Waters just gone - how long was it for you between waters going and birth?!

Says it all really . First time around they had to break my waters. this time they have just gone all over the bedroom rug! Just about to phone mw as having a home birth. Just wondering how long it might be.....

Mine went at 1am in the morning, established labour began at about 3am and I gave birth at 6am....so you may have a brand-new baby by breakfast time! Good luck

wow, I hope its the 5 hours like you and not the 5 days like tortoise! Midwife has told me to get some sleep. Will try but its going to be hard I think.

Do try to get the sleep. It's not going to be five days, but I thought 'ooh, any hour now' and...yeah. Not so much.

I went three days after my waters broke, and ended up being induced and then having a c-section. But if you've had one successful birth then I'm sure things will get moving faster than that (and I hope have a better outcome). Have a lovely home birth

DS = 46 hours
DD = 5 hours

Mine went at 3pm, didn't get any twinges at all until 11pm, established labour probably by 4am the next day and gave birth at 9pm so 30 hours for me. That was my first child though.

They did tell me they would have induced after 24 hours if nothing had happened naturally due to the risk of infection but I believe that can vary depending on where you live.

Not quite the same but DS2 was born 20 mins after waters going although I had been in labour a couple of hours by then.

well it was 5 minutes for me, lucky I was at hospital already as I was only having light twinges before my waters went.
If I have another it will be at home!

Like you my 1st were broken by MW at 10am, he arrived after drip etc 12 hrs later.

2nd had some pains at 8.30am, waters went at 10am, delivered by his Daddy on the bedroom floor at 11.30am. I thought when I was on the phone to the on call MW at 10.30am I wasn't in enough pain to be in labour, that soon changed! Good luck and get some rest if not some sleep.

My waters have gone before labour started all four times. Times between waters and birth were:

No 1: 43 hours
No 2: 27 hours
No 3: 8 hours
No 4: 96 hours (special case, really not to be recommended).

In most normal people (ie not me), waters breaking is a sing of something imminent.

nooka, did they find out at the CS why your baby wasn't coming of its own accord? They did with mine- she'd been playing with her cord for several weeks and was tangled in it that she couldn't reach the exit!

Lol. Bored baby I guess! No, they didn't say and I didn't ask. My waters broke early with ds (my first) too. He was a transverse oblique lie and would never have made it out. dd was engaged - I've always assumed that my uterus just wasn't very good at pushing, as
I didn't have any natural contractions with either of them.

hello everyone, quick update. Contractions every 5-7 minutes. I am coping OK though, they aren't too bad. Just seen DD off to Grandma's - she is so excited.

about 30 minutes (had to break them)
previous labour they went in the kitchen as i was being sick in the sink. DS was born 2 1/2 hours later

bear in mind my experience is not going to be relevant as it was about 30 seconds.

Thatw as ds2 though, ds1 it was approx. 8 hours.

Hope you are doing OK and your rug survives!!

How exciting!

With all 3 of mine, birth came quickly after waters breaking!

Ds1- 4-5 hours
Dd - 2 1/2 hours
Ds2 - 3 hours

Mine went at 1.40am on the Wednesday - DD born 2.50am on the Friday. Escaped induction by the skin of my teeth!

Mine went at 6:30am and contractions started properly at 6:45pm and then DS born at 2:50am.

I have one DC, waters broke spontaneously, DS born 12 mins later! I had been contracting for 8 hours though beforehand.

Mine went at 10am.
Had a pain at 5pm& was 8cms-baby born at 7pm.

Mine went with the twins before labour started. They were out with em c section within the hour. Born at 29 weeks though.

The other 5 pregnancies my waters broke during established labour so not really relevent. All out withinn an hour or so.

I am sure you will be snuggling your baby before the day is out

Rest when you can and eat well. Keep going for a wee too. Watch something funny to keep yourself upbeat.
