How much would expect to be paid for this?

Met a lovely family last week with 3 young children (eldest 3). They have offered me some babysitting work (I am a nanny). This will be very occasional, perhaps the odd evening here and there, however there will be the odd time they would want me overnight, so from about 7:30 (kids already in bed) until maybe 8am the next day.

How much would you expect for those hours? Bearing in mind the kids would be asleep (and are likely to sleep through). I want to get some opinions as I am not sure whether what she is offering is quit low. Thanks.

Never used overnight childcare, but presuming I was off the premises and you were looking after DC, I would expect to be charged an hourly rate. You are essentially on call for the DC.

For over nights most nannies charge their normal rate up until 10/11pm then a set rate for over night anything from £30-50 roughly. Then charge again from when the children wake up. The over night is a rough price. But also depends if there is a child who wakes through out the night then you may want to do a hourly rate though out the night or a rounded up price.

I think for a 12 hour night shift I would offer £50 if they sleep through. But I have no idea what going rates are as never needed this service. - I presume you'll be given a bed to sleep in and not expected to be up and about?

Can I pick your brains - what is a reasonable amount to pay a nanny (gross) to look after three children (eldest three) during working hours of 8-6pm? Need to increase our current nanny's pay and don't know what is a reasonable to pay to look after three young kids? We live in yorkshire (i.e. not london rates!)

Thanks for all the input guys. I was being offered £25 for the night. In my nanny job I am paid my hourly rate until 10pm then an overnight of £30 until 6 am. So it seemed a bit low for me.

That seems very low to me. I pay my babysitter £5ph (and she is a childminder by day).

£25 is ridiculously low - you should be paid at least that for a 7:30-10:30 evening's babysitting.

Charge your normal hourly rate for evenings where you're going home afterwards, time-and-a-half after midnight. When you're staying overnight, it should be normal rate up until you'd expect to go to bed yourself, then half rate thereafter, but with the understanding that it whacks back up to normal rates if the kids are awake, and obviously anything you do in the morning is back to normal rate.
£25 is having a laugh, seriously.

I'd say its your hourly rate till 11 or 10 plus a night time charge of 35 to 50. Then your hourly rate starts again at 7

I recon you should get about £60 minimum and £85 maximum. If the kids are up at 6am then £70

I would also expect you to be ironing and doing jobs till 10pm. Otherwise you'd be on a babysitting, not nannying rate of about £5 an hour during the evening (so £12.50) plus a £30 (minimum) for the night, plus £9 for an hours work between 7am and 8am. So just over £50 total

£25 would be ok for a late evening babysitting. I would expect to pay at least double that for overmight care for my 2 DC's.

Saying that you said 3 and eldest is 3 - so you have 3 ,3 and under. Is that right? So def a baby there

So like night nannying and when I do this I charge per hour every hour through out night as I'm the one who gets up to baby

My babysitting rate is the same as my hourly daily rate. It is still my time and I certainly wouldn't be ironing for anyone !!!!

I would say normal rate 7pm-11pm. £50 between 11pm and 7am, then normal rate again. However if children wake early or baby in house I would say charge per hour

I'm in London. If we need someone overnight we do the above. £15 per hour until 11pm, £50 11pm-7am, then £15 again per hour. We have x2 children, ages 3 and 4.

Pelican can you explain your babysitting rate of £5 per hour? That's below the minimum wage for an adult.

Blondes pay attention silly!! I'd only pay nanny hourly wage (£9 ph) if nanny was working (ironing) as the children are in bed. If nanny isn't doing chores, I'd offer the standard babysitting rate - how ever much that is.

All our babysitters are 15 though - so no idea what the basic babysitting rate is for an adult

I would say a minimum of £70

I charge my usual rate until 8.30pm (£9) assuming thats bedtime, then 75 from 8.30-7am then back to normal rate.
