Extra pay for playdates

Nanny has asked for extra pay for playdates from the other mother. I won't be there as I work FT, neither is the other mother. I have 1 DS. It's not in the contract as it hasn't come up before as we have playdates on the weekend when I am around. Nanny has asked for 70% extra on her hourly rate, which I will pay as I would never ask the other mother to pay so her DS can come over for a playdate. What do other nannies do? I can see nanny's POV as it is an extra child.

Also if my DS goes to a playdate elsewhere do I pay my nanny to stay at home? Nanny would prefer not socialising as she is shy and awkward with adults and has no nanny friends so cannot set up playdates herself.

"She would prefer no playdates,"

Nope, she needs to understand what the full role of a nanny entails, which includes some playdates for the important reasons that others have already mentioned, she can't 'opt out' of the bits she's not sure about when they are important. She needs to consider whether the job suits here.

wow!!!! I am a many of 3 and i am always on playmates, every day in fact, both houses, its great for the kids and great for the nanny... I have 9 kids (including my 3) and 2 nannies around for tea at least once a week and the kiddies love it.. having 9 under 5's in crazy but so much fun.....
I would encourage play dates, she's not that shy if she's asked you for money... Cheeky!!!!!
Shy or not, she's a nanny that has to put your child first, after all thats what she gets paid to do!

am in shock that your nanny doesn't want to have playdates for your children and even more shocked she would like more money!!! Clearly she doesn't know what being a Nanny involves!!
I find it odd that your childs friends mother asked if her child could come to your house to play...usually if mother wants her child to play with friend she invite child to their house first!!
I love having friends over for kids I nanny for. I didn't love it in an old ob when my boss would invite her girlfriends over for lunch(&wine) and tell them I would look after them all!! sometimes 6 kids with completly different age range!! would have been nice to have been given a bunch of flowers or any gesture of thanks!!
But I would never expect payment to have playdates!!
Good luck with your nanny. let us all know how you get on.

i usually work as mothers help but all my employers expected me to have more common sense and initiative then your nanny seems to show. i noticed that the tread is a couple of months old so hope your situation improved!

This is Cheeky. Socialising your child is part of a nannies job.
