Primary School Breakfast Club

Hi, I would be interested to hear:

  • how much you pay for breakfast club
  • is breakfast included
  • what time does it start?

I’m very upset that our primary school has written to all parents to inform us that after Easter (3weeks notice) the cost of breakfast club is increasing from £1.50 to £3!

I should explain that the current club (whilst called a breakfast club) does not provide breakfast. It starts at 8:15. There used to be a reduced rate at 8:30 to £1 however they’ve just informed us that the club will now be £3 flat rate. If they were offering more for the service (such as earlier start or breakfast) I could understand the hike in prices, but they aren’t offering anything. I work part time and pay for club 3 days a week for my children. This will now mean my weekly cost will go from £9 to £18! I am really upset and feel like I have no time to even look for alternatives because it starts straight after Easter. Would be interested to hear what you get and if you have any advice for me, thanks

£5.45 7:45 - 8:55 breakfast inc run by a private company on school grounds.
Have to pay termly

Jambo93 · 03/04/2019 21:41

I should also point out that they don’t give you an invoice, it’s a queue up and pay cash at each session. Or I like to pay for the week and she adds that info to the register...

Ours is called before school club, it doesn't serve breakfast. I pay £3.50 for 8.00-8.50 but you can also pay £1.75 to drop at 8.30. Prices rising by 20p per session in September.

Hamsterdancer · 03/04/2019 21:42

£2.80

pinchandapunch · 03/04/2019 21:43

It's free and starts at 8am breakfast included.

The secondary my eldest attends also gives a free breakfast every morning. Both schools are an academy.

Pandasarecute · 03/04/2019 21:44

£4 from 7.45 - 8.45, good selection of food, or £1 from 8.30 - 8.45 , no breakfast

georgie262 · 03/04/2019 21:44

I can't believe these prices. I feel totally ripped off. In addition to before school being £6 after school club is flat rate £9 til 6pm

GrumbleBumble · 03/04/2019 21:44

£4 includes breakfast runs from 7.30 must have kids there by 8 if they are having breakfast. No discount if they don't need breakfast.

megletthesecond · 03/04/2019 21:45

£3.70 from 7:40 to 8:40. Includes breakfast.

twolittleboysonetiredmum · 03/04/2019 21:45

Ours starts at 7:45 and it’s £3 flat rate until 8:45 whenever you turn up: kids get breakfast if there before 8:30. It’s gone up gradually over the last 5 years due to more kids/more staff needed and an increase in running costs. Having paid through the nose for three kids at nursery for years, I don’t think £3 for an hours care is too bad. With or without food. If you’ll find the rise that much of a struggle, are you eligible for fsm as ours get it free if so?

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 03/04/2019 21:46

£2.50 from 8am or £1.50 from 8.15am. But it is strictly a before school club with no breakfast provided.

duckduckgoose2 · 03/04/2019 21:47

Ha georgie we can’t find an ASC for less than a £13-£14 flat rate - the breakfast club is cheaper as it’s new. Raise concerns to the school if they run it?

Soontobe60 · 03/04/2019 21:48

I'm sorry, but I can't believe you think £3 for 45 mins childcare is expensive!
There will be 2 staff on duty who need to be paid, plus overheads. A childminder would charge way more than that.

JassyRadlett · 03/04/2019 21:48

I can't believe these prices. I feel totally ripped off. In addition to before school being £6 after school club is flat rate £9 til 6pm

Can I help you feel better? Breakfast club is £7 (7.45-8.40) and after school is £16.50.

Breakfast at breakfast club is cereals and fruit but my delightful child insists on having breakfast at home so I’m not even saving on Weetabix.

SoyDora · 03/04/2019 21:49

£5.50 flat rate, 7.45-8.45. Cereal and toast included.

CamdenTownie · 03/04/2019 21:49

Ours is £1 per child from 7:45 includes breakfast of toast, cereals, fresh fruit and milk or juice.

My daughter has been going since reception and she's now in year 6 - it used to be free and when they started charging parents were furious!

SoyDora · 03/04/2019 21:49

Our after school club is £13.50

Msgiggles30 · 03/04/2019 21:49

Woah shocked at this with no breakfast! Most schools where I am have free breakfast club (Wales). My school breakfast club starts at 8am and includes breakfast. It is free, around 150 children come! Think it is more likely to be free in areas with high amounts of free school meals though

Mummyshark2018 · 03/04/2019 21:52

£2 includes breakfast from 7.45-8.55

AllStar14 · 03/04/2019 21:57

£4.50 from 7:45-8:30. No breakfast. Rip off (because of the no breakfast) but I have no choice!

AllStar14 · 03/04/2019 21:59

And it has to be booked and paid for a term at a time.

NoSquirrels · 03/04/2019 21:59

£2.50, 7.45-8.45, breakfast included (cereals plus choice of changing ‘menu’ e.g. muffins, sausage sarnie etc). Bargain compared to some here!

MrsBlondie · 03/04/2019 22:01

£5 here and includes food.
From 7.30am onwards.

MrsBlondie · 03/04/2019 22:03

I cant believe how little some of you pay! Ours is £9 for after school.

Jambo93 · 03/04/2019 22:07

Soontobe60 I think the sudden increase as opposed to gradual increase is an issue, the club is always packed 50+ kids so that would cover the cost of 4 supervisors and it’s in the dining hall. I feel like the school is looking to make some money/profit from the club
