Thats it really, just a quick poll that will hopefully make me feel better that a 2nd labour will be much quicker than my 1st 27 hour labour.

exactly the same amount of time, 18 hours with both... sorry!

with the second though i knew what it would feel like towards the end so i wasn't as concerned labouring at home.

with my 1st i went into hospital only to be told i was 1/2 cm dilated and slunk off home again in shame

with my second i only went in a couple of hours before he ws born and was confidant that i knew fairly well how things were progressing while labouring at home.

my third however was a textbook, nice quick labour (almost too quick considering how far i am from the hospital and how long it took my mother to get here!) It started off stong and kept going until he was bron.

my second was OP so that had a huge affect on the length of labour

slightlystressed · 15/03/2010 10:29

1st - 4 hours
2nd - 2 hours (although would have been quicker if had got to hospital sooner)

smilehomebirth · 15/03/2010 11:12

Woo slightlystressed! Those were quick.

1st - waters broke sunday. Contractions most of Monday, dying down at night. Contractions most of Tuesday, had her 6pm wednesday, 2hrs pushing on back with epidural.
I consider all that to add up to at least 24 hrs.

2nd - Regular braxton hix all evening, gradually turning into proper labour overnight. Had her 9am at home in the pool, 10 minute-ish 2nd stage.
I called that 7hrs.

nigglewiggle · 15/03/2010 11:16

1st - 6 hrs
2nd - 4 hrs (would have been quicker but she turned and got in an awkward position so I took longer pushing her out!)

Good luck.

tobago04 · 15/03/2010 11:20

1st 22hrs
2nd 6hrs
Waiting to see how long dc 3 will take
Good luck

scaredoflove · 15/03/2010 11:37

1st 36 hours - was 3cm after 6 hours/7cm at 16 hours/10cm at 35 hours

2nd 4 hours - 4cm at 2.5 hours/10cm at 3 hours

3rd 11 hours - 4 cm at 8 hours/10cm at 10 hours

4th 2 hours - 0-10cm in 1.5 hours

All counted from 1st contraction but each one bar last was only about 2 hours of needing to breath through contraction

heth1980 · 15/03/2010 11:41

first labour was 6 hours, second labour was 3 hours. My MW told me that they would generally expect a second labour to be about half the time of the first......she was right in my case!

pigleychez · 15/03/2010 12:12

Oh thank god there is some hope then!

DD was 27 hours from waters breaking and first contractions but was back to back then got stuck so needed manualy turning and tugging helping out.

Really really hoping for an easier and quick one this time

justanuthermanicmumsday · 15/03/2010 14:45

1st-contractions started 12pm. entered labour ward 6pm, had son in 4 hrs, normal delivery.

2nd-contractions from 11pm. entered ward 8.30am, had daughter in 15 mins, normal delivery.

fingers crossed this next one is as fast as last. that said 2nd was more painful because she came out so fast i didn't have much control.

cathers · 16/03/2010 13:33

DS1 6hrs
DS2 3hrs

Both same level of pain which fortunately was pretty low!

DrivenToDistraction · 16/03/2010 13:36

DD 12 hours
DS 4 hours

3cutedarlings · 16/03/2010 13:40

1st - 26 hours (from first painful contraction which were 4 mins apart)

2nd - 2 hours!(from show to baby in arms) delivered at home unplanned by 2 wonderful paramedics

3rd - 1.5 hours (from show again) planned home birth

spiggy · 16/03/2010 13:50

1st 36 hours of painful contactions and then he had to be dragged out with a ventouse.

2nd I went from eating dinner to holding baby within 20mins. Even the paramedics didn't believe it was so quick and were telling DP that we had plenty of time to get me to the hospital as DD was crowning.

Eliza70 · 16/03/2010 16:03

1st - waters broke at home at 2am, baby arrived at 10.50 am the folowing day

2nd - mild contractions from 8pm, got to hospital at midnight, baby born at 00.50, second stage (pushing) 5 minutes, third stage 6 minutes - amazing!

I love these threads...

1st labour - 4 days
2nd labour - 3 hours

Good luck!

frogthistle · 16/03/2010 22:50

1st 53 hours from start to finish
2nd 6.5 hours
3rd 3.5 hours although genuine 'yes I am in labour now' timing = 1.5 hours, rest was niggles

BlameItOnTheBogey · 17/03/2010 08:41

1st labour 3 days from first contraction to delivery.

2nd labour 1hr and 20 mins.

Good luck

preggersplayspop · 17/03/2010 08:50

First one contractions started shortly after sweep at about 11am. Went to hospital with contractions < 5 mins apart at 9pm baby born 4.30am.

Second one, started getting period like pains at 3am, but very manageable. Went to hospital at 8.30pm baby born 10.30pm.

Second felt much quicker, and probably was, but I think part of the difference was that I stayed at home longer as I knew what was coming so was more prepared.

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 17/03/2010 08:52

First labour - 13 hours from first real 'ouch' niggle to birth

2nd labour - 6.5 hours

3rd labour - 4 hours

mummylin2495 · 17/03/2010 09:12

First 4and 1/2 hours from first pains
second 3 and 1/4 hrs from beginning.

IvaNighSpare · 17/03/2010 10:01

First 44 hours (and a whole 'comedy' of errors to boot, which would be a whole other thread). Every painkiller available.
Second 82 minutes and (almost) enjoyed it, just gas and air.

Does that make you feel any better.

There will not be a third, as that's just tempting fate...

cupofcoffee · 17/03/2010 10:47

1st 24 hours
2nd 2 hours
3rd 2 hours
