Is this labour? Or my body just evil for shits and giggles?

Hello!

This is DS2... for DS1 I was having 1min long contractions every 6 minutes for like, 2 days before I went into hospital, and I was induced at 42+5.

This time however, I started having what felt like contractions last night, for about 40 seconds every 4 minutes.

They were very manageable and I was able to sleep through them... I don't really notice them when I am standing/walking but I def do when sitting.

They are STILL GOING!
Still the same thing, only feel them when I am relaxing, but still every 4-5 mins, last between 40-50 seconds.

Waters intact, so is plug!

What's my body doing?! I am 37 weeks.

Well not as regular but certainly stronger! They are causing me to stop for breath now!

Am getting a little concerned as have also now developed a headache which isn't like me.
hmmm.

Called hosp, they don't want to see me yet but have suggested I might have a UTI?!

OP posts:
LuluMaman · 01/08/2009 15:07

UTI can trigger contractions.
do they not want a urine sample?

MakkaPakkasWilly · 01/08/2009 15:11

No... and I haven't given one for 4 weeks hence my concern.

I didn't give one 4 weeks ago as the GP ran out of sample tubs and the MW just said 'oh well never mind', and last week I had REALLY bad D&V and it was not ... possible lol

So I rang them just now and said, contractions for 3 days, getting stronger, urine v dark with an 'oily film' (sorry if TMI!) and a headache, what shall I do, she said take a paracetamol....

mears · 01/08/2009 15:11

Have you tried taking some paracetamol and a warm bath? It may get everything to ease up enough for you to have a sleep? Don't avoid doing that because it might stop things. If it all does stop when doing that, it definitely is not the start of labour. Don't walk around trying to encourage it. Try and ignore it if you can. UTI is a possibility. Make sure you drink plenyty and if you find you have backache, frequecy of going to the toilet, passing small amount of urine that stings then it is most likley UTI which you would need antibiotics for.

LuluMaman · 01/08/2009 15:14

i think you should try what mears says , dark urine might mean you have not had enough water

have the paracetomal, bath and a a big drink of water and you can and should call back if you don;t feel well and your urine stays dark

BlueSmarties · 01/08/2009 20:07

kidney infection? don't wait for them to sound concerned. If u are concerned then you need to do the chasing.

If you're not concerned then u need a good film to take your mind off it and plenty of calories to prepare for the marathon ahead.

MakkaPakkasWilly · 01/08/2009 21:23

been to hospital... sorry if disjointed, I am drugged out of my head and very tired...

yes am having contractions, some very painful, but baby not engaged and cervix not favourable

had blood tests and a mini scan

Am measuring 44 weeks, Dr is concerned I have too much fluid which might be slowing it down, or a prolapse

no uti, BP etc all ok

given me some serious drugs to help me rest, have to go back monday to check placement of cord and have growth scan as measuring 44 weeks not great when you are only 37

ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow

Hope you are in bed now. Don't panic about measuring large - measuring can be grossly inaccurate! Hope things are settling now.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 01/08/2009 21:33

Oh MPW, sorry to hear you're still in pain, and no baby iminent. And 44 weeks is certainly impressive! Hope you get some rest and that everything is OK.

oneopinionatedmother · 01/08/2009 21:44

have a good rest.

big hugs for poor you. [MPW]

(eugh, did i just hug Makka-pakkas Willy ? - Won't the stones be jealous?)

GentlyDoesIt · 01/08/2009 21:54

Aw that sounds tough. Hope the drugs allow you some rest over the weekend.

DVD box sets at the ready, yes?

LittleMissNorty · 01/08/2009 21:58

hope the drugs do the trick.....take it easy.

MakkaPakkasWilly · 01/08/2009 22:16

OP posts:
Tidey · 01/08/2009 22:18

LittleMissNorty · 01/08/2009 22:25

Oh good luck

MakkaPakkasWilly · 01/08/2009 22:33

it's me again

waiting for mum to arrive to look after DS so I can go to hospital

Sitting on 2 binliners and a towel... so much blood, so much water, I am half the size, no wonder I was measuring big

contractions still coming but actually eased off a bit

OP posts:
nigglewiggle · 01/08/2009 22:37

Good luck!

LittleMissNorty · 01/08/2009 22:39

Hope all goes well. They might leave you tonight but not for too long........will be thinking of you xx

mears · 01/08/2009 22:44

Best of luck. Liquor goes a long way! probably mixed with 'show' making it look bloody.

YanknCock · 01/08/2009 22:48

Glad something has finally happened for you! Am jealous now, I want to go early too!

MakkaPakkasWilly · 01/08/2009 22:49

no am actually just gushing blood. Not bright red blood, but a very dark red pink indeed.

MW not concerned but for a minute I thought I was going to die!

OP posts:
MakkaPakkasWilly · 01/08/2009 23:00

well yank, I did not eat pineapple, raspberry leaf tea, do acupuncture, go for long walks, bounce on any balls, eat curry, and thanks to SPD sex is a far and distant memory.
Or tweak any nipples.

Which blows all the theories out the water.

I did, however, expect to go 3 weeks overdue as DS1 did. How wrong was I?!

I feel SO much better now waters have gone. I have been feeling really faint and in pain all day, now I have fairly mild contractions and feel much better in between. And about half the size.

Still waiting for mum... I live in west london, she in essex, could be a while.
