OK, so I have 2 boys, my mum told me a few things about baby girls, and I genuinly don't know if she is winding me up or not! So those who have had daughters ....

She said that baby girls have a mucus plug in their 'baby lady bits' that comes away after the birth and you have to clean it away over the first few days! Is this true??

She also said that girls can have a mini period when they are born!

Is that true?

they can get discharge or even have a bleed after birth, my dd did, and her breasts swelled up too. its just hormones.

my girls had a small amount of discharge, not really a plug, but just a bit of discharge really.

SOME baby girls have mini-periods after birth, but none of my three did. this is due to mums hormones etc etc.

misdee · 23/07/2008 13:44

ojh was the discharge a period? i was expecting blood lol.

OsmosisBanana · 23/07/2008 13:45

DD had micro boobs for a couple of days.

Oliveoil · 23/07/2008 13:46

I can't remember

cafebistro · 23/07/2008 13:46

Both these are true..though neither happened with my dd.

serenity · 23/07/2008 13:46

DD had neither of these iirc

DisenchantedPlusBump · 23/07/2008 13:46

It just me a bit, guess its cause Ive only ever had boys and they didn't do anything like that

Glad to know she wasn't just trying to freak me out!

Still can't believe its a girl!

One of my girls had this. Literally one or two drops of blood, barely noticable.

Do you know what you are expecting Disenchanted ?

belgo · 23/07/2008 13:47

congratulations disenchanted!

TillyScoutsmum · 23/07/2008 13:48

Ah see - I wish I had a knowledgable mum - I absolutely freaked out when I found a teeny bit of blood in newborn dd's nappy (PFB )

belgo · 23/07/2008 13:49

we were told this in an antenatal class.

fedup1981 · 23/07/2008 13:51

My boy had mini-boobs too.

DisenchantedPlusBump · 23/07/2008 13:56

Thanks, at least I will know it is OK if it does happen ... think I would have freaked too Tilly if I hadn't have known!

Thanks Belgo, am still in shock! Was sure it was a boy!

my boy had mini boobs and blood in his nappy!!!

saying that, at 8mnths, he still has mini boobs, and a beer belly to match!

CatIsSleepy · 23/07/2008 14:02

well if my dd had this I can't say I noticed
perhaps it got lost in a great sea of meconium

Yes, quite true -- they have a dose of your hormones swishing around inside them. Midwife/doctor will probably warn you about this when she arrives anyway. DD had the mucus but no blood.

Dropdeadfred · 23/07/2008 14:25

my dd1 had milk in her teeny 'breasts' for a few days and a mini period...

nooka · 23/07/2008 14:33

I can't remember either OliveOil!

TheOriginalXENA · 23/07/2008 14:35

Really. I don't remember this with either of my DD's!

Littlefish · 23/07/2008 14:36

DD had breast lumps until she was about 18 months old. Paediatrician told me that it can take up to 2 years for the hormones to leave the baby's body.

chipmonkey · 23/07/2008 15:33

fAb news Disenchanted!

PinkTulips · 23/07/2008 15:36

dd bled when she was about 36 hours old.... scared the living shit out of me when it happened.

didn't have mucus plug though i think.... might have gotton lost in the merconium though
