How much would as a childminder would you expect for a childminding a small toddler for 11hours.
I know everyone has different prices but just curious as to what is the average 'norm'

£42 for 8-5:30
£6 an hour for unsociable hours. So £9 + £42 = £51.

My childminder charges £4.50/ hr - that’s average around here - Central Scotland.

It’s £40.50 per day 8-6 , and £5 a week for 7-8 whether you use the 7-8 just one day or all week.

It seems like we are being overcharged just because we are in London. £10 is the minimum.

We pay £4.50 an hour. That’s with an outstanding childminder (she has a waiting list and needs to turn parents away) and including snacks and meals

£3.50 seems a bit low but I wouldn’t know the average for Scotland. Are you not in contact with any local childminders.

You could pay a nanny £10 an hour. I know there is tax ,pension on top but still.

£3.50 does seem low. Maybe you should research and try to find other childminder's rates for your area.

No, I've only recently started out. I think maybe I'm selling my service short! I am including meals/snacks, too.

Well that's the problem right now, if you go back to work then your wages are purely for childcare. There are a few schemes in place for people who are on a low wage, they get 15 hours for free a week or a possible 30 depending on your wage/partner. However if you don't fall in that bracket then you have to suck it up and hand most of your wages over!

I really wouldn’t - word will get out that you’ve offered one rate but then put it up very quickly. I’d stick with a rate for at least a year but maybe consider a different rate for the next child you take on?

Littlemiss do you not have a contract? I’d have thought I’d you’ve both signed a contract giving notice periods and rates, how you cover holiday pay etc you’ll be bound to that. If you don’t have a contract - bloody well get one! You need all of this spelled out in black and white or you’ll end up out of pocket left right and centre.

You can up your rate for new clients and do a contract review in say 6 months if your rate is low in the area.
£10 an hour is unusual but then so is the cost of housing in central London so they are not as well off as other areas charging £5, My area of London is £5 and we really notice that when we go away to visit family in Yorkshire there are a lot more newer cars and everyone seems to have much more disposable income,
