I'm all new to Mumsnet! Due on 20th May,(38+5) and honestly am about to go mental I am so ready for this baby to come out. Been feeling 'different' (if anyone gets what I'm talking about!) for a week or so, but baby been engaged for ages, and then Sunday had a show, which has been going on for 2 days - lovely! Just wondered how long people were before they actually had their babies? Honestly feels like its taking FOREVERRRRRR!!!

Actually I had my show whilst in labour. I was about 6-7 cm dilated, when it appeared!

I was 40+6 when I went into labour.

I also had my show when I was in labour, about 2 hours before DS arrived.

Hello

I am 39+5 and had a show yesterday, which is still ongoing. Started dribbling fluid on Monday too. About 5am I started having contractions like bad period pains every half-hour or so. They stopped by 7:30am and now I feel fine! Not sure what's going on to be honest...

If you are engaged (I'm not) and having a show, I expect things will start hotting up in the next few days or so. It is frustrating though thinking is this it!? Oh no, its not

slushy06 · 12/05/2010 10:24

I had many shows I am afraid my first 6weeks before dd was born. However also had lots while in labor and they were quite different the one's before labor were a mix of clear and green snot like substance(sorry if tmi) But the one that signaled birth was clear with a lot of blood.

FatPudding · 12/05/2010 10:25

That's what I had too, but before I had my show, bad period type pains, and must've just been ridiculously strong BH because I ended up in the bath at 5am!
yeah really engaged as all the midwives keep saying 'oh its soon' Which is actually making it worse as I'm not 40 weeks for another week. BOOO!
Hope its soon for you too, so frustrating, especially when I tell DP I think something's happening! x

I went into labour 1 week after I had my show.
I didn't have a show with my second child, or at least I didn't realize it.

FatPudding · 12/05/2010 10:31

Thanks, I asked my mum if she had anything like it, if there was anything genetic?! she didn't with me but did with my sister (but was already in labour!)
I'd had one or two that seemed like what you had experienced slushy06, then this one on sunday was clear with blood. Oh please let this be it soon!!!
Laugh if it came today (wed - full of woe!) x

If clear with blood would say it is gonna happen soon.

SmallShips · 12/05/2010 12:58

I had the clear, blood stained show on Friday and went into labour/gave birth on Monday.

Sonilaa · 12/05/2010 13:02

I had a "custard + jam" show on a thursday dd born sunday lunchtime.

Nymphadora · 12/05/2010 13:05

sunshiney · 12/05/2010 13:25

custard and jam - blarrrggghh!

Thursday morning show (light bleeding) - labour by Friday lunchtime, birth that evening.

mrsfred · 12/05/2010 13:29

Had both my DD's within 12 hours of having a show. Good luck!

kittywise · 12/05/2010 17:54

I remember my midwive saying that a show wasn't an indicator of imminent birth, sorry.

GetToFalkirk · 12/05/2010 18:15

Had a show at 7 am , had first contraction at 3pm, baby born at 2.30am next morning. 2nd baby though. Good luck

FanjolinaJolie · 12/05/2010 18:34

Had show 17 days before labour started.

Good luck for your labour and delivery.

pamelat · 12/05/2010 19:27

Am due today (!) with our second. With DD1 I dont even recall a show and not had anything of note with this LO either.

Had period like and back ache for a week or so though.

Hoping he doesnt arrive tonight as DH really quite ill

FatPudding · 12/05/2010 19:52

Oh no! hope everything goes well and you don't have to wait long. been trying to walk about lots (even though baby feels extremely heavy!)

Fanjolina - 17 days!? uh oh I feel like this may be me too. was your baby engaged? mine seems to have been engaged for at least 3 weeks. hate that all the midwives keep saying 'oooh yes something is happening...' aaaaaaah!

With ds1 I had a show when I was in labour.

With ds2 I had 3 shows before he put in an appearance, the first one 3 weeks before I had him.

PANCHEY · 12/05/2010 21:13

The tension of waiting for something to happen is just unbelievable. I know that you will not stop wondering if this is it, but I advise you to just enjoy your last few moments of calm. Cuddle up with your partner and just enjoy being with each other, at the risk of sounding corny, on the eve of the incredible journey ahead of you.

For the record, with DD1 had a show two days before the birth and DD2 one day before the birth.

OrganicHairbrush · 12/05/2010 21:19

I went into labour with no warning at all! So don't assume that DC won't suddenly appear

PerArduaAdNauseum · 12/05/2010 21:55

2 days before for me. All the books (and midwife on the phone) said could be up to 2 weeks, but when I went to the final antenatal class and told the MW I'd had a show the day before she said 'better get ready' and she was right...

MarineIguana · 12/05/2010 22:49

I had a show 3 days before with DS, and none at all with DD - just had waters breaking and then labour immediately after that. DD was several days early and my GP had predicted exactly that from palpating. (sp?)

"custard and jam" is gross - but so accurate!

If you think it's imminent, it may well be. Get lots of sleep - it's easier to go through and recover from labour (and particularly a c-section if you have one) when you've been well-rested.

diddl · 13/05/2010 09:28

I was 8cms when I had mine.

SpangleMaker · 13/05/2010 11:20

I had a show on the Sunday, waters went on Tuesday, labour started & DS born Wed morning.

Good luck!
