Sounds like waters to me, they can go in short spurts rather than a big whoosh.

Surely you don't have to book a specific day for a home birth?!

Owlingate · 17/03/2010 09:19

That's how it started with me with the third. Then after a little while the rest all went with a gush. Take it you are 36+6 or 37+6 depending on your area? HB may be still be "allowed", worth checking .

CMOTdibbler · 17/03/2010 09:22

Sounds like your waters to me. Call your friendly home birth supporting midwife to ask for advice - it might be that with only one days difference, and not actually being in labour yet you'll be OK

thirtysomething · 17/03/2010 09:25

sounds like waters - mine went like that at 38 weeks - no smell or anything. I too thought i'd wet myself until DH muttered something about waters going....good luck!

sherby · 17/03/2010 09:25

36+6

have spoken to community md, they said I had to go in, just trying to decide what to do, how much difference can 24hrs make?

They often want you to go in to check baby is happy, check no meconium, check no infection etc. Then they send you home for labour to start. The only problem is, once you have been examined the clock starts ticking and they will encourage you to be induced if labour does not start within a certain amount of time. In one of my hosps the policy was if before 37 weeks induction within 24 hours and IV antibiotics to prevent infection. But as you say, you're only one day short of 37 weeks.

Owlingate · 17/03/2010 09:35

I would ring back and ask what the procedure is re induction / infection, whether they'll "let" you go back home if not in established labour and so on.

sherby · 17/03/2010 10:17

Have spoken with lovely midwife and said I am not going in, so she is coming to check it is waters and go from there

Lots of backache now though

Have you got stairs? Try walking up and down them (don't know why this works). Or bounce on birthing ball if you have one. Or have a nice long rest then start doing all that.

Ooohh! Exciting!

ShowOfHands · 17/03/2010 19:12

The day I went into labour I wasn't 'allowed' a hb. Long labour though and the next day they reversed the decision. Had to transfer in at the end but they did change their mind. My labour started like that, waters breaking first.

How exciting!

DesperateHousewife21 · 17/03/2010 19:13

Will keep checking in to see how your getting on, good luck sherby!

lifeistooshort · 17/03/2010 21:42

Hi Sherby

I hope the niggles transformed into something more conclusive and that you are holding your little baby in your arms as I type!
