Am I in labour?!

Hello. I'm a first time mum-to-be, due a week on Wednesday.
This weekend had some BD with my darling partner and straight afterwards started to have a brown discharge with a small amount jelly'ish stuff. About 2 hrs later started to have contractions - I have been used to Braxton Hicks but these had a sort of period pain under my bump so thought I was in labour. Continued Saturday night every 30 mins or so but gradually during yesterday they became more irregular and now have stopped completely. Phoned hosp yesterday and (very nice) midwife said I was probably having a show and as long as it wasn't blood red all was well. BUT I'm still worried that the sex has hurt something. Why would I have contractions every 30 mins and then just stop?? I'm feeling really flat now cos I was so excited on Saturday. Am I being paranoid about the sex thing??

Thank you all! Really enjoyed this thread, took my mind off feeling crap for not being in labour. TBH never thought I'd want to do BD being PG let alone enjoy it! Guess I am storing it all up for when DS or DD arrives and we haven't got the time or energy for it. I like the idea of giving it another go to see if it starts things off again. (good advice eldest girl!)
I have a MW appt tomorrow afternoon, should I insist she do an internal examination?

eldestgirl · 16/05/2005 14:39

MWs aren't very keen on doing internals at this stage, particularly if you have had a show as they worry about infection. You can always ask though. Good luck!!

operababe · 16/05/2005 14:44

OK thanks Eldest Girl. I'll see what the MW says. Makes sense I guess re the infection. xx

how you feeling?

operababe · 17/05/2005 09:53

Was up most of the night as I was having contractions every 15 mins or so from midnight to about 5.30am - with period type pain under bump and in lower back. Went back to bed for a snooze and the next thing I know it's 7am. I really thought "this is it" but it's all slowed down again. Having the odd tightening but that's it. Feel really blue. Why has it all slowed AGAIN?!

Sympathies operababe. Have been experiencing similar over last few days/nights. All is quiet here now though

Distel · 17/05/2005 11:59

I was in a labour room at hospital with ds1 and was given pethadine as it hurt LOTS. Next thing I knew, I had been asleep for 3 hours and DH had gone home!!!!!!!!! Everything had stopped and had to be put on a drip with hormones to get it going again.

eldestgirl · 17/05/2005 12:14

Try a few squats the next time you get some contractions? With DS1 I went into hospital with contractions every 15 minutes, which stopped almost immediately when they put me on my back to put the belt monitor on. In the end I got so fed up with being stuck on my own in the pre-labour ward, I put on my headphones and started jigging around to our wedding disco music (picture that if you will ). Within an hour I was up on the bed in full labour, nearly fully dilated.
Seriously, otherwise try to rest. You need to conserve your energy as it sounds as if you will go into proper labour very soon.

almostanangel · 17/05/2005 12:15

oh hun... dont worry darling your body is getting ready,,just try to rest as much as you can...you will be fine

almostanangel · 17/05/2005 12:16

i have 3 dds so it cant be that bad ,,one hint try to walk about as much as you can during labour as laying down really doesnt help

almostanangel · 17/05/2005 12:17

and take a flask off ice to suck on

operababe · 17/05/2005 12:18

Sympathies to you too Tinker. It's frustrating isn't it, not really knowing when it's going to progress. I've been so relaxed during my pregnacy but this is making me really jumpy. Seeing MW today at 2 so hopefully she will put my mind at rest.

Get your dancing shoes on sweetie! IT WILL HAPPEN!

operababe · 17/05/2005 15:08

Just back from MW. All's well with jnr. She did do an internal exam and cervix has effaced and is 2cm dilated. So those contractions I thought were a waste of time have done something! She thinks I'll go into labour fairly soon. B**y Hell I'm not ready!!!! (Honestly there's no pleasing me sometimes!)

Operababe - Sounds good! Get walking up and down the stairs... and get DH back in the sac! I was 2-3 cm after Bd'ing at 39wks (had a small bleed so went to labour ward). I was sent home as no contractions then. MW told me to not have any more sex as I'd had a wee bleed.... however... since I never went into labour that night I was desperate!!! Dragged DH to bed.... 5 hrs later I was back in the labour ward 4cm dilated.

almostanangel · 17/05/2005 15:49

ooh hun thats great //make sure you put something on your bed tomight [towels] just in case! is your bag ready?

Rochwen · 17/05/2005 19:59

Good Luck, Operababe !
