im 41wks pg today, and am not very happy to still be waiting for my little one to arrive, well enough of my little maon.
i am booked for an induction on monday morning and i surpose it has really sunk in now that this is going to happen and that i really am gonna have to give birth and to be honest im completely terrfied. any one else feel like this or am i just being a wimp?

how many people were sick or pooed durind labour and birth, i really don't want this too happen as i guess no one does, so i was just wandering how often it happenes.

OOH, just beat you, was in labour (hospital- was at home in the bath for previous 26 hours!) 7pm until 3.49pm next day!!! I was drinking loads of water and walking around, was going to the loo as and when...it was only when the midwife mentioned it that the problems started! I had just got myself into a state about it cos someone had been winding me up and I thought it would be a problem but it wasn't too bad at all!
Perhaps they have a catheter fetish in Lancashire??

I pooed and was sick both times - and my waters burst all over the midwife's face. Honestly, you won't care - you'll just want your baby out. Good luck

LMAO at this thread! You wait till you're potty training and picking it up/catching it with your bare hands! I once had a friend over and caught sight of a turd in the corner of the room (must have been there a bit...) - it was the longest cup of coffee of my life!

i ma a student midwife and unfortunatley for the mum, it does happen quite a lot, but the mum is always more embarrased than us.

i'm sure that i speak for most other midwives that if a woman does poo then we won't make a big song and dance about it, we will just clear it up and carry on.

if you are sick we'll pass you a bowl and clear up too.

we're here to look after you hun! no need to worry, i'm sure that when the time comes you won't even think about it!

Good luck

crumbs what a scarey thread i have 3 dds and not sure i would have had 1 if i had read this first i wasnt sick with any of mine, and i either dindnt or wasnt told poo! and to be honest you really wont mind the deperatly needing to poo bit is quite near the end and it is the head close to coming out.then a great feeling of relief and a baby in your arms recommended it 100% ..

You really wont care.

DS2 was born in water without any pain relief at all. I was stark naked in the pool and the water went a bit murky but I didnt ask.

The whole army could have walked in and I wouldnt have given a damn!!

A tip....as your contraction starts bend your knees and squat down. Did wonders for me and the pool was fab too if it is possible.

All the best and just focus on the fact that it will soon be all over and you will soon have a baby to hold.

just wanted to add, I worked in my local maternity unit for 6 months and if the person was on their hands and knees we would hold a pad over their bottom when pushing, sometimes women"leak" a little bit but have never seen a women "curl one up" so to speak!-plus many women get the sh*ts before or during the labour-the bodys natural clearing out! hth

Sick, pooed, ripped to shreds

at one point had THREE nurses crouching round my bits trying to find the hole to shove my catheter in ... I mean really, ladies...

I was too busy offering the anaesthetist my house/car/husband to give a toss about any of that though

I was sick in transition with ds and did a little poo but my mum was there so that was marginally better than a husband/midwife/doctor seeing it.
With dd I was neither sick nor poo'd
Trust me at the time it happens you do not care, you are surrounded by professionals who have seen this over and over again.
Wishing you very very good luck come tell us when you have your baby, hopefully SOON!

ds was born at 41weeks+5 days. i was induced..
your fears ARE SO NATURAL. he was my first and i was so scared. but rely on your instinct and you will get thru it and keep telling yourself that it ..will.. END eventually. =) no you're not being a wimp (i am assuming this is your first?)

i got a bit sick when contractions started, but it was from fear, as i went from no contractions to having them 90seconds apart! and as far as the poop part is concerned, i dont know for certain, but i can assume i did!!
(trust me, at that moment, if you do poop a bit, you won't notice or CARE!) =)

good luck with the induction..but i hope you go naturally before!!

I did both and to be honest I really couldn't of given a toss. The whole experience is out of this world and at the end you have the most amazing life in your arms.
Good luck andlet us know when your bundle arrives.

i was mortified to think i may poo during labour, but thankfully i didnt, but saying that i dont think i would have cared tbh. i was also really paranoid about my mum and dp looking at my "bits"(i am really shy) under the spot light so to speak when pushing...again i didnt care! i was sick, but that was only once and was minutes before i was said to be fully dilated (which i think is quite common)

when you go into labour you dont care at all you just want the pain to stop and your baby born, i know it is easy for me to say but really...dont worry

good luck xx

Your not a wimp at all!
I wasnt sick and didn't feel sick at all.
As regards to the poo, i was worried aswell and as i planned a waterbirth, told dp that he was to hold the sieve and fish it out if anything came floating to the surface! Think he was relieved that i'd only managed to produce a few 'bubbles' before i had to have epi and intervention.

When i was pushing, i really felt the urge to poo and told everyone in the room that it was going to happen! i couldn't stop pushing if i'd wanted to. Afterwards, i clearly remember asking the midwife if one had 'slipped out'. She said no, but i wouldn't have known if it had. Also, don't trust these medics - doc said i only had 1 stitch ...what a lier!

Dp stayed at the 'top', but suspect that he was secretly disappointed that one didnt 'slip out' as then he would have teased me mercilessly forever!

Tip --- sit on a gym ball with your legs quite wide apart and gently bounce. I poo-pooed (lol at own joke) this idea until i was over-due and at the hospital they made me and it works. i will buy my own next time.

Oh and the following didnot work...raspberry leaf tea (just made me pee alot), curry (was just uncomfortably hot and risk of squits), running(more like lumbering!) up and down stairs, and sex (just rolled of in undignified manner). Good Luck!
