Going BESERK waiting for Delivery Suite to let me come to hosp. and get induced today

Was told by the Consultant to go in at 8am. But my heart sank at the last appt. when the Registrar said to phone them before setting out, just to check. I knew I'd get put off and I have been. First it was "Ring again at 8" then it was "Oh I don't know why they told you that, we don't know any more now. Consultants won't even start Rounds in Special Care till 9. We'll ring you when there's news, just relax and have breakfast (!!!)" I have Gestational Diabetes - I'd had my bowl of glue porridge in preparation, and can't just pass the time eating cake.

Am insane with worry and desperate to just escape the house, as ILs are now here looking after DS and I just want to hide and be private.

Our first baby died as I was starting to go into labour. This is an excruciatingly nervous time. This baby has an issue (hence why we have to get Special Care's clearance to come in). They do know this, I just have to wait: it's the way it is and it's killing me.

Anyone bored enough to click on my thread and wait with me?

Hospital just rung - no chance of going in at all today, as SCBU is too full. Going out now to try to kill the rest of the day. This all starts again 8am tomorrow morning, though I get the impression chances are slim for tomorrow too.

Thanks all for the company.

Ah we will MrsGb.. Not the worst we've dealt with I think though perhaps the ost head-exploding (dh is a logistics co-oprdinator, he can prove his worth now pmsl )

As Xenia would have saoid... if we had decently enough high paid job (achieved through hard work nowt else obv ) you could pay private and I could pay a Nanny pmsl (though nanny 'd have to be brave! Wanted: nanny, 4 boys, 2 asd, one suspected ADHD, other one who knows......... )

Lizzylou · 20/04/2009 10:36

Oh MrsG, enjoy your day today.
Here's hoping for tomorrow.

Peachy · 20/04/2009 10:37

Oh no

MegBusset · 20/04/2009 10:39

What a colossal PITA. Hope you can find something nice to do today.

mrsgboring · 20/04/2009 10:48

I guess they don't HAVE to sort it until I get to 42 weeks I suppose (am 38 weeks today) but given past history, I think I will die if I pass my due date. They won't leave me too much longer, probably, given that DS's placenta was calcified at 38+2 (despite daily monitoring no-one knew this till he came out).

Ah sounds like your poor LO had similar to ds1- he was induced early with IUGR after a paed clocked he'dlost 1lb in utero due to placental failure, but every time my then MW sent me in for Pre-eclampsia minitoring I was sent hom after being told I was simply anxious () until I develkoped full eclmapsia, had MW no personally accompanied me to the central hospital I'd have probably been dichged again as they dismissed tales of me fitting (from CM, not me!) and I dread to think what would have happened (was 38 weeks), I think its probably related to his SN now (presents a bit atypically) but am just lucky to have him obviously.

Can you ask to book an emergency appt with Obst to demand they sort you out before term?

mrsgboring · 20/04/2009 10:58

This time round they've found gestational diabetes, which they're all very excited about . Baby is measuring big this time round. Don't know if DS had IUGR at all - if he did it was subtle, and I didn't have pre-eclampsia. They did cord dopplers twice a week from 36 weeks and daily from 37 and still didn't notice anything.

What happened to you sounds actionable, quite frankly.

If I'm still here on Friday, shall demand to go into Cons. clinic again: that will upset him

Mrsg - this is unacceptable! Is there any other hospital nearby that you would be comfortable going to? If so ring and ask them to try to book you there. Otherwise I think you should speak to the PALS at your hospital, stressing the very real nature of your concern and ask that they advocate with the labour ward for you so you can be sure that you are at the top of their list for tomorrow - or sooner if a bed comes free.

mrsgboring · 20/04/2009 11:11

No, our baby has a rare condition for which this hospital is the major local centre. The frustrating thing is, the baby's condition has improved so much that nobody expects it to need special care at all, but I guess they have to have room just in case. It's SCBU that's holding us up, I think, not Delivery Suite.

Thanks for the suggestions, though, NL.

not normally on birth threads due to not having any more, but saw this and wanted to say you must be absolutely stressed out.
Thinking of you x

MoshiMoshi · 20/04/2009 14:15

mgb - just wanted to say Good Luck and hope you manage to stay as calm and relaxed as possible while you wait to be induced. Hope to see you post a new message about your lovely new baby when you can!

mrsgboring · 20/04/2009 19:26

Thanks again for all the good wishes. A night watching videos beckons - fingers crossed for the morning.

Lizzylou · 21/04/2009 07:44

Hope that today is the day MrsGB.

If not, we're all here to distract you

losingtheplotthisweek · 21/04/2009 08:20

MrsGB - hope you make it today but if not, hope you have the same glorious weather that we have here x
If you've got friends to hand perhaps you could arrange to meet for a picnic?

Peachy · 21/04/2009 09:29

Yes good luck

Fingers crossed

(Is the best outcome that your waters go so they have to take you in? Or is that not positive?)

hedgiemum · 21/04/2009 09:35

mrsgb - We've "talked" before - you're in Oxon like me, right?

Well the good news is that the JR's SCBU is bigger than the local area needs; it is an intaking SCBU from other areas, so the chances that there will be a space for a local baby is pretty high and increases every day.

Hopefully no news from you today is good news, and you are there to be induced! But if not, keep your chin up, it won't be a long wait.

Other good news is that its a fantastic SCBU - which I'm sure you know already. So if your baby does need any IC or SC then you will be in one of the best places in the country to receive it.

(Lots of prayers and love for you and your baby.....)

mrsgboring · 21/04/2009 09:38

Hello all

Just heard - we're in at noon today. Hurrah.

Hedgiemum, thanks for the local knowledge - yep, am in Oxon.

Thanks again for all the good wishes.
