sorry, with dd1 got the gel put in at 0600 on wed and she was born lunchtime friday!!!!!

Monsoonrain · 30/04/2008 12:14

So it wasnt just me who's husband got sent home - when I was induced with 1st baby at 7pm, hubby sent home at 9pm (when visiting ended!). My water went at midnight and I kept asking midwife to ring hubby and let him know. She said "we'll ring him when delivery room becomes available" - at this point I was on G&A and thought "no way" - tried about 5 times to ring him myself from patientline, PMSL, numbers were all jumping around cue me rolling round laughing at my phone - much to disgust of 3 other ladies on my ward who were trying to sleep .

I did eventually manage to ring husband, he came to hospital within half an hour (maybe I was dramatic on phone, PMSL!!!). I heard something beeping (? a machine somewhere) and very loudly TOLD someone to "answer the door" - OH THE JOY of gas & air!!!!!

Good luck with your induction, I understand you are nervous, but just think, soon you will get to meet your baba x

i am actually inspired now after reading these im due to be induced at 36/37 weeks for medical reasons and im terrified,i had a 30 hour labour last time was the worst one out of the lot usually im like 6 hours from start to finish give or take an hour,
i guess i had a bad experience and there is hope

lumpsdumps · 01/05/2008 07:25

1st and only baby that was induced took 9 hours to appear, took one pessary and a drip to get him out. Born on a Wednesday sunny morning. Is now a grumpy teenager!

Other 3 kiddies all natural births, the 2nd was born in hospital, the 3rd and 4th were born at home.

Pheebe · 01/05/2008 07:59

Went into labour as soon as they broke my waters, and I mean as soon as, first contraction came within 30 seconds. DS2 was born 3 hours later

tens machine and 3 puffs of gas and air and he was out. used more gas n air for the hand full of stiches after!

hope all goes will for you

potatofactory · 01/05/2008 09:21

I saw my daughter the following morning (so a 24hr period in total). The pessary didn't work - doesn't for some, apparently.

toobusytothink · 01/05/2008 09:28

Started drip at 6:00 pm, started contractions at about 7:30 and he was born 10:20 pm. Very quick and easy and that was my first !! I actually quite enoyed it. Good luck

selfemployedness · 01/05/2008 09:51

erm, sorry you won't like my contribution, took me 5 days and then had an emergency c section, am now pregnant again and a bit scared. I don't think my body is a natural at giving birth good luck, all the other induction stories sounds great!!!

Dalrymps · 01/05/2008 09:54

Yep, pessary at 8am mild pains till 12 then more painfull and ds born at quarter to 5 in the evening

ajandjjmum · 01/05/2008 09:55

Me - within an hour and a half the second time.

First time within 16 hours, tummy ache after 8 hours, and full blown labour after 12 hours.

Wasn't bad either time!

Booboobedoo · 01/05/2008 10:24

Hopefully shoppingbagsundereyes is having/has had her baby by now, but fwiw I was holding DS (1st baby) thirteen hours after my second pessary (at 42 weeks).

Only needed G&A, and only found it really hard from transition onwards.

I feel I had a positive birth experience, even though I had really wanted a home birth.

4under4 · 01/05/2008 11:54

induced with my first at 12 days - nothing happened for 3 days so had c-section at 15 days and during the op they discovered she was breech.... doh!! If I hadn't been so knackered I'd have kicked up a stink.

DD2 came naturally 11 days late and now expecting twins in Sep so back to c-section!!

lilyloo · 01/05/2008 11:55

1st baby no
3rd baby yes

Liz79 · 01/05/2008 12:01

43 hours

3 prostin tablets, waters broken for me, 13 hours of syntocinon, a ventouse and episiotomy.

Was fine

Cicatrice · 01/05/2008 12:09

Not me. I was taken into hospital on Thursday afternoon . DS made his appearance 9.30pm Saturday night.

Gel Thursday night, Friday, Saturday. Finally dilated to 2cm Saturday, waters broken. Put on drip at 4pm, fully dilated at 8pm. Taken into theatre for emergency forceps.

It was a long time of nothing happening, then a mad dash.

katyjo · 01/05/2008 12:31

My hindwaters had gone, was already 3cm dilated so broke my waters started on drip. My ds was born after 4.5 hrs and he was my first.
Just realised you'll probably already have your little one, hope to hear from you soon.

furrycat · 01/05/2008 12:35

DS1 - about 11 hours after being induced. DS2 - 90 minutes....

sponkle · 01/05/2008 12:56

I went in on the Monday and was given prostin gel five times over the following week as none of them seem to have any effect at all, then delivered the following Wednesday 3 weeks late having had the maximum amount of syntocinin, episiotomy and forceps, and have the most fantastic bouncing baby to show for it. I think my situation is rare but go with an open mind, I was convinced I was going to deliver that day or next and was continually gutted for the next week as each attempt failed. They usually review you after three attempts, i was just unlucky as my baby was so happy where he was they decided to continue even though I was begging for a c section after 3 attempts. You will get there one way or another soon enough, try to focus on the fact that you will be holding your beautiful baby very soon and just try to bide your time in the meantime. Fingers crossed for you

princessglitter · 01/05/2008 12:57

I had three lots of gel over two days but when I finally went into labour it was 3 hours from first contraction to delivery. 1st baby, too.

Seansgirlthesequel · 01/05/2008 13:29

Hope all is well shopping!

Induced for both DCs:

DD was 40+1 started syntocinin at 9.30am DD born 7.10pm same day!

DS 36+4 started 9.45am tue finally delivered thu 5.39am after three pessaries, heavy bleeding and waters broken.

Lazycow · 01/05/2008 13:46

Ds induced (syntocin IV) at 1pm delivered around 9pm (8 hrs total) when I was at 42 weeks. My waters had already broken though (day before). Was told that policy was not to use a pessary when your waters have broken so I went straight to the drip.

The 8 hrs were pretty full on though as the contractions were quite strong and very often from the start.

It was fine though - don't worry

Minniethemoocher · 01/05/2008 14:46

Prostin gel at 10pm, labour started at 2am, DD born at 7am!

Emmyem · 01/05/2008 15:38

Didn't need gel - just broke my waters and it took 4 hours. Good Luck!

bababelle · 01/05/2008 16:39

Lazycow, do you know why your hospital had the policy not to use pessary after waters broken?
With DD my waters broke at 6 am one day, and as there was meconium in the fluid I was monitored all morning, then induced by pessary around 1 pm, syntocinon added 7 am next morning after slow progress and then finally em c-section at 11 am after baby became clearly distressed. But it doesn't seem that long looking back.
Good luck Shoppingbagsundereyes, hope all goes well!

LookattheLottie · 01/05/2008 18:38

Couldn't have the gel as I wasn't 'ripe' lol! What a term!

Instead I was taken away in the morning, was only 1cm and had my waters broken - OWWWW! From start to finish it took thirteen and a half hours. I didn't (or wasn't allowed to!) get out of bed once in that time, when I finally got up after having dd I near on collapsed as I couldn't walk pmsl!

It was good once I had the epidural, just slept from then until I needed to push.

Good luck
