Pootling on

Very depressed but life just goes on

mumlove · 07/06/2007 08:18

It can't be morning already, my body still wants to sleep.

LMG, all your hard work will pay off and your new house will look lovely, we will all have to come for tea!

Katy How are you feeling today?

Must get motivated and take DD to school before starting my list of jobs to do, have a great day everyone.

mumlove · 07/06/2007 08:19

Now I can't even type fast enough!!

Shoshable · 07/06/2007 08:30

Mumlove we are off to Honeybrook today, any chance you can come?

And Good Morning Everybody

Katy, hope you feel better soon.

LMG are you still connected!

Earthymama · 07/06/2007 08:48

Morning everyone!
Hope thatyou all have a good day, and that a little bit of real and mood boosting sunshine comes your way. I think this is a hard job if you don't feel well, in any sense, as it so much draws on your inner resources.

I'm going to have to shift myself to start advertising. I've been coasting and not really working enough hours so DP and I have 'HAD A TALK'!

So I'm going to do a planning and marketing strategy (though to be honest I want to go to the allotment!!) Wish me luck!

Just off to set up train set and farm for first mindee!

FeelingOld · 07/06/2007 09:50

Morning everyone, don't usually have time to come into the staff room but one of my mindees is off ill, one doesn't come til 11.30 and the other one is fast asleep cos he was up at 5.30 this morning.
I put the computer on to type up the minutes from out childminder group meeting the other night but managed to stray onto MN, should really get back to the minutes but think I may have a cuppa and stay on MN instead

Hope you are all feeling better soon, just remember its friday tomorrow, nearly the weekend

lunavix · 07/06/2007 09:55

Hi everyone!

Well i've had parents+propspective mindee round today and they are very keen!!! We've arranging a playdate and she says she'd like both her children to start here I feel very chuffed, I haven't had an under 5 mindee since the one I had as a short-term emergency contract shortly after I had dd, so I haven't had any proper under 5s since the start of July!

Stupidly I negotiated my own rate down!!!They thought I was dearer than I was and I was like 'god no!' so I showed them my current rates which they were pleased at and then knocked 10p off per child (siblings) so they were even happier lol. I'm my own worst enemy sometimes! I'd feel bad if I did it otherwise though, and hopefully they'll remember this when it comes to a (tiny) fee increase in April

Although first I need to phone them.. I've realised that the first three days on the first week they want me I'm on holiday I didn't realise until a CM friend just mentioned it. I hope we can arrange something because the children are lovely and so are the parents!

fifilou · 07/06/2007 09:59

hug needed!

anyone in for me to moan to?

had an awful 24hrs

FeelingOld · 07/06/2007 10:07

Oh dear fifilou, whats happened?

fifilou · 07/06/2007 10:09

ok then I'll moan to myself.

so anyway, as you know on mon i worked til stupid o'clock and have been helping out with cleaning and extra bits (cleaners away for a month) and havent complained to my bosses at all
and have even offered to take on the cleaning as a way of helping out my very stressed mum boss.

so, I'm contracted to do 2 nights a month babysit included in my salary, and if its over 11pm, I get paid, so I worked until gone 12 and didnt get paid, and on tues I wrote in the diary this: (exactly word for word)

Hi!

'Im sorry i have to ask, but on monday i worked until gone 12, and as we had agreed that after 11pm I get paid, is it possible for me to be paid? I know its only a tenner, but its all great towards my hol fund! many Thanks!'

So anyway, this morning (shes only obviously read the diary last night) shes in a mood, i can tell this becuse shes looking cross and huffing.

She says to me really horrid 'your money is in the diary, i wouldnt forget to pay you, i wish you werent so sensitive' and shes all upset. she goes on saying shes working so late and shes tired, and i hug her and then i start crying too yes, because I'm too sensitive) and she just stands cold. It ends with her asking me to do a job for her and she leaves.

I'm then left crying thinking im a stupid cow for sking for ten pounds.

so......as i said...hug needed please. oh I'm so sad. I'm fed up. I'm just so down.

FeelingOld · 07/06/2007 10:16

Poor you
I hate dealing with the money side of things, if someone is late paying me I never apply the late payment charge, remind them or anything cos I feel it makes me look money grabbing but it is my income and if my mindees parents bosses came to them and told them 'oh by the way you will be 5 days late getting your pay this month' you can imagine the reaction can't you.
Asking for money is hard but you did the right thing cos the longer it goes on the harder it gets. If you are entitled to the money then I don't see the problem, it doesn't make you too sensitive and you should not feel guilty.

fifilou · 07/06/2007 10:18

i do feel a bit better at having just ranted on a bit though.

