I've never been called to do it and dread the whole thought of it and would do ANYTHING to get out of it! Glad yours isn't happening until December now

PinkChick · 21/06/2007 10:47

saltire, can you help out at your lo's schools while youre waiting for ofsted to pull thier finger out?, it will prob be voluntary, but may be good to get out and may help your lo's settle too???

MaureenMLove · 21/06/2007 10:49

I knew it was you! I spotted the thread where you forgot to change your name!! Good luck with that. Howz LMG doing, when will she be back online? Damn, I've just asked another question and I really must get on with painting the ceiling! DH is working from home today, so he'll come and check that I'm doing it!

crace · 21/06/2007 10:51

I am American! I have no idea where anything is in this country.. still learning - been some places in SE England, Cornwall and through a bunch of places on way to Cumbria - but that's about it. Still no idea! What can I say.. I am sheltered!

crace · 21/06/2007 10:53

LT - good news - good luck with the baby thing

Shoshable · 21/06/2007 10:53

Crace do you know where Dorset is

crace · 21/06/2007 10:53

PS - I know where Hampshire is now - I am going to a wedding in Hayling Island (sp) in July, and I know it's near Portsmouth, or have I got that wrong?

saltire · 21/06/2007 10:55

Yes - got it right.

madge7 · 21/06/2007 11:13

Morning Everyone, hope your all OK?!

Saltire, I am right by you? In Quarters in Gosport (no comment please!). I agree that this is a very different place to get used to, it took me forever, but we have been down here nearly 14 years and its so tough being away from family too!

I'll meet up with you if you want?
I wont be offended if you dont fancy it?

I am thinking of Jacking in childminding seriously now though to be fair, I am fed up with parents "suggesting" things I could do with thier kids, when all we have is fun fun fun all the time, it would be OK if I was a nanny on 30k, but I'm not and I cant be doing with it all anymore, I adore the kids, I think its the parents I struggle with? I dont know?

But yes, have you been to gunwharf saltire or whitely or something? Could meet you for a starbucks or something?

Anyway, dont worry if not, but cheer up chuck, were all your mates on here, you know that!

M X

mumlove · 21/06/2007 11:26

Morning,
What has everybody been doing for childminding week?
My childminding group has been to the local playpark this morning (great I have no mindees today), I did go for 30mins after I had got some shopping and should now be cleaning the bathroom, but the kettle turned on so having a coffee first.

saltire glad to see that you have made it down to the south coast, enjoy the peace while you can get it.

MaureenMLove · 21/06/2007 11:28

Yes, you're right Crace, Hayling Island is down there! Its where people from up here have caravans sometimes and we refer to it as 'alin island, coz we're common up 'ere!

MaureenMLove · 21/06/2007 11:31

I'm painting today ML. No mindees so I offered to paint the ceiling and walls of our new extension. Aparently the first coat on top of new plaster is called a 'miscoat' {yawn} Just get the damn paint up I say! The gaffer (dh) has been down from his office to check that I'm doing it right! Complained that I got it all over the cooker hood! I did point out that when he did his bit he got it all over the windows, but that didn't count! Wish I'd never offered now!

mumlove · 21/06/2007 11:34

don't we do lots of fun things on the days we don't work!!!

I MUST now go and clean the bathroom, before starting on the lounge.

looneytune · 21/06/2007 11:44

MML - I know you won't be here right now as you must finally be painting by now - right eh?! Oh yeah, forgot i slipped up with the name hehe. LMG's was great on Sunday when i texted, she was at Alton Towers with family and said the house was great. I'm off on holiday on Monday for 2 weeks so hopefully she'll be back by the time I get home!

Crace - thanks, I'm so excited about finally trying for another one. Hubby is 46 now and very early menopause runs in my family (like 20's/early 30's) so I just can't leave it any longer!

So far..........touch wood...............my nightmare baby is being a darling!!!

crace · 21/06/2007 11:53

Ooooh LT - where you going on holiday? I have severe envy even though we have barely been back. A week is simply not enough time off.

