From a parents point of view please.... PAYING your nanny!

Ok just wondering views on this!
Ive been in my job 6 months now and its perfect and i LOVE it in everyway. my bosses are great and its 3 mins from my home! ALL perfect EXCEPT they still havant paid me for february!
Also since starting there in september i have never been paid on time! been paid on 16th twice, 9th once 19th once and 4th once, and its now the 25th and i STILL havent been paid!
Until this month EVERY time it REALLY WAS the banks fault! (im always 'good' and reasonable about it and just say dont worry, boss goes to bank, 'sorts' it and a week later moeny finally has left his account hung around in 'no-where-land' for a few days and arrived in My account.
BUT its now getting rediculouse.
To be fair this month i didnt mention it to my boss until 9th march BUT I WAS AWAY ON HOLIDAY so didnt have much chance (and surely its clear on their bank anyway?)
He (convinced it was the banks fault again) didnt actually even GO to the bank for a whole week but he went demanding they pay me THAT DAY but (for the 1st time it WAS actually HIS fault, he hadnt ticked a box or something). Anyway im really not worried that he made a mistake, he is after all only a person and we all make mistakes sometimes! it was apparently sorted last friday so £ should have made it into my account of thursday...
BUT they didnt so its now banks fault again. I didnt find out until i got home on thursday night and on Friday morning my boss left as i walked in and i didnt see them until 6pm ie after banks closed.
Im now getting REALLY REALLY frustrated... I have NEVER been paid later EVER in any other job ever before (been working as a nanny for over 7 years now!)
I figure after 6 months its really SHOULD be sorted right now shouldnt it? We both have internet banking after all and its 2007!
My mum thinks i should demand a chapps payment which will cost my bosses £30 when i go to work on tuesday (i dont work mondays)... is this fair? (i think so!)
My step dad thinks i shouldnt go in to work until im paid , but a) that is VERY unproffesional (and thats not how i am.... surely if i refused to go to work they would then refuse to pay me?)
b) its now the holidays and we have lots of exciting things planned that I am looking forward to!
c) if i dont go to work sick people eitehr dont have operations (if mb is at home) or dont have a GP to see for their appointments (if db is at home!)
BUT i have a mortgage etc to pay as well and i CANT AFFORD to not be paid much longer.
so if you were my boss what would u do? If i said go to bank now and pay me by chapps would you consider that unreasonable?
Also what about all the interest i havent earned on not having my money for a whole month?
so far in 6 months ive been paid 87 days late and counting

Its also worth noting (i went to my bank today to ask what i would have been chrged had if i have been overdrawn)

i would have been 14 x £39 for each direct debit = £546

and 3 other transactions out at 3 x £28 = £84

• an interest fee of about £20 by the time id also paid interest on the fees above.

which means i would have had to pay £650 in fees SO FAR (more direct debits come out tomo / wed)

I think you should explain to your boss what could have happened. Let him know you have been very patient and that you can not afford such fees.

(if it was my company doing this to me, I would most certainly explain to my boss the possiible consequences and say it was unacceptable)

I think you should let them know that this amount will be paid by them if you go overdrawn. Do not let fob you off about getting an overdraft.

We had trouble getting payments to our nanny on time when we were in the process of claiming the tax credit. But we ALWAYS took the £30 hit and paid by chaps; till the final month when the application went through and our nanny got paid twice... They really have to pay you and I think the comment about giving them time to sort it out and then feeling obliged to look for another job was a good one. Good luck tomorrow.

i think they know that im never likely to find such a perfect job (for me) just 3 mins away from my house!

Yes i can look (in fact i always "look" around for jobs anyway!!!)

was hoping to be with this family for another 3.5 years minimum yet!

nannyl - a particular nanny-using parent view on your point that the job is ideal for you - remember that that equates with perfect for them too. it's the star prize in employing a nanny - to have found one you think is great - who thinks your job and you are great too. the vast majority of people employing a nanny put an awful lot of thought into it - and the likelihood of the nanny liking the job and staying put for a considerable period of time comes pretty high on your check-list. they won;t want to risk loosing you. it's the worst think about using nannies - you agonise over your decision, you pray it's the right one, and you pray it'll last so as to minimise upheaval for your kids. they haven't got you over a barrel - it's a 2-way thing. believe me.

You're not over a barrel at all, you just need to make it clear the pay issue has to be sorted!

There are more jobs around than good Nannies!

I'm sure someone has mentioned this, as haven't had time to read all the posts, but you don't have to ask for the cash. If your boss has online banking (which you said he does) then he can simply do a money transfer to your account. Done.

well yes I was paid today

and my march pay has (apprently) already left their account so looks like i may actually be paid on time in april

I spoke to my mummy boss and she was very very very sorry and shocked and said its unacceptable etc!

fingers crossed its all sorted now etc

I love the way you call them "mummy boss" and "daddy boss" Aww! Glad you got your money.

LOL Me (and most of my nanny friends) refer to our bosses as mummy boss (mb) and daddy boss (db) (unless of course we are using their names!)
