Got no castor oil or hot curry, what can I eat to get things going?

I have mexican chilli bean wraps, quorn korma, sultanas, cereal, bananas, apples, tropical fruit juice, cranberry juice, peas, baked beans, bags of steamfresh mixed veg...

will any of those help bring on labour if I eat them tonight in sufficient quantities? I also have lactulose.

I need this baby out this weekend! Help!

nothing, baby will come when it's ready! sorry

onepieceoflollipop · 22/05/2010 21:42

Castor oil is dangerous so good job you haven't got it. If you think you are a bit constipated then have the lactulose (normal amount) otherwise I would say don't

Apparently pineapple/pineapple juice is good. I would go easy on curries and anything wind inducing such as the beans or possibly the mixed veg.

The day before dd2 was born (2 days "late") I was about to have a curry with dh. Something made me change my mind. Good job, went into labour around 4am. Dh smelt all spicy (not in a good way) but I was fine.

Perhaps that was what worked for me? If you have a dp/dh get him to eat all that stuff.

Nipple Tweaking...

Resident Doula and Birthing guru Lulumama always says for people to do that

onepieceoflollipop · 22/05/2010 21:45

In fact if lulu is here tonight she'll probably pop in with soothing advice.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 22/05/2010 21:45

Haven't got any pineapple, tried that last time and it didn't work. I'm 8 days overdue, need to get this baby out before the hospital start fussing.

Not feeding dp chilli bean wraps, our bedroom is stuffy enough already without him gassing me!

p.s. it won't speed things up but try and do stuff to pass the time. I washed my hair quite a bit in the last days. Also I did my toenails (not sure how I managed). I insisted that the midwife admire them whilst I was having a bath after delivery.

mrsgordonfreeman · 22/05/2010 21:49

Do sex. Don't try and induce diarrhoea, which is what castor oil or a curry will do. It might induce labour but it's a pretty unpleasant way to start.

I cleared out the cupboard under our stairs the day before. It was immaculate.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 22/05/2010 21:54

I did about two hours of nipple twiddling last night, brought on some braxton hicks but they tailed off when I went to bed.

Ok will try sex again. Whilst pouring sultanas into my gob and crying.

You will laugh at this thread in a few days when you are cuddling your newborn.

You have just discussed your nipple twiddling and current sex life with many strangers.

Early night then?

mumcow · 22/05/2010 21:58

You must be so fed up by now. I don't know about food to get things going, but in my case it was either having sex (DD) or hoovering the whole house (DS)that set things off! Good luck to you anyhow.

PussinJimmyChoos · 22/05/2010 21:58

Eww...I wouldn't want sex...I mean what if the midwives see any of the ahem stuff up there if you go into labour after?!!

onepieceoflollipop · 22/05/2010 21:59

I am sure they have seen worse Puss.

PussinJimmyChoos · 22/05/2010 22:02

Eww!!! No! Baby has to come out as well remember...eww!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 22/05/2010 22:03

Right then, sex whilst hoovering and munching sultanas directly from bowl. Got it.

puss... have you seen what comes out when a baby is born????

really, a tiny bit of semen is NOT going to get noticed! lol

ChairmumMiaowGoingItAlone · 22/05/2010 22:05

This talk of nipple twiddling is making me contemplate letting DS have as much 'milk time' as he wants till this baby comes

mumcow · 22/05/2010 22:09

Puss- before baby comes out all the amniotic liquid comes out- nature's way of 'cleaning up'? Anyway, what the midwife thinks is soooo low down on your list of priorities by then (grin)

PussinJimmyChoos · 22/05/2010 22:12

Nope...I barely had anything come out..even with ARM procedure and then what seemed like half the hospital up my fadge during the three day labour...was rather glad I didn't have any ahem debris from DH as it were lurking around there

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 22/05/2010 22:14

I love the way we've gone from steamfresh veg to spunk in a mere 20 posts. Only on MN.

Bounce lots on a birthing ball to "shake" the baby in to position! It seemed to work for me!

Oh and my labour was only 4 hours long

heymango · 22/05/2010 22:21

Apparently semen is better applied orally than vaginally - so there will be no trace of it afterwards!

Sorry, off to bed now as have made myself feel sick!

PussinJimmyChoos · 23/05/2010 18:18

Mango - you make it sound like semen is some kind of ointment

Quite frankly, I'd rather have a chocolate bar...

EdgarAllenPoll · 23/05/2010 18:25

Nipple tweaking - seriously, employ your OH if you can't be bothered yourself - but about half an hour of nipple fondling can help put you in labour.

A combination of this & actually getting down to sex brought on DS @40+9 veen though he didn't look overcooked at all when born...