MML - yes the miscoat... that's the paint wash, where it's more water than paint so the paint sticks BLAH BLAH BLAH - we did that last summer. Such a boring job and I make a right ole mess of it.

DH is gone this weekend until mid next week - this weekend for a stag do and then off to Stockholm for a work conference. And bless him he's actually going to "miss" us. Yeah right I sooo believe that!

looneytune · 21/06/2007 12:06

Hi Crace - we're off to Majorca and we can't wait!! Ds has no idea what a proper holiday is all about and in the 11 years I've been with dh, this will be the 2nd time we've gone abroad (in fact 2nd holiday full stop if you don't count the disaster we had last year - AWFUL, I cried and cried ) - last time was 6 years ago when we got married but it was disney etc in America and no sunbathing on beaches - in fact, we never visited a beach I soooooooo want to lie in the sun. I get really down in the winter and the sun cheers me up but now I need PROPER holiday sun! Then back home and trying for baby (slightly giddy there )

MaureenMLove · 21/06/2007 12:47

I've finished. Well to my standards anyway! Whether it will be good enough for his nibbs remains to be seen! I managed to get paint everywhere. In my hair, my face and I accidently stepped in the paint tray too! Good job it is 50/50 paint and water! Trouble is because the room is completely empty, we don't have to be too careful where we put things down, so I stepped back into it from doing the ceiling! I really need it done today, the handle of the roller is my broom handle and the kitchen floor is 'minging!'

looneytune · 21/06/2007 13:54

Oh dear MML, hope it comes out ok. When I first started childminding my dh decorated the lounge when I had no mindees for a couple of days and he spilt a very large tub of basecoat - it slipped off the ladder and landed on the floor and although he'd covered a lot up, he managed to wreck the carpet as it was a HUGE amount, it got on our lovely sofa (that wasn't too bad though) and over the toy draws etc so some toys had to be thrown and well, what a mess! At least yours is 50/50 paint/water as you said! Imagine if it wasn't!

I'm sooo chuffed but daren't say............oh, shall i.........please god, don't make it awful just because I'm saying this [prays hard]............baby has been GREAT so far today AND......AND.......AND.....GUESS WHAT.......you know I had a word with her dad on Friday about this rocking business etc and how it can't carry on like this.....well.....they've been working on sort of controlled crying and I put her down for a nap at 1.30 and she only cried for about 7 mins before she was asleep!!! I'm so glad I talked to them about all this. They are happier, we all agree that all her problems with major crying is due to being over-tired (like I'd been telling them) and struggling to get HERSELF to sleep. If this stays like this then we've cracked it at last!! I know she won't stay asleep for more than half hour most of the time but if she gets these cat naps, she will feel better for one

Oh...woken up! Oh well, she had about 20 mins which is better than nothing but i'm going to try and see if she goes back to sleep. 20 mins isn't long enough for a 4 month olds afternoon nap!

MaureenMLove · 21/06/2007 14:31

Is it my pc or yours that isn't making sense! The second paragraph is full of all sorts of random letters & characters! I think I got the drift tho!
I've made nice foot prints on the carpet, but it doesn't matter. Just got changed to collect mindees from school and I've got a massive lump of paint in my hair and on my eyelash! I'll have to put a baseball cap & sunglasses on, haven't got time to do anything about it!

looneytune · 21/06/2007 15:12

Did you spill paint on the pc??? It makes sense to me

looneytune · 21/06/2007 15:27

I wonder if it's something to do with me using lots of full stops? I'll do that again below and you can tell us if it looks funny again:

..........

saltire · 21/06/2007 15:35

Madge, that's really nice of you thanks. Can you CAT me your email address or phone number then I can contact you. Don't know the area at all, and don't have car, so until I find out bus /train times am a bit stuck

MaureenMLove · 21/06/2007 17:25

Its the weirdest thing. I've just come back after an afternoon in the park with schoolies and logged back into mn and your post is perfect now LT! How odd! Maybe it was the paint in my eyes!

looneytune · 21/06/2007 17:36

I knew it would have something to do with paint!!!

mumlove · 21/06/2007 18:06

I think it was mumsnet as I had the troulbe reading the post to! but it's ok now.
