Thats it really, just a quick poll that will hopefully make me feel better that a 2nd labour will be much quicker than my 1st 27 hour labour.

First twinges at 18.30 hours, Ds born at 10.50am.

First twinges at 06.30, Dd born at 17.15 hours.

gigglewitch · 15/03/2010 00:31

1 - 15 hours ish from niggle to baby
2 - niggles started at 3am waters went at 4ish as I was wondering how long I could leave it to go to hospital, baby born 5.19am, fifteen mins after we got in the labour ward

Rindercella · 15/03/2010 00:33

Watching thread with interest.

DD1 was born within 7 hours of first twinge. DD2 due within the next couple of weeks, so am imagining such a fast labour that I end up giving birth in the downstairs loo!

jennifersofia · 15/03/2010 01:43

1 - 6.5 hrs
2 - 3 hrs
3 - 3 hrs

I was told that as a general rule they are 1/2 the time of the previous.

diddl · 15/03/2010 08:23

With first from first contraction like pain to giving birth 1hr,
With second 2hrs.

First was 12hrs from first "niggle"
Second 8hrs from waters breaking.

ja9 · 15/03/2010 08:32

first was 18 hours from first inkling to baby.

second was 2 hours from first inkling to baby

StealthPolarBear · 15/03/2010 08:40

DS: 1st contraction at 7.30pm on Wednesday
he was born at 5.30 on Friday evening
but i walked to the local shop on Thursday morning so was obviously OKish

DD: 1st contraction 8.30pm on Thursday
she was born at 11.30pm on Friday

sweetkitty · 15/03/2010 08:42

first - 4h20m
second - 2h30m

that's from waters or first twinge

second labours are a lot faster than firsts in general

NightLark · 15/03/2010 08:44

Half the time here - 24 hours for the first, just under 12 hours from waters going to baby in arms for the second.

dinkystinky · 15/03/2010 08:45

3 days of early labour niggles then induced with DS1 - born after 8 hours

DS2 - waters went at 5.30, contractions kicked in around 6.30, in my arms at 9.30.

Good luck.

MumInBeds · 15/03/2010 08:52

My first two were extremes. 1st 54 hours and the second 19 minutes - quite a shock the second time round.

(3rd was 6 hours, 4th was 4 minutes, 5th was 10 hours)

Buddleja · 15/03/2010 08:53

First was induced and started labour at 5.30am and I was sectioned at 8 cm (due to foetal distress after being given oxytocin) at 3pm

Second started at 5pm Sat and i was section (rolling eyes smilie) at 6pm Sunday (due to failed vontouse and forceps)

I've rounded off the times - I didn't do everything exactly on hour and half hour!!

I'd say my first was shorter than my second because I as induced and give oxytocin and only got to 8cm. I went into labour myself and got no 'aids' on my second labour and got to the pushing stage which it being a VBAC they were very cautious about lasting too long

MrsJohnDeere · 15/03/2010 08:59

1st 5 hours
2nd 1 hour

winstonstimpson · 15/03/2010 09:02

first I started with contractions at around 2pm and DD arrived at 2am.

second time I had first twinges at around 7pm and DD2 was born at midnight. It was much faster but much more intense. I dont remember transition the first time around but I certainly do for the second!

Good luck

heymango · 15/03/2010 09:04

1st 29 hours

2nd 12 hours

(from first twinge)

Boobz · 15/03/2010 09:07

First contraction 4pm Weds afternoon; DD born 6:30am Sunday morning (although it took me until Saturday afternoon to get to 4cm dilated and "established labour"... was pretty knackered by the time I got to that point though and still had 6cm and pushing to do!

2nd baby due in 3 months... am preying it's not a marathon labour again (although at least now I know what to expect and to not get too excited when the first contractions start coming...)

Boobz · 15/03/2010 09:08

praying, obv.

weegiemum · 15/03/2010 09:12

1st - woke at 5am Sat am (don't think it was first twinge as I was woken by the pain), dd1 born 6pm Sunday (37 hours, back-to-back labour, 10lb baby)

2nd - waters went at 10pm Sat night, ds born 8am Sunday, easy labour, just G&A, 9lb3. Waters going was first sign, didn't start contracting till about 1am.

3rd - induction at 6am, born 6.30pm, so 12 and a half hours. 'Tiny' 7lb13 baby (3 weeks early!)

First was the worst by a long margin - think it was the OP presentation tbh, the releif I felt when I was examined and told ds was OA was amazing!! Plus size of course!!

1st DC: (painful) latent phase of 18 hrs; active phase (when contractions went to every 2 mins) of 12 hrs; pushing for about 15 mins.

2nd DC - earlier this week: (not particularly painful) latent phase of 30 hrs; active phase (when contractions went to every 2 mins) of about 2.5 hours; pushing for 23 mins. Made it to the hospital with 40 mins to spare.

fumanchu · 15/03/2010 09:35

Ist about 24 hours, 2nd about 5 - only went to hospital with 2nd due to MIL nagging and he was born within an hour of arriving.

tabbycat7 · 15/03/2010 09:44

DS1 54 hours pushed for 3 hrs ended up with an asisted delivery and 8 stitches.

DS2 19 hours pushed for 1 hr 15 mins 3 stitches

DS3 10 hours pushed for 30 mins no stitches

MumNWLondon · 15/03/2010 09:58

first
15 hours from first contraction, DD born 5 hours after getting to hospital.

second
9 hours from first contraction, DS born 2 hours after getting to hospital.

DC3 due in 6 weeks.....

Trikken · 15/03/2010 10:05

DS was 13 hours from start to finish, pushed for what seemed forever but realistically was an hour and a half. placenta took an hour to come out as well and was more painful than giving birth.

DD was 36 hours from start to finish but once the realised I was in 'Established'(hate that term, makes it sound like it was painless before that stage but in reality soo painful) labour it went pretty quickly and only gave a few pushes before she popped out.the placenta came out straight after, so much longer labour but by far easier birth.

had a few stitches with both.

lal123 · 15/03/2010 10:10

From first niggle to birth - DD1, 18 hours ish, DD2 20 hours. WIth both the pushing stage was really quick. DD1 born 3 hours after going into hospital, DD2 about 1 nad a half
