Am I in labour?!

Hello. I'm a first time mum-to-be, due a week on Wednesday.
This weekend had some BD with my darling partner and straight afterwards started to have a brown discharge with a small amount jelly'ish stuff. About 2 hrs later started to have contractions - I have been used to Braxton Hicks but these had a sort of period pain under my bump so thought I was in labour. Continued Saturday night every 30 mins or so but gradually during yesterday they became more irregular and now have stopped completely. Phoned hosp yesterday and (very nice) midwife said I was probably having a show and as long as it wasn't blood red all was well. BUT I'm still worried that the sex has hurt something. Why would I have contractions every 30 mins and then just stop?? I'm feeling really flat now cos I was so excited on Saturday. Am I being paranoid about the sex thing??

sex can trigger labour, did BD with DH when I was 36 weeks with Ds, and when we finished I lost lots of blood and jellylike stuff, went into labour that night...

ooh how exiting! def sounds like a show ..you may have dislodged it your waters havent broke yet so you are fine hunny when is your next checkup?

almostanangel · 16/05/2005 13:36

what is bd?

sparklymieow · 16/05/2005 13:36

babydancing!!

sparklymieow · 16/05/2005 13:37

I think the reason I lost lots of blood was my waters went at the same time as the show and watered it down..... DH wasn't impressed!!!

Don't worry, it's a sign things are definitely going to happen very soon!

A friend of mine had the same experience, had light contractions, only to find it was a false alarm. Just over a week later she went into labour.

I think that the sex probably helped to move things along! They always tell you it's the best way to get things moving.

If you are really worried, call your midwife, or book an appointment with her and just get her to check what's going on in there. She'll put your mind at rest.

Good luck anyway! xxx

If you are overdue, MWs sometimes tell you to do a bit of BD to start things off. Sperm contains a little of the hormone that gets labour going (sorry, can't remember the name of it). It sounds as if you had a show, ie dislodged a little of the mucus sealing up the cervix. Don't worry. Sex won't hurt anything. Maybe try again and start serious labour this time?

almostanangel · 16/05/2005 13:43

loadsa d though so you never know may turn into bd
