If you were overdue on no.1, when did no.2 arrive?

Hi,

I was a week overdue with DD, and I'm wondering if it's likely to be the same this time. Any experiences? Do second babies usually come a bit earlier?

MIL has to come and stay to look after DD when I go into labour and she lives 6 hours away, so it's not like we can just call her when the contractions start. I don't want her hanging around for days though just waiting for me to give birth, I think that would drive me mad! So I'm thinking as I was late last time it would be ok for her to just arrange to come on my due date or the day before, or is that tempting fate?

1st -week late

2nd-9 and a half weeks early!

3rd -week late

DS was 8 days late, DD was 5 days early - and have friends who were early with DC1 and late withDC2....so not much help I'm afraid! How long was your labour last time? - maybe give MIL a call as soon as you feel niggly?

1st - induced after 9 days
2nd - came naturally on day 10

i think u have a fair liklihood of going overdue, but obviously cant guarentee it.
from wat i noticed some ppl either have a tendancy to go over or to come early & it happens with all their kids?

ask mil to come @ that time n c if u can get a local emergency back up plan if you did go early, like a neighbour or something?

1st ten days late.
2nd was persueded to come out 10 days late after my waters broke and she still didn't budge. Lazy moo is still the same now. She in bed atm.

i'm almost tempted to have a third to see if it arrives on due date

i'd say get mil to come on your due date ish, also it might worth checking out if your hospital has a 24hr creche thing, i know our old one did! never used it but was v. impressed it was there!

don't think anything really follows, 1st birth lasted 2 days, other two much less painful and happened within a couple of hours of waters breaking

dd induced at 40+6 and definitely not ready to come out.
ds 14 days early (and I always suspected my due date should have been a week later so maybe 3 weeks early). I was not prepared!

Hmm, oh dear, not as clear cut as I'd have hoped! I've got it in my head that I'll be late, but I guess I can't bank on it.

Maybe I'll still get her to come around due date, but ask a few friends to be back-up just in case baby comes early. I guess worse case scenario a friend would only have to look after DD for a few hours before MIL turned up. Just hope it's not the middle of the night...

this time i will be very bolshy indeed if suggest induction just for dates, as i now realise how innaccurate even the best method of dating is (dating scan @ 10 weeks +- 10 days accuracy...) and that for my size person, 41 weeks is actually the average gestation.

although, i definitely recommend nipple stimulation to get labour going ! It's not bad, even if it doesn't always work (there is some clinical evidence that it does help though)
