Anyone have a feeling their baby would be early...and they were?

I know first babies are usually late, but for some reason I am convinced mine will be early...

Is this just wishful thinking or did anyone else's "intuition" turn out to be correct?

Thanks!

Yes, me!

I was due 13th June but had my baby on Tuesday in the early hours of the morning. I knew she would be early, don't know why. I've been saying so since day one. Didn't think she'd be quite THAT early though! She was born at 37+2, so just at term. She is my first baby too.

GiraffeAHolic · 29/05/2010 20:31

Yep. I was convinced dd was going to be early.

and she was

5 and 1/2 hours

SambuccaKelly · 29/05/2010 20:36

My first baby was 18 days late . But I had a gut feeling from the day I found out I was expecting no.2 that she would be early. I was right. She came 16 days before her due date. I also 'just knew' she was a girl .

JenniferCanesten · 29/05/2010 20:57

Giraffe.

Hmm...maybe I am not so crazy then...

Congratulations Emsyj! Is your baby home already or did she have to stay in scbu?

DS2 was due 20 Feb, thought he'd come 14 Feb, he arrived 10 Feb.

DS1 - couldnt imagine him arriving, and he didnt come until 2 weeks after is due date (and even then only with an eviction notice having been served)

thisisyesterday · 29/05/2010 21:09

no, but i had a very strong feeling that ds3 would be a week late, and he was!

elmofan · 29/05/2010 21:26

yes i had a feeling my dd would be born early & she was born at 36+2 . what is really weird is all through my pregnancy i kept telling my mum im going to be lucky if i reach 37wks with this baby . no reason to suspect an early birth as i went a week over due on my first born .

DownyEmerald · 29/05/2010 21:30

I just assumed dd would be late; first babies always are aren't they? and I was 14 days late. She was 12 days early - so that was about 26 days early on our timescale. That was a shock.

wilkos · 29/05/2010 21:33

yep, ds (12 weeks) was 5 days early

however...I was also convinced dd (2y 9m) would be early and I went 9 days over

I will wish you an early birth, going overdue sent me a bit loopy

TakeLovingChances · 30/05/2010 14:10

All through my pregnancy I was convinced DC would come before the due date (which was 5 March). People told me I was wrong 'because 1st babies are usually late.' ....

DS born 27 Feb I was right!

rockinghertosleep · 30/05/2010 15:23

Yup - 2 days after getting my positive pregnancy test for DD I "knew" she was a She, would be born early, and have loads of dark hair at birth. Nothing, not even the incorrect "male" guess of the sonographer at my 16 week scan could convince me otherwise. Sure enough, DD was born at 36+6, with a head full of dark hair!

Sadly, at 31w, no real strong feelings in any way this time, have been told its a he, but other than hoping he arrives early like his big sis, no gut feeling....

JenniferCanesten · 31/05/2010 01:25

For a proper-er scientifically balanced enquiry, do you think I should start a thread asking if anyone was madly convinced their baby would be early....and wasn't?

Still, think am possibly not completely insane to be trying to get everything ready early.

I was convinced DS2 was going to be early, so
much so I left work at 35wks. He arrived at 35+6wks! Trust your instincts I say! Good luck!

sunshineandshowers · 01/06/2010 10:46

YES!

Felt all the way alons she would be early - 1 week early. Now a gorgeous 11 week old.

Again, I also knew she would be a girl, and I knew DS would be a boy. Trust instints.

Poledra · 01/06/2010 10:50

I'll come on and tell you I was convinced that DD1 (first baby) would be early - all my mum's babies were early, my sisters' babies were all early....

8 days late. Longest feckin' 8 days of my life, I can tell you.............

JenniferCanesten · 01/06/2010 10:52

Aw, thanks MrsJamin!

It's not like I have had a single Braxton Hicks or anything like that...my main reason which is honestly quite I know, is that he has hiccups so often, and did have from so early, that I think maybe he has practised breathing so much that he will be quite good at it. Flaky logic, hence am going with "Er, it's intuition"

Do they usually have hiccups three times a day? He's got them now.

8 days is late by any dawdler's standards I guess...

Kingsroadie · 01/06/2010 12:36

Yes - she was born 6 days early. But my mother also had me and my brother 2 weeks and 3 weeks early resepctively...Good luck!

Avocadoes · 01/06/2010 12:43

I was convinced DD1 would be late. She was born at 38 weeks.

I was even more convinced DD2 would be early. She was eight days late.

Intuition ain't always all it's cracked up to be!

CMOTdibbler · 01/06/2010 12:45

Had no idea at all - but once DS had turned up at 35 weeks, several people said to me that they thought he would be early. Wish they'd told me so that I had packed a bag etc

TulipsInTheSunshine · 01/06/2010 12:46

I did with all three of mine.

dd was 4 days early and ds1 was 2 weeks early but then ds2 kept me waiting 5 days over my due date!

funkychunkymunky · 01/06/2010 12:48

I said all along that she would be early and it'd be a quick and easy birth.

She was 10 days early and it took 4 hours 40 mins from start to finish!

I don't know if it was intuition or positive thinking!

tryingtobemarrypoppins2 · 01/06/2010 12:52

Yes! Both times!
DS1 was 5 weeks early
DS2 was 5 days late and whole labour from first contraction to baby was 48mins

So right first time round!

diddl · 01/06/2010 13:15

Both of mine were early.
First pre-30wks, 2nd 36wks.

SqueezyB · 01/06/2010 13:28

everyone kept telling me DD would be early, as I was so bloody massive - "oooh, you won't go full term!" She was 7 days late, shows how much they knew! I didn't have any particular feelings either way though.

This time I feel like I'm going to be early, 5 days til due date so the clock is ticking to see if I'm right...
