quick question on giving birth..............?

hi everyone

im 41wks pg today, and am not very happy to still be waiting for my little one to arrive, well enough of my little maon.
i am booked for an induction on monday morning and i surpose it has really sunk in now that this is going to happen and that i really am gonna have to give birth and to be honest im completely terrfied. any one else feel like this or am i just being a wimp?

how many people were sick or pooed durind labour and birth, i really don't want this too happen as i guess no one does, so i was just wandering how often it happenes.

I was a little bit sick from gas and air but really, honestly it just didn't matter. Have no idea what came out of my nether regions but in all honesty once you're busy doing the labour thing I don't think you'll care one iota.

I had neither (BTW my dd was born exactly 41wks), but from what I've heard, and IME, once you're in full-on labour you really don't give a damn! Several mums that I've spoken to on Mumsnet and in RL who have pooed didn't even realise that it had happened.

If it really worries you, ask to be given an enema. As for the vomitting, I don't think that there's anything you can do abot it, some will and some won't. If you use G&A breathe it slowly, don't gasp at it, and have a bottle of water with a sports cap ready to sip on after each contraction (birth partner's job) as IME it's the drying effect of the G&A in your mouth and throat that can make you retch.

I also worried hugely about the pooing thing, I think most people do. You probably won't believe me, but when the time comes you won't care! I actually had to ask dh whether I had pooed or not!! (I hadn't )

I wasn't sick either, so it's not inevitable. Just keep focussing on the reason you are there - the baby!

Another thing, whether you chuck or not is nothing to do with whether or what you eat. In any case, if you're going to chuck then it's far worse on an empty stomach. Wtih my first I just didn't want to eat, though I wasn't nauseated, but with my second I think I only stopped eating to push.

I threw up all over myself with ds1 - just about the time of going into transition I think. Felt like I was going to poo myslef while pushing but didn't (at least if I did no-one told me ). Nothing you can do to stop it - and you probably will be beyond caring by then if you do !

It could still happen naturally. I went into labour with ds the day before I was going to be induced. I was about 10 days overdue. Before this I'd had no labour symptoms at all - no BH etc.
I think a small plus point of going overdue is that by the time things do start to happen you'll be so relieved it will help you to relax. It's the waiting that's the torture.

I was very nearly sick in the car on the way to hospital but I had stuffed myself silly at home. Once you arrive our hospital wont let you eat until you've delivered.

I pretty sure I didn't poo. DH says I didn't. To be honest I wouldn't have cared at the time. All your shame circuits get switched off during labour.

Well I was sick (constantly) and I pooed.

Did I care? Nope!!!

I spent the whole of labour (31 hours!) needing to poo and couldn't cos ds was in the way. Ended up I didn't for 15 days cos episiotimy hurt too much!

I think everyone feels it, don't worry! I have been sick but it wasn't a big deal. The thing about pooing is that when you are ready to push it feels exactly like you want to do a poo (excuse baby talk!) - it's the pressure of the baby's head on your bowel, and midwives do say that when a mum says 'I just want to go to the loo' they know the baby is coming! I really don't know if I ever did or not - the whole thing is a bit messy - but please don't worry - everyone, including you is more interested in the baby's head! I hope it all goes well for you

my great grandmother had 7 kids (including 1 set of twins) - when asked what childbirth was like she said "like the hardest shi*t of my life" !

i was really sick and pooed funny story really, i had gas and air and the end fell off the pip so i re attached it but i attached it wrong so i wasnt getting hardly any air just gas, so that why i was sick. as for pooing alot of women do it and the midwife didnt make any fuss she just cleared it up and kept going! you will be fine i was induced and it wasnt nearly as bad as i expected it to be

hi hun i threw up once during labour but didnt poo. To be honest when the labour actually happens u just deal with it. hard to explain but u jus tknow your going to have this fab little thing at the end.

I don't think I pooed but theres so much blood you can't see whats there!!!
I was sick with every single contraction even in early labour.

I was terrified cos I'm not good with pain but you get through it and a lovely little baby to show for it.

Or you could have a lovely caesarian like me! No pooing, no vomiting and no pushing. Very civilised indeed!

I didn't poo or be sick, but was really worried about having a catheter for some reason, someone had scared me about them beforehand (nice, thanks for that) so when they said I maight need one if I hadn't weed in an hour I just clammed up and needed 4 in the end!!! (V long labour!) I had drank so much water (gas and air) but can honestly say I didn't give a monkeys!
You will be absolutely fine, it's wierd but you feel like you can cope with anything!

I must admit, i realised i was doing it, and felt a little embarrassed, but everything else going on stops it from being too embarrassing. The midwife was great dp says, she just swooped it away and said nothing.

I was cringing inside praying that noone would notice,and just pretended i didn't know i'd done it.

Kama, really??? I was there along time...and at first was fine, but as soon as she mentioned catheter it all clammed up! Could not wee no matter how hard I tried...!!! They said that there is a danger if your bladder is full when you push! It wasn't so bad anyway, and I even laughed when they did it and all the wee fountained up all over the Midwives hands!!!