I also tidied and cleaned all downstairs in a bid to make myself feel better this morning for them (thats borderline OCD isnt it?!)

now i have to hunt a missing blazer, go buy some sports socks and t shirts for sports day, do a food shop for them as there is NOTHING in and ive got 6 for tea.

and people think working with children is easy?!!!

bla!!!!!!!!!!

fifilou · 07/06/2007 10:20

thankyou feelingold, youve made me feel better............ want a slice of chocolate cake?

I made one yesterday.........its yum!(sticks to the hips though, but hey with all the smock tops out they hide our sins!)

FeelingOld · 07/06/2007 10:47

I would love a piece of choc cake, if only we lived nearer to each other and I am past caring about my hips!!

Glad you feel a bit better, hope your day improves.

fifilou · 07/06/2007 10:49

thanks lots..............

am off now to do my jobs, and smile my way through the day!

here..have a virtual piece............ xx

crace · 07/06/2007 10:56

chocolate cake? Pass it here!

Fifilou- money issues are awful, aren't they? I am no good at it myself, but the thing is you needed to do it. If you let it slide one time, it may happen again and you will just feel worse. I am sure mum was just having a bad day, you said she was stressed. Poor you, hang in there.

busy day 'round here but fun. Already done bubbles, make bread (in machine of course lol), play cricket and skipping rope in the garden, watered the plants and had snack. All with nearly 3 yo mindee, mindee1 who is now napping, and dd. Good fun. Off to colour now! 2 yo mindee is here until 3pm today so will be busy with her so might not have time to pop on til this pm. Hope all ok!

Oh, the BEST news of all - signing up that baby I saw two weeks ago for a Sept 1st start so fills up my 2nd under 5! Woohoo

(Congrats on your new start Luna, and good luck today with interview LMG)

MaureenMLove · 07/06/2007 12:18

Hi all!
Hope you're all having a good day.
Is it defo that you can't have your barn Katy or are you just not sure yet?
Fifi, you have to nip these money things in the bud, otherwise she'll do it again and you'll end up not bothering to ask at all. Its done now and I'm sure she'll be fine when she gets in.
LMG I don't think much of your internet provider! I hope it doesn't take them as long to re-connect you when the time comes! Seems the new lady is really keen, so that's good news to take you into your new house.
Luna I'm a soft touch too. I've got some wonderful mums though. I put my rates up in April too, but one of my mums got a rise in her tax credits and insisted that I had half of it! I told her to spend it on her kids until April and she flatly refused! How cool is that?

Got other things to share, but I find reading long threads boring tbh, so I'll tell you later!

PinkChick · 07/06/2007 12:30

Hi All, on the money side, one parent was due to collect his dd last week at 5.30 (which was paid for) but he said he would pick her up at 5 instead as he would be finidhing early to pick repaired car up...rang me at 5.15 to say he was going to be late and turned up at 6pm..half an hour after his paid hours...do i charge him 1/2 and hour extra or for the full hour?, tbh i think 1/2 hour is best, but feel(stupidly) nervous about asking him for extra £2!

mumlove · 07/06/2007 12:31

Shosha I would have loved to have come to honeybrook with you but I don't have any mindees on a thursday and I also needed to go to the bank, get some fresh food and am now in the middle of cleaning my lounge (what fun). Hopefully we can do it another day.

fifilou You can come on here and rant as much as you like, we are all here to listen and to have a moan as well. What would we do without mumsnet.

crace · 07/06/2007 12:33

PC - I usually charge for the full amount in 1/4 hours rounded. Go for the .75 hours

looneytune · 07/06/2007 12:35

Hi everyone

No time to read all messages, just wanted to pop in and say hi whilst I wait for the kettle to boil

[waves at Lunavix] - was chatting to my friend at toddler group - she thinks you're lovely and said you've been very helpful. Think it takes away that scary feeling of moving to a new area

LoveMyGirls · 07/06/2007 13:00

Hi everyone yes i'm still here! We're changing internet providers MML so i'm actually quite chuffed to still have it tbh, we needed to give a months notice which we have done so im not worried.

OP posts:
PinkChick · 07/06/2007 13:36

crace do you mean hourly rate or75% of it for every 15 mins late?
