us is less. The overall expenditure on childcare is so cheap compared to when he was at nursery, I think it's fine.

GrumbleBumble · 04/04/2019 08:26

After school is £4 per hour so until 4.15 is £4, until 5.15 is £8 and until 6.00 is £12 (the last session includes a sandwich)

Invisimamma · 04/04/2019 08:31

Ours opens 8am, £5 for the hour, includes toast, fruit and cereal.

They have capacity for 40 children. Our school roll is 450 so you are very lucky if you can get a space. Waiting list is 3years.

Myusernameismud · 04/04/2019 08:34

I feel very lucky because DS is pupil premium so breakfast club is free for us. It runs from 8-8.40 and he gets toast and/or cereal and milk or juice to drink.

Zebrasinpyjamas · 04/04/2019 08:52

Ours is £5 but from 7.45am and includes cereal and toast.

itbemay · 04/04/2019 09:00

We used to pay £5 from 7.45 - 8.50 including breakfast, toast, cereal, fruit etc. Afterschool was £8 from 3.20 - 6pm.

I think if enough of you raise concerns the head teacher or whoever runs it will have to take a look, it seems a lot to pay without breakfast.

ShabbyAbby · 04/04/2019 09:04

£3.50 starts at 7.30am (breakfast included)
£9 after school until 6pm (Packed dinner)

I am very happy with those prices but pay £55 a day (£45 with funded hours) for them until they are old enough for school otherwise, so wrap around care is very good value for money

IggyAce · 04/04/2019 09:07

Our school opens at 8:30am and provide a breakfast to every child at no additional cost.
They do also offer a breakfast club run by a 3rd party which is £2 or £2.50 per day from 7:30am (I think) the kids get breakfast and do 30 minutes of exercise.

HouseOfToys · 04/04/2019 09:27

£4.35 from 7.45am
£3.50 from 8.00am

Breakfast is included.
School starts at 8.50am.

Privately run on the school grounds.

Cushellekoala · 04/04/2019 09:31

Ours starts at 7.30 and is £5.50 (7.30-8.45) i think they do cereal and toast but DS prefers to eat breakfast before he goes. I can't understand how a brealfast club would operate (and pay staff) if it only cost £1??

tablelegs · 04/04/2019 11:45

£5.50 for 8am - 9am. Can't get a space and they've closed the waiting list.

Patchworksack · 04/04/2019 11:49

£3 from 7.30am or £1.50 after 8 o'clock, doesn't include breakfast but food is available and very cheap (10p for a slice of toast, 30p for cereal etc)

Patchworksack · 04/04/2019 11:51

And three days a week they all have to do the Daily Mile before school. Bonus!

Blahdeblahbahhhhh · 04/04/2019 16:10

£3 from 7.50 including breakfast
