get the tablets as it says on the container. mine said two a day after 30 weeks though my mw said 35 weeks so conflicting. i hear the tea is vile too.

hollyandnoah · 04/09/2008 13:55

i got the tea bags, they were yummy i thought. I took them ( this sounds crazy now btw) took them the week before my due date because i wanted to make sure i saw The Big Fat Quiz of the Year, which was shown on my due date, so i thought if i drank the tea i'd have him before my date. But he came on my due date and i missed the quiz. booo

jennieflower · 04/09/2008 13:59

I've been drinking it since 35 weeks, I started on 2 cups a day and have worked up to 6 cups a day. I actually really like the taste but it does need a little bit of sugar or honey in it to sweeten it.

I'm 39+6 today so hopefully when things start it will make for a faster labour than last time!

mrsfossil · 04/09/2008 14:18

I drank loads of it, with abit of honey it was nice. I kept drinking it by the bucket and in the end was tempted to stick the t bag up my vag, {grin) i went 12 days over with a section because ds hadn't even engaged. So don't bank on it working.

lauraw78 · 04/09/2008 17:13

I drank loads before my last one arrived...and even though I went two weeks over due, it only took her 18 minutes to come out.....I have to say though, there is such a thing as labour that is over too quickly...believe me!

Wisknit · 05/09/2008 07:37

I drank from 16-17 weeks with ds2 and have been drinking it fairly often since I found out this pg (17 weeks now).
Ds I sporadically drank from 35 weeks.
Mix it with tea or a herbal tea cos it tastes foul.
It doesn't bring on labour btw. It is a uterine tonic. Tones the muscle so the contractions are more efficient.
Ds2 the contractions never got to more than 15 mins apartbefore 2nd stage and then I ttook 6 mins pushing. Think it may have done its job.

lauraloola · 05/09/2008 10:04

I took the tablets from 36 weeks. I had a 2 hour labour and was a day early.

I think it was the tablets that worked and short daily walks that I started doing 2 weeks before she was due. Me and dp used to go to our local park and walk round and talk - A great to keep fit (ish) and talk to your dp about the baby etc.

Honeymoonmummy · 28/09/2008 18:41

I've been told by the midwife to start at 36 weeks. I've got the tablets because I don't like herbal tea. The midwife told me it can bring on labour early due to something it encourages your body to produce - can't remember what it was now, well it was a week ago!!
But yes, it is also supposed to strengthen the uterus.

lauraloola · 28/09/2008 19:17

I took the tablets from about 36 weeks. I didnt take them properly as I usually forgot but dd was 1 day early and 2 hour labour.

Playdough · 29/09/2008 16:21

I started drinking the tea made from 1 teaspoon of organic crushed dried leaves (!) to a cup of hot water once a day from 32 weeks, and am now on 3 cups a day (at 36 weeks). (I get the 'tea' from Neal's Yard.) This is what I did with my first two pregnancies too (as far as I can rememember). Not sure whether it 'works' but I take it as much out of superstition as anything else Having said that, my first labour (back to back) was 12 hours and despite having an epidural I avoided forceps/ventouse, and my second labour was just under 2 hours so maybe it does help the uterine muscles. I generally quite like herbal tea but I have to say this stuff tastes really foul. And so I always have it with a large chocolate biscuit or two .

Amberc · 29/09/2008 20:09

It's meant to make your contractions more efficient as opposed to getting the baby to hurry along. I took it loads and ended up with a c section so did nowt for me!

Liff · 30/09/2008 09:30

thanks everyone - am being induced on Friday and if it helps that work faster then it'll be worth it - just wish it didn't taste so foul!!

For the taste I used to drink it with earl grey tea or Eng Breakfast. I can't this time as tea and coffee make me sick so I have ginger and lemon or camomile (or both) with it. Just something else with a very strong flavour.

AnnasBananas · 01/10/2008 20:56

Took the tablets with both pregnancies from 37 weeks, had two straigh-forward labours with no complications! The tea is minging, though!!!

northernjess · 02/10/2008 13:16

Drank tea with 2 out of 3 of my babies and my little boy was 10 days late (no tea!) and my 2 girlies were early and on time and very quick and easy labours so who knows might be some truth there?

appbloss · 02/10/2008 13:23

I also drank it throughout both my pregnancies, I didnt realise that you should only take it after 30 weeks! But, both births were on time and went really well without having any other pain relief apart from gas and air.

Wallerbies · 02/10/2008 16:14

I took the raspberry leaf tea with hunny and was two weeks late.

barbiehouse · 02/10/2008 16:28

i took capsules and had really strong braxton hicks after each one. ran out of them before my due date and ended up being induced though.

Drank gallons of Raspberry Leaf Tea - still went over 11 days and had to be induced. Definitely didn't work for me! All the best for Friday - a few people I know went in to be induced and before the procedure started they had gone into labour. Hopefully that will be the case with you if you haven't gone before that.

ushag · 02/10/2008 19:53

Drank it every day from 6(?) months, maybe earlier and was bang on when the scan date was. As for speeding up your labour....9lb 7oz 50cm long baby (with a large head!!!!!) in 4 hours from 1st contraction to first breath! So I think it worked for me even though the contractions were ridiculous!!

MsPontipine · 02/10/2008 19:58

I took the tablets - was half scared of what "more powerful contractions" could be like so took half the dose as a cowardly half measure

Ds labour 4.5 hours start to finish. Contractions very powerful!!

Hogiabach · 02/10/2008 20:24

Great stuff, worked a treat for my 2nd. Having had a c section first time round the raspberry leaf tea was great. Had a normal delivery 2 week early was very happy

SilverSixpence · 02/10/2008 21:20

i took the tea (2 or 3 cups a day from 37 weeks) but always put a raspberry fruit tea bag in with the raspberry leaf which made it quite pleasant to take, i also put a bit of honey in. I think it worked pretty well, contractions were v strong straight away and labour was 11 hours which wasn't bad for a first birth
