hoping for a home birth but what about the neighbours?

this is pg2 and we're hoping for a home water birth. I'm really looking forward to being able to control the environment, not having randoms walking into the room to have a look at my fanjo etc etc

but.. one concern i do have is my neighbours. I was really noisy during DS's birth and I'm worried I'm going to scare their children (my DS will hopefully be at my mum's at this point unless DC2 makes a particularly fast appearance!)

We live in a semi so only really got one side to worry about. I get on really well with them so it is something I can pop round and have a chat to them about but I don't really know what to say. The children will be off school by then so it will be very likely that they'll be around

i will of course try to keep the noise down but its not something i want to be focusing on iyswim. I've got a hypnobirthing course booked so hoping that might help channel my energies away from screaming!

i have always been amazed/impressed with the collective help of mn before so thought i'd ask...anyone got any cunning ideas?

Great, so you know now the date you'll go into labour (the night they get back )

MrsMiamla · 10/07/2010 07:14

that's exactly what I thought!

we had baby LooL00 at home last week. We have a semi and we just went in the room that doesn't ajoin the neighbours. DC were asleep upstairs and nobody was disturbed at all. We had a lot of plastic sheeting and 2 packets of huggies bedmats and the mw just arranged it with no help and then cleared up afterwards while DH was making tea.

ahh this has made me all excited about my homebirth again 1.5yrs ago

We live in semi and were in a room on the non ajoining side. Didnt actually tell the neighbour as she was a odd woman who complained when we did DIY (at sane hours).

No idea if she heard or not. I think i was bloody noisy (nearly 11bs, no pain relief really ) None of her business.... Although the noisy bit was all night from 8 til 10 on a sunday morning...

Good luck Home births are FAB!

hi LooLoo, congratulations! on your baby! how's your spd now? I've not been on the sofa for a while now, sorry, still think of you all though!

thanks giraffe, i'm alternating between being absolutely petrified, worrying that something's going to go wrong and really looking forward to it!

Thanks mrsMiamla my spd went as soon as the baby was born, well the kicked in the pubic bone by a horse feeling. I'm a bit hippy still but I've walked half a mile 2 days running and actually my fat ankles are destressing me more than the spd. My birth story is on the spd sofa thread. Is your spd any better? Good luck with your homebirth, the spd sofa seems to go for homebirths or elective c sections, very extreme.

LooL00 · 10/07/2010 20:23

distressing not destressing!!!

MrsMiamla · 10/07/2010 21:10

it would be better if they were 'destressing' you! ooh, i'll pop over to the sofa now to have a read!

spd is manageable. i've learnt to accept how much i can do and accept the consequences if i ignore my own advice!

Hi all. Just to quickly report back, I successfully had my home water birth last Wednesday morning, starting at around 5am and done by 9:23am!

It was so fast I didn't get any pain relief other than two paracetamol and the midwives barely arrived in time! However I'm glad to report that I didn't scream or moo in the slightest, so the neighbours probably remain oblivious.

I should probably go tell them I've had the baby at some point.

MrsMiamla · 11/07/2010 14:19

oh well done Spirael and thank you for coming back to share your news!
you've given me an extra bit of hope!
