I wore DH's big tshirt and some leggings in the ambulance for ds2, who was born at 0314am. Gave birth in his tshirt.

rubyslippers · 23/07/2009 13:30

i wore PJs to get to hospital

frankly i didn't care at that point

AddictedtoCrunchies · 23/07/2009 13:30

Depends how much pain you're in. If you can dress then dress (although I would guess it would only be trackies or something comfy). If you can't, go in your jimmers as no one (least of all you) will care.

Once you get in you'll be flashing everything to all and sundry anyway!!

Good luck.

holdingittogether · 23/07/2009 13:36

This happened to me twice. First time with ds2 I had enough time to have a bath before contractions got so bad so got dressed. Second time with ds3 I put fleece and tracky bottoms on over my nightie and off we went as I was in so much pain I just needed to get there before he popped out.

princessmel · 23/07/2009 13:37

I wore maternity trousers and a nighty I think. Can't remember!

LadyOfWaffle · 23/07/2009 13:37

I was induced , but I would definatly go in a nightie!

girlsyearapart · 23/07/2009 13:45

Tracksuit i think both times. Wore same vest top to labour in both times as a good luck charm! Waters broke (on mil's landing ) all over original outfit after putting dd1 to bed.
DH went home to fetch new clothes. Brought me WHITE trousers. What is wrong with men???

MrsBadger · 23/07/2009 14:05

I had a shower, washed my hair and got dressed

at 3am

to be fair I was in labour and not thinking quite straight

TheFallenMadonna · 23/07/2009 14:06

I got dressed too. Both times. God knows why...

PlumBumMum · 23/07/2009 14:12

I got dressed too, and it was a stupid thing to do as by the time I got there,
I was will under way and the midwife wanted to cut my trousers off because I was too busy breathing through contractions to take them off, dh finally pulled them off me afraid of me shouting at him after if the mw had cut them

PlumBumMum · 23/07/2009 14:12

well not will

MrsBadger · 23/07/2009 14:14

oh I don't know - I felt quite composed and in control arriving up at hospital fresh and clean in my linen shirt and combats, much more so than if I'd turned up in my pjs

that said the ward was roasting and I stripped as fast as possible

LadyOfWaffle · 23/07/2009 14:15

lol @ MrsBadger, I was the same 2nd time. Early labour lasted 24 hours and I went shopping, made sure I was showered and er... my frech manicure was done

MyCatIsABiggerBastardThanYours · 23/07/2009 14:17

I wore maternity jogging bottoms (v sexy!) and an old t-shirt but changed when I got there - I was having fairly long gaps between the contractions so had the time. I also wanted a waterbirth and the ancient huge vest top I wanted to wear wasn't really what I wanted to hobble into the hospital with.

MrsBadger · 23/07/2009 14:19

oh yes - due to coercion from MN, a mere 12h before I went into frank labour I was athwart the couch in a salon being waxed and polished...

LadyOfWaffle · 23/07/2009 14:26

I did a home french manicure, not the best thing to do during contractions You can see my nicely manicured thumb nail in my profile pic though, makes me smile everytime I see it

OrmIrian · 23/07/2009 14:35

I was in hospital from about 3pm the day before as my waters had broken 24hours earlier. They threatened to induce me the next morning . I got into my pyjamas and walked those corridors. Labour started properly about 11pm - DS#2 born just after 6am. Gave birth in an overstretched long t-shirt.

Frasersmum123 · 23/07/2009 14:39

I got up, had a shower and shaved my legs before having DS2, I went to the hospital in my clothes.

I always worry when they tell you to get into your nightie - do they mean take your knickers off too?

amy2507 · 23/07/2009 14:39

lol,

y do we do this???? i had a bath, washed my hair and even put a bit of slap on!!!

pic of me 6 hrs later after i delivered where not as pretty as when i left the house, thinking i would stay like that and my hair wudnt even move!! oh how wrong could i have been ay

amy2507 · 23/07/2009 14:44

lol @ Frasersmum123, a friend of mine was in the birthing pool with her nickers on!!!

she didnt quite know what was going on and what the standerd practice was with underwear. On or off?????

funniest thing is 3 hours down the line you cudnt care if you had knickers on or who is catchin a glimps at your lady bits, all are welcome as far as your concerned. (blush)

monkeyfacegrace · 23/07/2009 14:57

Well cant remember with my first, think it was trakkie bottoms over nightie, but with my second it was other halfs t-shirt, mascara down cheeks, greasy hair, and a towel wrapped round my waist from where my waters were flowing! When we pulled up outside emergency admin, they had to get me a wheelchair to take me to a room as I wasn't that decent!

Pollyanna · 23/07/2009 14:59

I got dressed each time, even though on 2 occasions I gave birth within 5 minutes of arriving at hospital. I wasn't thinking straight either.

GodzillasBumcheek · 23/07/2009 15:02

I got dressed - but i did have to make the trip in a taxi, so i wasn't about to go in someone elses car in a nighty.

CurryMaid · 23/07/2009 15:03

Jarma bottoms and a t shirt here. Actually we didn't leave for hospital til abotu 9.30AM but at that point I had been in labour all night and when DH suggested I get dressed you can imagine my response.

2madboys · 23/07/2009 15:26

For my night time/early hours arrival at hospital I wore day clothes as I hadn't gone to bed (went into labour early evening). For my day time birth I wore a maternity t-shirt and pyjama bottoms as I'd tried to have a nap after being sent home in the morning and had to go back in the afternoon whilst in full labour - gave birth less than an hour later!
